My own theory was it was an AU that followed the “bad ending” of the series finale, but this has me reassessing that notion. Never considered the equestrian globe having a side we never saw. Would explain the absence of more zebras outside of the G4 comics.
There is precedence for “other trees of harmony” in one of the last arcs of the G4 comics. From what I read, there was at least a tree of harmony in the zebra lands. I never finished that series so I’m unsure if it was a recurring thing.
There were 6 in total. And not all of them have the same Elements are represent the same kind of Harmony. In fact, one of the sets are the villains of the Season 10 Comics.
I am glad to see looney back and stick around to continue doing youtube
This is so much cooler than what they got, I wish they went with this lol
Welp, I'm definitely coming up with theories of my own. I think I might end up sharing them... somewhere
After the movie, I thought a lot about this as well. However, I like the idea of Zepher Heights being what became of Canterlot, so I instead though of why the world would have changed so much. What force could change the world, even the land itself, so much so quickly. There's one obvious answer: Discord. But why... Well, grief. At some point, Discord would have lost Fluttershy. Basically, my idea was that in Discord's grief, he lost control of his magic and it went wild, drastically changing the lands and perhaps even starting the rift between the tribes. I actually started writing a story on that premise. Don't know if I'll ever get around to posting it at this point, but it was an idea I had.
Anyway, considering the trailer that just released, looks like they're going to start giving at least some explanation to what happened, especially with them going so far as to show an image of Twilight in the trailer.
Amazing video!
This has actually been on my mind since I watched the Make Your Mark special. I know we only have that special and the movie to go off of (I'm assuming the youtube series and comics will not be considered canon to do show, let me know if I'm wrong.), but so far I feel like they messed up by keeping it in the G4 world. As you said, we spent 10 years getting to know that world and most of the races within it and for them to just say that all those races but ponies disappeared without any explanation is such a let down for me.
Staying in Equestria was definitely a marketing scheme. G4 was probably their most popular generation, so they want to try and keep that going by having it stay in that world. I remember back when there was still rumors and "leaks" going around about G5, one of the ideas was that each pony race lived on separate worlds and the main cast would use portals to meet each other on a main hub world. I think something like that would have been more interesting to see. It may not have been as popular as G4, but I don't we see it be that popular again for a long while.
I'm interested to see if your theory is correct. So far, the movie was good, the comics are fun, but the Make Your Mark special has me a little concerned now. We will just have to wait for the show to see how it goes.
If the G5 comics are treated the same as the G4 comics, then yes, they are canon. As for the TH-cam series, it's not considered canon, but it doesn't mean that there are no canonical elements in it.
Why is it a let down just because the pilot movie and the Make Your Mark special didn't solve the mysteries of what happened in the past? I mean, the series proper hasn't even started yet, and we have and indefinite amount of Season to explore and solves these mysteries.
I don't know where you've heard that rumor from, but I certainly never heard of that. Then again, those rumors and leaks were likely not official considering how early they were released. I do know that the original idea for G5 was just going to be a reboot of G4 more or less.
The comics shed some light on the past and explain the crystals, they were not just found, they were made for s specific purpose by Twi and friends...etc.
Tell me you didn't watch the entire video...without telling me you didn't watch the entire video...
@@thelooneyturtle "Interesting route" very different than totally different route. Also, first comment not directed at you, but others later who read comments who may not be aware of the comics expanding the story directly, some fans consider them not cannon to the series, as they did with G4.
@@thelooneyturtle I did watch the whole video, that why i posted comment. clarify things for others who watched, since you were just super general and vague at the end about your "disappointment" of being wrong.
@@thelooneyturtle may have helped stop the incoming flood of early commenter of "nope you are wrong" if you had put your "this video was made before the more recent G5 content has come out" thing at the beginning of your vid. Or at least a text overlay stating that...just saying. Cause it not nice to just assume every commenter has not watched the full vid.
06:35 also in some comic books wich are called season 10 i tjink there are more trees of harmony
Good to see you again
I really don't like it when series that are supposed to be connected try handwaving continuity breaks. I hope the series will provide some explanations.
I watch series too and I find out what happened to equestria and other races
Actually, Equestria is a specific country, not just whereever ponies reside.
Why does there have to be a reason why the tribes split up? I mean, there is a reason (introduced in the comics, which also show where the crystals came from). But aside from that, why does there have to be anything beyond the passage of time? Also, according to the comics, Zephyr Hights isn't the same as Canterlot (then again, in the comics, the ruins of Canterlot are accessable from the ground). Also, Discord still exists.
*_Also, I know you added that edit at the end explaining about knowledge of the comics. But like you, I was too invested in my comment to just delete what I said._*
Why are there no Windigoes? Simple. The tribes aren't at war with each other. The Windigoes appear when there is active malice between the tribes. In G5, the worst things get is hatred towards caracatures of the other tribes.
Canonically, there actually are multiple Trees of Harmony (Tree of Harmonies?). But there was only one that grew to become the Treehouse of Harmony. They're only in the comics, but they do technically qualify as canon.
Hey loony can i join the rift? I'm wanting to be a youtuber myself but i don't know where to start
Those are some very interesting thoughts though as said in the end, the later works after the movie, especially the comics, have established that they are in Equestria itself. But I don't think that's a bad thing. The world has changed through history as even ours does and it leaves open plenty for our cast to discover as I hope they adventure outward to discover more of the lost past and make sure the magic of friendship continues.
Its like Legend of Korra or Batman Beyond or more accurately like league of Superheroes you are in the future and while the story should stand alone with out the old cast, you can't help but wonder where did they all go? How do you write off and forget countless characters and the generations after them? It would be like erasing George Washington , Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin from history, rewriting every book destroying every statue and art work dismissing there truth as fantasy and then creating a new history you force upon all children that tells you to hate the former ruling class because those people are monsters you should fear and then places the long oppressed on top as the master race and the keepers of the only truth then one day realizing everything you learned in school and all your life was wrong and these monsters were actually well known public figures who valued equality and died for morals and values and you have lived all your life in fear and hate of them and there kind and now you and you alone have the power to tell people to take a look its in a book and the only way to right history is to stop overly destructive protests organized by a fear mongering dictator with paranoid delusions of grandeur by letting him destroy a beloved land mark and almost killing his own mother and childhood friend all so you can say "The only way to be happy is to return to how things used to be 100s of years in the past when life was better and to make shore of this let me build a thing that gives us all power but will threaten us any time we stray off the moral path it wants us to be on.. so be nice or else. "
Man ponies are weird.
and DC comics are no better. like how does the world just forget about and wipe out all evidence of ever single super hero and villain when they all had such an impact on the 20th century? it would be like going 100s of years in to the future to find out that the world forgot Ronald Regan, Geroge Bush, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump and only remember Obama
Given that they had an interview with the movie's creators where they basically said they had no overall plan, it was a horrible choice to connect this to the G4 world. At this point the only way I can consume G5 content without becoming enraged at their decisions is to think of it as an alternate timeline/world from the actual G4 Equestria, with several key differences. If we are to accept that G5 follows directly from the events of G4, then we are also forced to accept that Princess Twilight became little more than an incompetent tyrant, and everything that was to be her legacy was completely dismantled and undone, which tends to make me rather furious at her treatment. If I could believe that there was a well thought out plan for the world, there would have at least been the potential that they could right the ship, but learning that no such plan ever existed when the decision was made to connect these generations together feels like such a betrayal of everything that G4 was, given the direction they have taken the world.
I wish that the supplementary G5 material that has come out since hadn't completely disproven your theories here, as that could have been an interesting direction to take.
Well this kind of video is very VERY late.
man I never cared about MLP but if I did I would be disappointed with the new series. It has a lot of those tropes I always just hate when I see it come into a series. Like you know replacing all the characters but endlessly referencing them. Making it set in "modern day where they stopped using magic because they rely on technology" (how many times have you seen that?), and just making blatant political allegory, which they are always going to butcher somehow.
The I.D.W. (Ideas & Desing Works) comics are NOT canon.
-> Their company never has had a single WRITTER who also made an episode of FiM or Equestria girls. Zero. Nada.
All of their "works" are just HASBRO_approved fanfics.
Never had (and likely never will) any "weight" on the lore for DHX [FiM & EQG], Boulder Media [EQG & ANG], Atomic Cartoons [Make Your Mark] or even the Malasian animators [Tell Your Tale].
Uhhhhhh... Didn't they reference the IDW comics stories several times in FiM?
@@VelvetIcematoro No.
Other writters for FiM referenced events in the MLP books of G.M.Berrow (the current Story Editor for the G5 "Make Your Mark" Netflix Series).
IDW once got (as a gift from HASBRO, not from DHX), an early draft of the S7 finale. Then they quickly wrote a "meta" story about a descendent of Stygian [as they knew in advance that the episode would not mention if he ever had foals or not before getting sealed on Limbo]; who in their story is conveniently messing retroactively with history (so even if there would be a future FiM episode of Stygian, any inconsistency would be "covered" by their own internal meddling).
There is no "official backstory" for Sunset Shimmer.
It simply was never written (what little Celestia says in the first Equestria Girls Movie is all there is).
What I.D.W. imagined (based on the transcript of the first movie) was not even taken into account for the EQG special "Forgotten Friendship".
-> The brief characterization of "anmesiac horse" Sunset is contradictory with what the "state of mind" she should have had by when she crossed the portal for the first time [if based on IDW].
{ Her REAL past (specifics) was unknown. Likely on porpouse to keep flexibility on future stories involving her human counterpart }.
It's not that they're not canon. It's that they are possible canon. There have been references to the comics, such as King Vorak name drop from the comics in the season 9 finale. Simply dismissing the comics as not canon really does them a disservice when they tell some very good stories. There are times when the comics are definitely not a part of the established lore when the show does something that would make that story impossible, but if the show doesn't directly contradict the comics, then they are possible canon as I believe was established many years prior.
@@DJSkywalker716 We either take the IDW´s "ideas" for G5 as things that did happened, or we do not.
There is no in_between.
-> Discord is not in G5. He did never met Sunny & likely never will.
Him mentioning the father of Tirek "by name" means nothing (it would be different if he referenced ANYTHING that "The King" said TO Tirek), that would be "something" relevant (he did not).
It simply made no sense in the context to porpously talk "in circles" about "Tirek´s father".
Giving him _another_ name just to spite in the face of IDW was unnecesary & would had made things confusing (like when the sisters went "mysterious ways" when talking about baby alicorns).
