Hello Hurraira, thank you so much for this big compilation of "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" performances by Morissette. 🥰
To give you some background info, Regine Velasquez, the "Asia's Songbird", is now 53. She is the original belter queen of the Philippines. Many of the singers in our country are looking up to her, and she has been the influence of many of our "belters" including Sheryn, Jona and Morissette. Sheryn Regis, dubbed as the "Crystal Voice of Asia", is now 43. She was the first runner-up in the TV talent show Star in a Million in 2003. Jonalyn Viray, referred to as the Philippines' "Soul Princess" is now 33. She was the first grand champion of Pinoy Pop Superstar in 2004. Morissette, the "Asia's Phoenix", is now 27. The producers of the TV drama series "The Broken Marriage Vow" included "Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw" (I Already Want to Give Up), a song written by Sheryn and Jonathan Manalo, and originaly sung by her, as part of its soundtrack and they chose Morissette to do the interpretation. Her version became so popular and trending, as you can see through the large number of views to all her performances of it, whether as solo or with duets. I think it's because of how she interpreted the song, the build-up and dynamics, her squeaks, her growls and grit, and her gorgeous belts. This song may well be one of the most difficult OPM songs as it demands a lot from the singer in terms of continuous belting as well as the portrayal of emotions. You are correct, it's a heart-wrenching song, talks about sadness and despair of being heart-broken, still hoping, and at the same time confusion, of being torn between clinging on and letting go. I am not a singer, but I bet it's exhausting to sing, and possibly feeling drained at the end. But not for the likes of Morissette, Regine, Jona and Sheryn. They're not our ordinary singers, after all. 🥰

32:30 The title sort of translates to "I want to let go" and it is about the pain of letting go of a relationship that isnt going well or isnt good for you anymore, perhaps toxic one. and then in the end it says "Pipiliin ko na ang sarili. Bibitaw na" which meant I will choose myself this time, I will let go now. ((Gusto=want ; bitaw/bibitaw=let go/will let go))

The songs Naririnig Mo Ba? (for her squeaks galore), Mahal Naman Kita, Will You Stay and Phoenix (the last two if I'm not mistaken are her original compositions) are highly recommended. All on the Wish Bus. Highly recommended as well are her unforgettable performances in the Asia Song Festival 2017. This time around, her smooth velvety voice was prominently displayed once you hear her rendition of Moon River/Usahay Mashup cover. On the other hand, in her renditions of the songs Fly Like a Bird and Power, her belting prowess is once again prominently showcased.

Just for the context of those performances in ASAP, performers only have very little time to rehearse, like a few hours before the actual show. So imagine how professional and versatile they are that they can pull off such amazing performances with maybe just 3-4 runs, then off they go for the live show...

If i remember right, Mori was sick during the Wish Bus performance.
Sheryn underwent a surgery before that really affects her voice. She really was a monster belter back in the days. Tho now she can still hit notes but with more effort compared before, plus aging also is a factor. Regine's crazy dynamic makes her a great storyteller her previous performances specially during her prime were all effortlessly breathtaking. (What Kind of Fool I Am, Sometime, Somewhere, A Piece of a Sky, Broadway Medley with Martin just to name a few)
I really love Jona especially back in her La Diva days. Her group was the best trio ever produced.

I saw not sure how recent these younger divas paid tribute to Regine, who were their idol and inspiration, sang her songs. Only saw a snippet and it is so good.
Regine has been in the Industry as least 40 years. Have won accolades worldwide and most younger Filipina singers look up to her and respect her. Regine is also extremely generous and invites younger artists to perform with her to get them the exposure.
Hurraira, please watch Regine’s Broadway medley with Martin Nievera, one of the Philippines’s Concert King. I guarantee, you will watch it over and over and over again! I’ve probably watched it at least 20 times bc I particularly love Broadway songs.

Watching and hearing her ,is like she is projecting the video of exactly what the lyrics are stating even when you can't understand them. I have to agree in the first video the mic audio wasn't great. I think we all know, Mori could over power most she sings with , but she will never do that, and gives way to the other's moment. You have to be careful with...the ASAP....ABS-CBN videos....as they are, vicious with copyright strikes . best cut transparency to 60%

But when Morissette performs or collaborates with other artists she knows how to take back for the benefit of the performance. She always gives her collab partner room to shine. Yes, a heartbreaking song. And definitely a storyteller for sure. And I think Morissette does have some form of theater background.
To add, in the song she wants to let go of the relationship because it is not a good anymore. She is questioning the relationship. But her heart is still hoping and holding onto the past. In the chorus she asks herself, who should she put first, herself or the relationship. But by the end, she lets go and chooses herself.

22:22 You are absolutely right, Hurraira. This song is indeed empowering. It’s an OST for the tv series “The Broken Marriage Vow” which is an adaptation of your “Dr Foster”. So, the song is very fitting to the heroine - a wife who has been cheated on, and is torn between staying & fighting for her marriage to work vs choosing herself & move on. After laying down her cards, that sudden change in the song’s tone at the last 2-4 lines, was basically the wife’s decision to choose herself and move on.

This song was a soundtrack in the filipino adaptation of a korean drama "World of the married" which is very popular during covid. The lyrics are very heart wrenching specially when you understand it in the filipino language. The song is about giving up on something that you have no control of. It is also about Unrequited love, betrayal, and being self less and being forgiving.
