Imo, I think the point of the video is that it distracts from the actual song. The song talks about water being lost, climate change, and a need for change. We don’t change because we’re distracted by other less important things like what celebrities are up to. Every cameo had a meaning but that’s not the point. What really matters is the lyrics.
And I think the point of the black background parts is those are the things that actually make Gambino stop and think for a little bit but he only glances over occasionally at other things.
Also, I think the man with the X reference was the newly elected governor of Florida. And I think X was an ice cream because he didn’t last long and went to waste.
