Hi Mike - I'm 56 with a 13 YO and have now all the gear to do it - I did camping in another life, but it will be great for us as a family now as I have the memories as you do :)
Found everything you bought + more from a 75 year old gentleman who wanted to do one last camp trip with his wife but never got around to it as his wife was no longer able to walk. All up $150 and he never used any of it, just stored for roughly 2 years. Best part of it was I ended up having about an hour long chat about his favourite camping memerioes.

So much work went into producing this video. Drone shots, multiple times setting up the camera for different angles. Thoughtful, well-framed shots. Beautiful scenery. Pride in showing parts of your great state. Well done! You're missed.
Loved this video heaps more than Ronny Dahls version Little tip I learned from when I was in the Army, go grab yourself a silk/cotton liner, I think Anaconda has them for about $15. Adds basically 0 bulk to your sleeping bag but takes the comfort and warmth to the next level
And, it keeps your sleeping bag clean for longer, especially if you are a bit sweaty/grimy with no washing facilities. Then after trip wash the liner only & just air out the sleeping bag.

Great work, again. Had the missus n kids laughing out loud. Dude you need to send a link to your channel, to the WA Tourist mob. You’re doing more to encourage both local Sandgropers and eastern states foreigners to visit WA and see the hidden gems, than pretty much anyone. Well done you. Keep it up! I love watching how other people do their camp cooking. 😋Wash everything well after handling raw chicken to prevent salmonella, though. Fortunately, you had a camp kitchen to clean up. Nice place! Otherwise, looks delicious! Loved the sand duning! Never saw thst before. Beautiful views on this trip. Thanks for the share.
Your channel makes me so happy. I'm an almost middle aged man about to ditch my sportscar and buy something a little more camp-friendly though I've had painfully little experience camping (just never had friends or family that were into it) and watching channels like yours has been so inspiring. You're also just the right amount of funny. Keep up the good work, you have a new sub from South Africa.
Thanks to Tent world for sponsoring the video, and Micheal for the memories of when I started camping, doing the caravan thing now, but sometimes wish it was still like this.
“I’m just going to suffer in the carivan campsite...” next scene “it’s got a nice view here, I just love it”. You’re showing us camping but teaching us good attitude!
I loved this video and have been camping for a very long time - I had to laugh about your air bed deflating / getting out of bed trick as I do this too.
Yep, started with a Holden Vectra, 5 person Jackeroo dome tent, single butane gas stove, borrowed 4wd mattresses, esky and really really old school camp chairs, the 2wk trip that started all the rest 😊. Love the editing on this one mate, forgot we were watching TH-cam and not a telly show👌
Tentworld is Awesome! This video was great. Very educational and entertaining. This has been one of the funnest videos out there. Thank you, for all your efforts and time making this video. Thanks also to Tentworld for their participation!
I have only just come across this video. I have often told people it doesn't take much to set up to go camping and you have proved it. I'd often lend my spare camping gear to people so they can get a feel for it. Tentworld is definitely the best place to go, they are always very good with their prices and I tend to spend way more time in the shop than I need to when I go to get something. This was a great video. Thankyou for doing it Michael, even though this is a year later.
I enjoyed this video immensely! You took me on an adventure in a really professional way, entertaining, informative, creative and full of how-to-enjoy-life examples. I'm a 65 year old camper who's had it all in her life, from sleeping on the floor on the ferry to England, via ancient VW Beetle and canvas tent with a hundred rusty poles in Italy, a nice but finally broke down Bus across Europe, to American Rent-a-Mobile Home monsters in the States. It's not important how and what your equipment is like, the main thing is to enjoy your road movie and life and nature. You show all this with that wide smile of yours and make us wish we were there... Nowadays I'm on the road with my minivan, in it a real matress, a dogtent for my two medium bitches and a folding toilet, not even kitchen gear, just an icebox. I'm happy with being on my way, eating on benches, beaches and mountains, glad to be walking about without pains. I wish you a happy life and thank you for your good vibes, lovely footage and perfect editing. With love XD
G'day Michael, I'm in Virginia and thoroughly enjoying your video! I have been gathering the gear needed for car camping. Not much was needed due to the fact I've been backpacking and camping since I was 10. I almost need a warehouse to store my gear. At 72 I decided it was time to give up the long treks or hikes especially up and down mountains. The legs and lungs are not so strong any longer. After your shopping spree in Tentworld (REI would be a close equivalent) it seems I have all of the necessities. I just have to figure out how to get back to Australia...what a beautiful country you live in! I've been to Melbourne and Coolangatta (my sister has a timeshare there) and absolutely love it on the Gold Coast. Michael, you should be on TV! You have a great smile and personality plus. Your skills as a photographer and speaker (love that Aussie accent!) are above reproach. Anyway, I'm a new sub and look forward to watching more of your videos.
Just watched this on my feed. SOOO good to see an Aussie doing outdoor vids. Absolutely loved your content and appreciate your happy and jovial attitude. I've subbed to get more "Seek Adventure" ! And, wished I'd had the chance to bounce! Cheers from Toowoomba Qld. Someday Oneday, I'll W.A. ... after lockdown.
Great drone shots and good editing of this video. Great choice of background music too. It really suits the video topic. Your videos just keeps getting better and better. Keep it up.
Well, that was unexpected. I came to youtube to watch a 5 min video on replacing the bladder for my sprinkler valve and stayed for an extra 43:54 sec watching your video on basic camping essentials even though I am an avid camper/outdoorsman. Great video, your enthusiasm, and positivity is amazing my friend! You have earned a new follower. Cheers from Salt Lake City, UT!

You need your own show mate, so many 4wd shows out there but none has your style and typical Aussie nature! Wish you luck on all the future has in store. I’ll definitely be watching.
I'd change a few items: - You don't need the sleeping bag. You brought your own pillow, so may as well just bring your bedding too. - Can even ditch the inflatable mattress if you a have a futon couch or similar, just roll and tie up the mattress and throw in the boot or back seat. - Buy a jerry can for water! The world has enough single use plastic in it. Even if you do use it a few times, most people don't. Best to get beginners in the habit of minimal waste. P.S. I also love Tentworld. They stock a nice range from the budget through to the quality gear. Plus they are less brand biased, so you get the best of everything.
My family went tenting for the first time last year. We shopped around and got everything (cooler, mess kit, double stove, tarps, rope, tent, 2 air mattress, 2 sleeping bags) for under $300. I always recommend checking out your local gear swap page too. Campers always seem to like to gift their old gear to new campers!
As a single female living in Sydney, this is exactly what I'm doing when we get out of ISO. Mind you l am spending more than $400.00. I have a reclining chair and a wanderer premium bed. Me and my dog will be packing up my old beat up carolla for a beach camping trip very soon!!
Your awesome! Great advice down to earth realistic information. Presented with efficiency and humor. Your a legend. Keep up the great work you do! Much appreciated...
Hi Michael, just found your channel and love it. Great content and brilliant presentation, you’re a natural. I’ve learned loads and feel inspired to get off the couch. Can I make a small plea though. The stove you picked uses disposable gas canisters. One of those let go while my wife was cooking. It was a spare sitting behind the stove just like the one in your video I think? The seam around the top failed in the heat, releasing the contents through the cooking flame and engulfing 5 people in a fire ball that had one guy air lifted to the burns unit in Perth. All survived but physically and mentally scared. The small print on the canisters it says to keep them below 50 degrees Celsius. It gets hotter than that in the boot of your car. It’s not for me to tell other people not to use them but I won’t miss the chance to warn people about the dangers.
MrProctitus..Bloody hell mate ! that would have been frightening. I've used those things for years and never had a problem. Just goes to show you. A few years ago, someone had four of them put together and put a large BBQ plate on them with them all lit, and naturally, it went up ! At one stage, a few years ago, you couldn't even buy one of those stoves for quite a while, but then they slowly seemed to re emerge.
Please don’t put spare canisters even empty ones behind or near an active flame. Single burners are designed to be used as a single unit so don’t put two stoves together to use under a large hot plate. Gas is flammable treat it with respect and we all will survive camping.
Just found your channel- what a beautiful country you have! I live in Florida and camp mostly year round including in this now horrible heat! However- the peace and quiet of nature- the simple sleeping in a tent- keeps me grateful. Thanks for sharing this video- enjoy your adventures!!!
I love Tentworld! I'm about to embark on my first camping trip in a few weeks and have been purchasing my camping gear from them. Great video! And good to have a checklist to make sure I haven't missed out on the essentials!
Thanks for making a video that points out camping is not the consumer sport it seems to be these days. Too much focus in most camping vids is about accessories and gadgetry. All you really need is the will to get out there and what you used in this vid.
Loved the video Michael. Tentworld is my go to shop here in Qld also. Off on my first 6 night camp alone this week and cant wait!!!! Keep up the great work.
This production rated MA, for Maximum Australia. Seriously, though, you have such a gentle, positive energy. You're like the Aussie answer to Steve Wallis. Great vibes, & great content. Thanks, mate. :-)
Thank you for beautiful footage. Stuck quarantining in what is now the leper colony known as Florida, USA. This chance to travel virtually has been uplifting. Glad I found your channel. G-day Mate!
So we've decided to go camping and set foot into Tentworld for the first time today. Awesome place, great prices....was doing some research on tents after we got home, when I came across your vid. Gotta say, was going to skip through it,but ended up watching the whole thing, it was so entertaining!! Laughed out loud at the river crossing :) How good was it?..... I took notes! Will be looking into that paddle board too ;) Thanks mate, keep it up, loved it.....now a subscriber :)
Haha I love the hammer! My dad has the exact same hammer that’s bent in the same way just like yours 😂 great video mate love watching your content 👌 Good work tent world I will definitely be paying them a visit to get some super pegs!
Great video! I did not think I would watch the whole 45 minutes, but I DID ! Very entertaining! And kudos on the amazing production, for sure it was not easy I bet!
really enjoyed the video as someone who's never been camping, but is thinking about it. Easy to follow tips. Incredible how you manage to smile and speak at the same time! And great Aussie costume hat, accent and shorts. Really sets the scene. Keep up the videos.
damn to me that’s glamping, all i take is a hootchie (glorified trap), ice box, camp oven, a cast iron fry pan to put on the fire, yoga mat , a sleeping bag, and a milk crate to carry stuff inn which doubles as a seat and i use the ice box as a table, simplicity is key for me when camping
@@edgarbalderas3593 Yes, I did!! I had only 1 day off so it was an afternoon visit, but refreshing just the same. Just getting out of town and into nature is a blessing.
How sad! So close to one of the world's most amazing natural wonders and you don't visit it at least once a year?....your don't even need to camp; you can do it as a day trip. Not being critical of you....just want you to see the opportunity you have, that so few of us have. See if you can spark an interest in geology, flora or fauna....the joy of Nature is free, yet it can give us so much in return if we just put in a little effort! It helps to clear confusion and free our soul. Try to stop and smell the Roses....ooops!...I mean, the Rocks! (Grand Canyon, get it?)
back in the good old days used to be able to camp in the dunes and ride up to Cervantes on ya bike through all the tracks and along the beach. That sea lion is probably the same one that scared the crap out of my mate as we were snorkelling to that island, im sure the people on the beach thought it was the 2nd coming of Christ, mate was just about running on water

Silk was the preferred option as certain bugs, mites etc don't like silk material... win - win.

Thanks for making this video. A lot of work and fun to watch. I’ve watched the whole 45 mins 😊 great work mate
That Tentworld in Midland is bloody awesome...! Cool video.. just goes to show you don't need to spend $$$$$ to
simply go camping
I’m so glad I found your channel. Your a very inspirational young man
This is one of the best videos you've done by far!
This production rated MA, for Maximum Australia.
Seriously, though, you have such a gentle, positive energy. You're like the Aussie answer to Steve Wallis. Great vibes, & great content. Thanks, mate. :-)
TentWorld is awesome! I wish we had one in Canada. Another nice vid, mate.
we had our first camping last night in Albany WA.
thanks for this video. 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Thank you, Michael. This video is exactly what I was looking for.
Protect this man at all costs. ❤️
Thanks a lot . Excellent and simple . 48yrs from kuwait . I shall also present your clips to my teenagers . As quality is marvelous
I know its a camping video, but my favorite bit is seeing your hat holder in the back of your 4x4. 👍 The rest of the vid is great too though.
You are awesome! Thank you for all the feedback. Your smile is too cute.
I’m going camping for my first time next week, super excited 😊
Great video mate, that was heaps of fun to watch! 🙌🏽 How good are small town bakeries!!! 😋
I never watch videos that are over like 12 minutes. But this was so informative and fun to watch. Great work!
Absolutely beautiful where you're at. I wish campgrounds like that were near me
Good stuff, mate!!!
Don't forget your pillow 😁
Carry a pillow case and fill it with debris from the forest floor if you want a pillow.
AngelusSolus Then you'll probably get bugs and stuff in there
put your clothes in the sleeping bag bag
@@Kinghassz Your going camping, your probably going to get bugs in your tent anyway.
Don’t forget your towel either
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. One of the best TH-cam videos I've watched in recent memory, & I watch a lot of them! Great job, buddy.
The chair at 2:20 is for gator country up the gulf/cape.
gator ? ohh you mean croc
really enjoyed the video as someone who's never been camping, but is thinking about it.
Man, what a vid. Everytime i was ready for an "ok guys, like, subscribe and hit the bell icon" you had something more amazing to watch.
I live a 2 hour drive to the Grand Canyon and not been there in 20 years, I'm going next week after watching this video.
Did you go?
@@edgarbalderas3593 Yes, I did!! I had only 1 day off so it was an afternoon visit, but refreshing just the same. Just getting out of town and into nature is a blessing.
@@eckankar7756 nice !! Can't wait to see it in-person!
From Arizona in US, absolutely loved the video. Awesome attitude in life and very informative video. Thanks for sharing
Great vid Mike .. I love Tentworld
I subscribed because I feel like I can learn a lot more then just some camping tips from this guy. I really admire the positive attitude in this video
back in the good old days used to be able to camp in the dunes and ride up to Cervantes on ya bike through all the tracks and along the beach. That sea lion is probably the same one that scared the crap out of my mate as we were snorkelling to that island, im sure the people on the beach thought it was the 2nd coming of Christ, mate was just about running on water
Beautifull Beautifull Video! Im soo stoked. Been prepping for my own camping trip. Much loves🤗💖
