- A man confronts a teenager about a crime.
REFLECTION is used with permission from David Anderson. Learn more at imdb.com/name/....
At the crack of dawn, a mysterious stranger sits in a cafe in Kent, England, keeping an eye on the hard-working waitress during her shift. But the stranger is really waiting for her teenage son to come in.
The waitress's son, Freddy, committed a crime during the night, and he is going to confront the boy about it -- to make different choices and change his ultimate fate.
Directed by David Anderson from a script written by Aaron Diebelius, this moody, intriguing short drama is a slow burn at first, its muted, atmospheric visuals establishing a sense of place and feeling, from the careworn setting to the weighed-down demeanor of the waitress. The pacing at first allows for patient observation, both for the audience and the stranger, who sits preoccupied but watchful, especially of the waitress.
When the teenage son enters the cafe, though, pieces of the narrative begin to fall into place, especially once it reveals how the stranger knows Freddy, though it does not elaborate too much on the criminal elements of Fred's decisions. Though some backstory is woven into the dialogue via the film's excellent, richly layered writing, the structure is essentially a series of conversations, first between the stranger and Freddy and then with Freddy's mother, revealing different sides of the stranger.
Actor Ariyon Bakare -- who audiences may recognize from such dramas as BBC/HBO's His Dark Materials and Amazon's Good Omens -- brings the stranger to life with a masterful, tensely coiled performance, capturing the hardened middle-aged man who has experienced and been shaped by regrets and wants better for Freddy, played by actor Denzel Baidoo with equal parts flinty bravado, blustering violence and surprising vulnerability. He's brought to heel by the stranger's sense of power and even menace, attempting to get the young Freddy to see the consequences of his actions by any means necessary.
But Bakare truly shines when he interacts with Freddy's mother, illuminating the most resonant emotional arc in REFLECTION -- someone who has come to appreciate the love, care and sacrifice of a mother. While elements of the short film could be easily expanded, especially concerning the younger present-day Freddy and the stranger's current circumstances, the stranger's conversation with the mother conveys a genuine tenderness, making it a poignant way to end this particular chapter of an intriguing larger story.
That hug. If only i could get one more hug from my son. I would give anything.
Young Freddie has some serious acting skills.
For non totally fluent english spoken person as me, few subtitles would be a big help. Congratulations for the acting and the scenario
Everyone's dream that could go back in time and fix something that ruined your life.
So true
I'm a straight up horror fan, always have been, its all I really care to watch....but these videos, which are totally out of my preferred genre to watch, are just so well written and acted, so thought provoking, that I find myself clicking on them regardless of the topic.
Great job on this vid and the channel itself.
Excellent theme but sadly the audio isn’t audible at times. Wish the producers would consider to enhance the audio and remaster it.
I thought it was just ME! Hard to hear and sometimes I couldn’t understand what they were saying because of the accents
I just couldn't follow and without captions. Great actors, you could feel their emotions, tho.
I had to give up at 6'27 as I can't understand anything 😢
@@marianneodell7637 I thought my earphones were playing up.
@homay, i slowed it down one notch and can clearly hear what they are saying. Try it
Should definitely be a movie.... I feel like he's just daydreaming
Very powerful short film. Simply great acting.
Good one! I wish I could travel back in time and run away from someone that almost ruined my life…
Almost, so that may have made you stronger.
From my understanding it looks like he was able to travel back in time to change his past, and it looks like maybe his mother did not survive that's the reason why you are so emotional the adult version of himself
Maybe she died while he was in prison
If he is able to come to the past?
he may wish to come before he has committed the crime 😮…
Obviously…
that it would be another movie.
The actors did an excellent job to make us get into the idea.
Bravo 👏 .
Life doesn’t allow us to have rehearsal…
Let’s live each moment at the time.
@@SharperTip possibly, very sad he threw his life away like that.
After overcoming the problem with the audio somewhat, my understanding of this astounding film is….., I am convinced that he is talking to “his” self, whom made all the wrong choices and now, he is in a position of mirroring the past from where he is now. I am aware that this is a single reading and interpretation among many others.
Bravo to the storyline and the actors.
I'm only four minutes in, and I'm wishing there were subtitles.
It does look good so far though!
When he said "I'm you" In that moment even I saw it. I don't know what it was, I'm not sure they even look alike but I believed him. Class acting!
A great short leaving so much to think about! Great acting. It really would make a great movie, even if it closed with this as the last scene. A good movie involving time loops/travel/overlaps can leave so much to wonder.
I think he was on the run and hiding , somehow he got to travel back to change that fate .
Wow, very good, i felt his pain when his younger self gave his mother a hug.
Excellent!
Emotions were real, passion heart felt!
Only if…
So many lives would change for the better.

@@MrKim-kv2vv ohh 😁😄,
Hello🙋🏼🤗, hope you are doing good,
Wish you an excellent and value Additioning life further ❤️✨✨
the accent and the whispering made it impossible to follow up the dialogue... ( and the subtitles unavailable didn't help...) but I felt the tension... and the meaning... (I still have many questions...)
Very well acted got me thinking, if I had a choice, what would I go back and change? Also why didn't he go back to stop the murder? Questions questions.
Maybe he knows, that the young man would not listen to the old man, before he is shocked enough, to let in any help. (He knows it, because he was at this point himself)
why didn't he go back to stop the murder? he explained @7:41 - "he deserved it." - whoever "he" was, was someone who abused him as a child. the goal was not to stop the murder but to make sure the boy is never held responsible for it.
@@andreaw2977 Wrong. He was saying HE deserved to be locked up because he knew he did it.
This is by far my favorite Omeleto film and you have so many greats. This should be a movie. Thank you for sharing this film.
So intense! The acting is incredible.
This is absolutely fantastic, well done everyone
PLEASE turn on closed captions!!
Absolutely brilliant!!
10/10!! It’s a couple ways you can think about what happened
Which 2 ways?
That was Great. What message about, what if. I wish I would have made better choices early in Life.
@daniellozano dont we all. I sure do but all i can do is be the best me here and now
@@jenniferflores3360 So true . I'm a better man . Because someone was there for me
That was good. Very happy to see a black cast finally. Goodness, we must value and honor our parents from a youth.
Got me right in the feels. ❤
Open ending....so cool.
A big heart pulls the whole drama together ❤
Yeah, if I could turn back time...
Absolutely briliant acting, the young man especially. Puts most celebrity actors to shame. Tom Cruise can't hold a candle to him.
I wish I understood the British accent better, I always have such a hard time figuring out what they are saying, and there are no closed captions for this film.
This needs to be CC for the hearing impaired.
first time back on this channel in YEARS crazy to see its still going.
Me Too. I Recently Started Back Watching From The Subscription Page instead of The Recommendations Page For The Reason of Seeing The Videos I've Been Missing. I Was Rather Happy To Stop and Watch This. 💯
why didn't he go back to stop the murder? he explained @7:41 - "he deserved it." - whoever "he" was, was someone who abused him as a child. the goal was not to stop the murder but to make sure the boy is never held responsible for it.
I was wondering why he committed the murder ,I guess that explains it of the person we abusive.
How do you mess up the audio this bad?
great piece of work nice story actor done a good job 👏🏾👏🏾
I had no problem with the audio.
Cool premise for a short. Well done.
Audio was very hit or miss
Thank you, Mr. Anderson, for your permission.
it was good but what it made for me not so good is that I didn't understood much the conversation between the guy and boy, like what are they meeting for? killing someone I got no clue
Young man had killed someone, old man wants to help him get rid of the body. Because he knows, that otherways it would be found and the young man goes to prison and his mother will die.
Adult male may be daydreaming this whole thing. He's going back in time to change the outcome of his crime and make amends to his mom.
Subtitles would have greatly helped me. I couldn’t understand much.
Looks good and I can only understand some of the words said, but I have bad hearing and sometimes can’t understand accents very well. Wish they would consistently have CC with all their shorts. 😅
Who even demands tea like that lol
👏
Very hard to understand for a non-English speaker. Subtitles needed.
Do u think he was able to go through with it?
The comment that comes up under the shows always ruins the ending.
What about the dead body that was a human as well with a future and a family?
Plz tell us the answer: and what impact does that have on the story. Vie
wing it from the perspective of the deceased and his fam wd give this a whole other perspective, I think. IMO, the adult male is wishing he could go back in time and give guidance to his teenaged self (?).
🙀🙀
A masculine black man. How refreshing.
Thank you.
