2014 - 2019 Silverado & Sierra: How to Check & Fill Transmission Fluid!

Welcome to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we will walk you through how to check the transmission fluid for GM's 6-Speed 6L80 and 6L90 transmissions on their Trucks and SUVs. These transmissions are in quite a few vehicles from General Motors, so we thought this could serve as a straightforward guide. The following vehicles are:
2014 - 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2014 - 2019 GMC Sierra 1500
2015 - 2020 Chevrolet Suburban
2015 - 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe
2015 - 2020 GMC Yukon
2015 - 2020 GMC Yukon XL
Make sure your vehicle is parked on a level surface when checking the fluid level. Also, the transmission fluid temperature must be between 160 - 200°F in order to get an accurate reading. There is a way to check while the fluid is cold, the temperature range for the cold side of the dipstick is 80 - 90°F. If your fluid level is low like ours was, make sure to add the correct transmission fluid which is Dexron VI. Add a half or a quarter quart at a time and check after each pour. Make sure you don't overfill the transmission as this could cause damage.
This video is NOT intended for GM's 8 or 10-speed transmissions as they don't have a dipstick!
