      @letsgrabcoffee, I'm Brazilian and I support you in your vacation planning in this most tropical and diverse country in the world. Try to imagine yourself and your friends or family in the North Region, penetrating into the heart of the Amazon Forest on those typical rafts from that region, or visiting some cities in the Northeast, visiting the most incredible places and enjoying the typical food and the coexistence of the Northeastern people , it is very interesting to visit the Center-West Region where the capital of Brazil is located, the Pantanal of Mato Grosso, you cannot miss visiting the Southeast, that's right, anyone visiting Brazil would let you know the traditions of Minas Gerais, the Christ the Redeemer in Rio or the neighborhood of freedom where the largest Japanese community outside Japan lives, finally, closing with gifts, you need to schedule visits to Florianópolis and by car go to Bubai Brasileira - Balneário Camboriú, in Santa, I need to go to Gramados, Canelas are cities in the south of Brazil typical of the European region where German and Austrian immigrants build houses, but in that region from June to August it snows a lot and the cold is very strong. Now I need to practice a little Portuguese and feel a little bit of what it is to be truly happy.

    I am glad you had a chance to go to Brazil to visit some cities and to see some of the culture. I hope you had a good time in Brazil.
    Like Dubai, Balneário Camboriú (BC) is a place for rich people, with little to offer to the ones that won't fit in that profile. The city grew out of control, focusing only on building expensive condos for the very rich, without developing infra structure enough to provide what's necessary to support a population of that size. In BC, rich and powerful people can build whatever they want, any place they want, any time they want.

    11:51 _Chimarrão_ is the name given in Portuguese to an infusion that in Spanish is called _mate_ (because is made with the crushed leaves of a tree called yerba mate).
    Yerba mate (ilex paraguariensis) grows naturally in the southwestern region of the Atlantic Rainforest (a jungle that originally stretched from parts of southern Brazil, northeastern Argentina and eastern Paraguay, to northeastern Brazil, always around the Atlantic coast; and today only 3% of its original territory remains).
    _Mate/chimarrão_ contains caffeine and is drunk in Argentina, the extreme south of Bolivia, southern Brazil, southern Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and, for several decades now, Lebanon and Syria. Today there are yerba mate plantations in northeastern Argentina, southern Brazil and eastern Paraguay; where they let the yerba mate grow to the size of a large bush and no more than that. Also, is the only region in the world where this is produced.
    Supposedly the Guaranis were the first tribe to prepare this infusion, using hollow gourds as a container where they placed the crushed leaves of yerba mate and hot water. It was through this people that Spanish and Portuguese learned about the infusion, but it seems that other ethnic groups in the region, such as the Kaingang (that were living in the area since much before Guaranis arrived from the southern part of the Amazonic jungle), already chewed the leaves of that tree before _mate_ was created as an infusion.
    The current container where the crushed leaves are placed is called the same as the infusion (chimarrão/mate), and after the herb is placed, hot water is served (just for a sip) and drunk through a metal straw. Every time that a small amount is drunk, the hot water (which is usually contained in a thermo) is served again and it is drunk again, and so it is repeated until there is no more water.

      @@TheYarbros If some day you want to know a little more about this infusion, there is a TH-cam channel called Circle of Drink that was created by an American guy that was introduced to _mate_ while living in Argentina, and over the years created a company that imports yerba mate into United States.
      On his channel, in addition to promoting his business, he explains a little about various things related to _mate_ to people who don't know about it. In fact, during the pandemic lockdown he was living in southern Brazil, working with local yerba mate companies. Right now I don't know where he is.

    I was born in Blumenau, them i moved to Itajai, after a few year to Camboriú and lastly to Florianópolis where i lived for 10 year before moving to the USA. My family is still living spread around the cities i mentioned before. But the city that I miss most is Camboriú. The whole state of Santa Catarina is amazing, and you guys should visit the Serra do Rio do Rastro.

    Intersting to see a couple of americans appreciating a place like Camburiu. Some extra info about the tea (chimarrao) you guys saw at the little shop (i was born in Brazil's southernmost state Rio Grande do Sul): It was first created by the indians who were the only habitants of southern Brazil, Uruguay and parts of Argentina, until the 16th century, especially a large tribe called Charruas - wild people who lived in the southern plains and did not accept to be subordinated to the portuguese and spanish colonizers. Those indians, along with some portuguese and spanish people detached from their society made up the ethnic group known as the Gauchos - a nomadic group that inhabitated Uruguay, southern Brazil and parts of Argentina. The gaucho culture is preserved until today, with their typical outfit, dances, etc. and including Chimarrao, which is basically a digestive tea. It does NOT contain caffeine or any other substance that affects your mood. One interesting fact is: the Charrua indians learned to ride horses after they stealed some from the european settlers, and became awesome horse riders. They used leather clothing, and they ended up closely resembling the indians in the U.S. midwest like the cherokees, chinooks, comanches, etc.

      It was created apparently by the Guaranis (that lived not only in the present-day countries that you named, but also in Bolivia and Paraguay), not Charruas (who were a completely different ethnic group), and _mate_ actually contains caffeine, although less than coffee.
      Also, gauchos are not an ethnic group but just some kind of "rural subculture" from Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. They were rural laborers (usually nomads) who specialized in livestock.

    • @dalerojo2.091
      @dalerojo2.091 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gatofielgatofiel5652 Yerba mate (mate herb) it's a tree endemic from norteastern Argentina, eastern Paraguay and part of southern Brazil, that's why that infusion (mate/chimarrão) also was originally endemic from this same region, and later expanded to the whole South Cone of South America, and recently (during 20th century) also to Lebanon and Syria...
      There is no relation among _mate_ and some other plant, especially from other parts of the world.
