Every time I would get hasty in my younger years my mother would slow me down and tell me " you build your house from the bottom up". I would ask her where she got that and she said would tell me it's in the Bible. Don't know if it is true or not but it helped me out in life.

Dave, I’m a theistic agnostic who has followed you for years. (And yes, I’m one of the “kiddos” that discovered you here on YT when I was 21; I’m now 24.) I loved what you said about how one’s moral code is inherently spiritual, no matter what set of faith beliefs (or lack thereof) it comes from. Your principles are applicable to everyone, not just Christians. Also, you have the right to express your beliefs through your work since this is still the United States!!! If the haters don’t like it, they don’t have to view your content!
Thanks to you, I have a plan for my future and have gotten rid of the victim, “little guy can’t get ahead” mentality you mentioned here. Thank you for everything you do, and those of us who seek wisdom will always appreciate our “boomer” Uncle Dave. 🙂

Your best video yet Dave! Preaching the truth without really even preaching at all. What a respectable man! I’m with you, Jesus is awesome. People think that being Christian means cramming the Bible in someone’s ears and never messing up. The church isn’t full of saints, it’s full of sinners at the doctor. Us Christians just want others to experience the joy we’ve found. And boy what a joyous ride it is! You do an awesome job of fitting Christ into your message and still getting people to stick around to hear it. Love what you do!

glad you are a exception to the rule, but know you are the exception, not the rule. those who dont follow these guidelines tend to drain the welfare system who are a burden on society.

Great advice Dave. Also I wanted to mention, and you've said it before, that taking money out of your retirement plan doesn't usually provide you with the level of pain necessary to change your lifestyle and spending habits for good. There was not any pain in earning/saving that money because it was such a small amount or matched over time. Most people go back in debt when taking short cuts. Take his advice, it's really simple and is stuff we all should have learned in high school if not taught by our parents

I recently graduated college, am about to get married and buy a house and have $25k in savings. It’s all hard work and living below your means. It’s all about driving an old car and cooking at home and not going to expensive vacations.

Based on listening to DR for a couple years I came up with what I think is a synthesis of the various stages of belief/personal development:
Stage 1: The world happens to you. You have no control on your life and everything happens to you. It is very easy for things to spiral out of control, as you don't know how much control you have.
Stage 2: You have a significant impact on the direction of your life and can take control of your future. You begin to learn that your choices have a significant impact on both the good and bad things that happen in your life. You learn that by making good choices you can make your life better.
Stage 3: You are part of a community and the choices you make have an impact on those around you. Making good choices means making choices that have maximum positive impact on yourself /and/ others, and also minimum negative impact on yourself /and/ others.
Stage 4: Help others. Giving and helping others to maximize their own greatness, will in-turn maximize your happiness/fulfillment.

Seems rather logical though. High school diplomas tend to be minimum standard for well paying jobs that aren’t in the trades. Kids are an extra burden time and money wise. Having two people share expenses especially those who are committed share the time and money burdens of having a child. Having a child later in life means building up savings.

    • @meerafinearts1914
      @meerafinearts1914 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Sure, as a researcher you shouldn't definitively state causation (responsible) but observational data can be a great tool. People are free to ponder the variables that played a role: maybe it was income, education, IQ etc. In this case I would argue Dave is displaying data, and it's the viewers responsibility to understand he has a certain world view and to use their critical thinking skills.
Though I'm glad you pointed it out, I thought the same.

Seems so easy to win after you have. Today I think it is actually easier in many ways.
Young people seem so stupid in behaviors but I am not sure I was that different at times.
I was successful in many ways but painfully I was also essentially financially broke at 44 in 2008 with poor credit history.
From 2008 to 2018 I became a millionaire at 55 by saving and investing in stocks and real estate.
    WHY
We can not always pinpoint all the reasons why it did not come sooner. Now I think I could have achieved the same success 15 years earlier. We do not always remember what we did not know and when our paradigms shifted. There is something about being ready to receive success when it presents itself and the hustle, risk taking, and obsession it takes to get there.

I don't think that anyone disputes that factors like teen pregnancy, failure to graduate high school and having children out of wedlock are strongly _corellated_ with poverty, they merely assert that the relationship is not _causitive._
To put it another way, if you're not together enough to use birth control and pass high school, the chance that you are nevertheless together enough to put together a budget and live within it is pretty slim. Poverty, unplanned pregnancy and a lack of basic education are symptoms of a common cause. Dave actually puts his finger on this common cause @3:45, "doing whatever the flip you wanna do".
