Another fascinating and entertaining report, Jules! Some crazy prices and certainly, as you say, 'some books to keep an eye out for'. In my case, the less said about that copy of Rage, the better as I sold mine very cheaply several years ago after I found a great condition copy of the NEL UK edition. However, I'm so pleased I picked up my very nice copy of Memoirs Of A Tattooist for £2 at a London book fair a few years ago, and also a similarly nice copy of The 30th Pan Book Of Horror Stories, which also set me back £2 from the basement of Charing Cross Road's Any Amount Of Books a couple of years back, so it's nice to know I've got a couple of collectible titles on the cheap! Some of the prices for the Bond books surprised me , and the From Russia With Love first Pan printing was a crazy price for a book that is not all that uncommon, although, as you say, it was in nice shape. However, I don't understand why someone would pay £160 for what you accurately describe as 'an absolutely hammered copy' of the Ace Double Junkie. It's almost certainly not being bought to be read as there are cheaper reprint editions to serve that purpose, and if one wants a collectible copy then one should go for the best quality copy possible. In which case, save up your pennies in a jar (If people still keep pennies in a jar, that is!) and buy one of the several better condition copies available on the internet - and there are many, as this book had a decent sized print run and a good number of them have survived through the years, and often in far better shaped than that thrashed copy. This is not a scarce or uncommon title, so only the better condition copies are likely to hold their value as collectors' items and, as I said, I don't get why anyone would shell out that kind of money for a battered copy of a relatively common vintage paperback title. Now, if it were the UK Digit edition in nice shape, you could probably add a zero onto that price, particularly as a lesser condition copy sold on eBay for a four figure sum several years ago!
Amazing you picked up a copy of Rage for £2, what a find. Also, the 30th Pan Horror, a great anthology series that. Totally agree with you on Junkie. I'd like a copy but not for that price! I collect Digit Books but have never come across or seen the UK edition in the flesh 🙂
Me too Martin, although I don't remember having many above number 40. In about 2000, I sold some old boardgames on eBay to Ian Livingston. He's a huge vintage games collector. I told him back then about the price of the final volumes, he said he was sitting on boxes of them!🙂
I’ve managed to gradually acquire a full set of (near mint) FF over the past year, rekindling my interest in gamebooks that started back in the 80s when I was a teen. Numbers 55-59 cost about as much as 1-54 combined!
Thanks.1 £ = 9.64 TT . Some of those prices blew my mind🤯 and the conditions of those book..Look.. as a reader i have over paid for some of my faves...But ...i am still shocked...Who or what determin some of thoses prices...supply and demand....??? Please forgive my lack of ken...Anyhow i will keep my eyes open ..mayhaps ...there are few ' hidden ' on some second hand book shelf...or even in my own ' collection 'Tell then . Keep collecting , sharing and posting.
I found a mint 1st edition Thunderball by Ian Fleming one time at my hospital library. The policy there is not to return the books when they have been taken out. If I'd waited I might have gotten more, but I sold it to a local book dealer for €170.
Incredible! Fantastic! Unexpected?...bound to happen?..Well yes, most of the the books listed are forty or more years old, they where not expected to last more than one or two readings they are rare because there simply aren't many left and there is nowhere to go to find them anymore except the internet. Ay the turn of the last century (21 years ago) books like this where still easy to find, charity shops, book shops, jumble sales, ect, all either gone now or changed beyond recognition. If you want to find these things just the logistical costs alone (petrol, time, car expenses, ect) could add a fiver each to the cost of any "haul". I think Jules went round locally and got a few titles, the result? A nice but small amount of books but what cost? Why not get a good bunch of exactly what you want from the comfort of your own home? Times change but, one thing remains the same, if it's popular and in very short supply expect to pay the price for your vice!! ;).
Absolutely Roger. I love the joy of hunting round secondhand shops but unless they are on your doorstep, the economics don't add up, unless, you get lucky and find a rarity. Sometimes, the thrill of the hunt can be just as exciting🙂
wow those prices are insane on some of those! This was a really cool vid, I enjoyed it very much but I always enjoy your videos. Your channel has become very addicting, sometimes fun, sometimes relaxing and ALWAYS interesting. Your knowledge and dedication is greatly appreciated, please keep it up for as long as you enjoy it 🖖💀👍 (happy Halloween).
Hey Jules! If you're looking for ideas for your retro game/emulation stuff, you could do one on the Flashpoint Infinite program. Since Flash went away, Flashpoint Infinite has been an effort by a lot of people to ensure that all these great online games that were once freely accessible aren't lost to time. You could do one of your tutorial videos on it.

Nice to see the British editions. I just started doing these videos on eBay prices a few weeks ago for vintage paperbacks.
Nice, amazing what some books are fetching.
Keep up the (very) good work !
Thanks Marc, much appreciated my friend👍🙂
I wasn't sure if I had seen this one and I had but decided to watch it again.
Books I'll probably never get but I enjoy seeing what folks are buying.
Cool? Fair enough my friend 🙂
Wish I kept all my FF....I chucked them in the 90s as they were very common and worthless back then.

Yes, these final volumes are tricky and expensive 🙂
This was very entertaining Jules. Please do more 👍
Thanks! Some astonishing prices! I'll do these potentially every couple of months or so🙂👍

Certainly a few shockers in there. I guess it's all about supply and demand. 🙂

Still a great profit, classic 1st edition that 👍

Oh what a lovely horde.
Absolutely!
I don't understand why the Fifth printing of "Dr. No" went for 74 pounds. Is it because the First printing goes for astronomical sums?
It is the edition with the 'Directors' flash along the bottom, just on two specific printings, which are in demand👍
Hey bro I need some help I always lost my Guilty Gear X on my Redream emulator any help it gets lost

Well, these are certainly pricey, but there's lots around cheap and in lower grade, as reading copies of course.🙂
