Don Knotts and the writers gave us one of TV's greatest personalities. TV Guide listed Barney Fife in their 50 best TV characters. He definitely earned those 5 Emmys. Firing at the roof was very dangerous. The mayor's office was upstairs. Having Thelma Lou marry someone else was a very bad decision. But it was consistent with her character. She never let Barney take her for granted. That salt and pepper suit sure got a lot of use. He wore it in various movies, including Return to Mayberry. Barney and Thelma Lou finally got married. Oh yeah, Andy rarely wore a tie on the show.
With the exception of three's company. Don knotts wore that same suit and with bow tie at least once in every show and movie I've ever seen him in. Those who know him know what suit I'm talking about. He was the best in every character. Even with no clothing. Mr Limpet. Wait a second that doesn't sound right. Oh well. Saw that in the '60s. Awesome movie.

This show and the dukes of hazzard had real proper southern charm and each had two of the funniest lawmen to hit the small screen

The best part of the jump rope scene was Otis saying "Slow it down and let me in, before I go and get some gin."
