- Here are my thoughts on Blizzard's hotfix. After spending time analyzing and testing it with fellow Sorcerers, I can confidently say that it’s that is a nerf
It's also incorrect to claim 99% of players won’t be affected. Not everyone has top-tier gear or endless hours to play. Casual players with less gear are likely to feel the impact as well.

Agree with the fact it's a nerf, because lag is still there, it was a BS excuse to nerf the Sorc.
Remember when Barbs were broken last season and somehow got buffed more in the first patch, but sorcs immediately get nerfed lol.

Because sorcs tend to cause major servers lag due to the nature of their skill, not as bad as ball lightning but it needed to be done.

@@NamNguyen-lr6skthe change needed to be done but not nerfed, just readjust where the power comes from to balance and get rid of lag, it was just a bad compensation buff, devs just don’t test their own numbers.
Seems every time Sorcs get power it is in a way that literally breaks the game... Just maybe they need to provide power in another way. Sure didn't have to worry about Barbs dropping servers one shotting everything. Sorc power seems to always rely on the same formula, eliminate your CDs and cast a billion of something.
I'm spewing. Was grinding like crazy for my pit pushing build... Got the last thing I needed (GA CR Shako) the day before the patch. Woke up ready to start pit pushing....all gear GOATED and the patch had already gone live. RIP.

Thank you 🙏 Finally the voice of reason. I could tell straight away by analyzing footage the efficiency was roughly cut in half. Which is an enormous nerf, it doesn't matter if you can still do mild content (101, Helltides etc.) easy.. Anyone can do that. On paper it's a massive nerf non the less. In terms of Server issues, I personally didn't experience anything but it got worse now lol. But I mean that's kinda subjective
I didn't mind the loss of damage, but it felt like I was proccing less spears and tougher to get the chain reaction moving. Had to switch to fist of fate to get high enough lucky hit to compensate.
how did switching to fists go? i feel like i have the same problem and ive been thinking of switching but i feel like i need the aspects im using more.
@@darrenwoods9990 Depends what the rest of your gear can supplement. I find storm swell is better in generic content, and you can spam frozen orb to compensate at the 20 stack range. Fist of fate gives higher stacks in horde tier 8 and pit, and crowd control helps a bit.

@@Quest88Thank you for saying this (fewer procs, chain reaction broken)!!! I have a non-GA Shako and Tal’Rasha, and wasted obscene amounts of mats/gold (a full day of farming T7) to get 3 x crit CDR on both pieces… and I STILL can’t get the proc chain reaction going. Double crit on my LS LHC, too…

Most streamers that I have seen said it is only a nerf If you intend to push to pit 150+ and is pretty meaningless for stuff like infernal hordes.
Bc for 99% of players this is not a nerf. It’s not even noticeable. If you’re trying to push tier 150+ it’s still only slight nerf.

I can confirm with 100% certainty that it is a very large nerf. Sure we are overkilling stuff by 10x in most content, so getting a 50% dmg nerf wont be noticable in most content. However i ran python script for screen scraping and OCR (script that extracts damage numbers from captured footage and transcribes it into a list, dividing the numbers by time spent->DPS). Comparing before and after patch im down roughly 45% dps in AOE situations. Many content creators are all about "feels" without actually testing, not talking about Mekuna ofc since he obviously noticed its a nerf.
they should know that many of us now are adult and casual player.. nerf will only make less people playing..
I originally gave up on this season but came back to play after seeing how interesting the mage was. But I didn’t expect that the game would be over as soon as I started..

I find it pointless to nerf anything in PvE type games.. (Yea I know there's pvp in the game but honestly who cares lol) they should never need anything in a game unless it is literally breaking the game as in bugs or something... Stuff that is just good or OP should just be left alone. And I'm a minion necro main since day 1 of the game releasing just always hated nerfs in games regardless of class.
Hey man, I really appreciated your video and if we are saying that for high pits you lose 50% damage for me it's a Nerf. Speeds in the pits or hordes cannot be considered because the endgame content is the pit. Once you have the complete gear you should push in the pits (I'm waiting for the rankings since the launch of the pits themselves). What I didn't understand is whether your setup and build continues to work at least above 150 or whether the maximum level has been reduced and by how much. If so, what are the plans to push beyond 157?

T8 is definitely harder now. Winterglass.. second time the nerf it. Just sad really. They just fucking fixed it.
After this hotfix, any world boss I attempt causes massive lag for me. Unplayable. I had no issues with WB before, yes I play lighting spear sorc. (There are 2-3 other sorcs around wb each time, now and before)
I see you have updated the pit push variant. why do you have chain lightning in the skill tree, without it being an enchantment?

Yeah, it's not as bad as people are making it out to be but the serve lag for me and 3 friends is not any better and feels worse today.
They counted up all the people who got suckered into buying the expansion and correlated them to people who played sorc, deemed it enough and went back to their evil ways.

Hi Mekuna ! How crit damage scales splintering damage? 1 to 1 , 10 to 1? And does splintering damage scales with Int? I'm now struggling choosing between 283 Int and 102 crit damage . Thx

@@MattyGamer9513 It's actually for two rings and glove. I'm not sure it worth it but I took Int instead of crit dmg since I have ga int. If Int does scale on splintering, I think INT>Crit dmg because we already have 2000+ crit dmg but only around 1500 INT

I did a T8 this morning and it was tough since I only had one revive left, but I managed to get through. I just got mysorc up to par last night so I don’t have a frame of reference on how strong it used to be.
I’ve also never done a 150 pit the highest being 125 so far. Haven’t tested to see what I can do. Plus I was already going to make a Druid anyway 😅
They should have buffed the FO base dmg as well.
I think it’s a server thing with lag. I have noticed that the lag this season is terrible. I don’t think it’s the sorc tbh …

I hate complaining about “it’s not fair but Barb” I think we can all agree that we are still with a bitter taste in our mouth of how long they took to adjust the Barb…
I think the lag is an internal issue not the sorc.
Tbf, most LS builds don't even consider the damage from FO or from the LS themselves. They just spec enough to use them and leave it at that.
I just ended to farm the gear to put your LS build together and didnt even notice there was some hotfix. Are you still playing same build?
I’ll never understand the point of the pits going to level 200. If there is any build that can actually push that high players and devs will say it’s unintentionally too strong and devs will nerf it. There is always one build for one class that seems to push the highest but meets it’s inevitable fate when people who play classes that just cannot compete will rightfully complain that there class is outmatched. I’m genuinely curious to see if devs will ever make the necessary changes to all classes so that they don’t have to rely on bugged builds or spamming so many skills the that the game lags and just buff all classes damage so that when an actual overpowered build based off bugs gets nerfed nobody will complain because it’s actually not intended.
On beta ppl where pushing 200, so it got buffed. Thats the whole point of the game, to push limtis of gear and what ppl can cook with their class.

It's dumb when they are stingy with "compensation" 50-80% lol and still dps is lower by 50% in high content!!! It's a nerf going forward in the future, with future content.
The change fixed the massive lag in worldbosses atleast. It used to frequently lag out everyone as soon as 2 sorcs started to cast.

Its only a nerf if you have the best of all the gear which most dont have.
I'm currently running a hybrid Orb/Spear build, just hit 100 and got glyphs to 15 so I'm not too geared yet and don't have Mythics. Anyway I was looking at your Spear build and then went to check out your Orb build to compare with what I'm doing and I noticed some errors. First off on the Frozen Orb No Uber version you do not have any armor listed on gear to account for getting to the 9230 cap. Second, on the Uber version it is very confusing because when you look at the gear for gloves it says Fists of Fate and Esus Boots but then for both of them it shows stats for Legendary items along with tempers. Just thought I'd let you know.
I'm currently running using Esus, Tibaults, Tal Rashas, and Winterglass (it's a GA Enchant Master +6 BUT only 0.1 CD, I have a 0.2 CD but it's 4 ranks). Then I'm using Frozen Orbit, Splintering, Stormswell, and Accelerating since AS is only like +17%. I have a couple Spear LH tempers and a Spear CD temper along with the normal Orb double cast and Crit damage everywhere. Also using Snowveiled and Orange whatever for ULT CD which nearly cuts it in half. I haven't been able to get much CD im only at 15% so I was thinking about changing things up and adding Spark and some other skill to create crackling energy along with Overwhelming Currents so I can have higher uptime of UC/Spear/Teleport. What do you think? I'm using same skills that are in your Orb build.
@@tasandmnm69 you get armor cap with Shako easily, the non unique version has armor Roll on helm and tou need to use skulls on jewelry.

I wouldnt recommend hybrid build, usually maximize one is better. Id recommend you to fully switch to a Lightning build if you wanna do that
@@Mekuna7 Do you think the Spark/Spear build is better than the Frozen Orb/Spear build? I am a long way from being able to pilot a real Spear only build. And I didn't see the armor roll on the helmet on the no Uber version, no big deal for me I understand what to do just thought it may be confusing for all the "only follow guides and follow them to the letter" people.

I'm an arpg player who has enjoyed POE for 5 years. I've enjoyed POE for so long that I've decided to enjoy Diablo 4 now and I've started playing this game since season 3. But what I'm feeling while playing this game is how incompetent D4 devs are. If Season 5 Sorcerer was powerful enough to destroy this game, I can understand the nerf of devs during the season, but I don't think Sorcerer was OP to that level. I accept that Sorcerer LS build is one of the strongest this season, but I don't think it's the only OP build that other builds in other classes can't compete with Sorcerer. And considering how trashy Sorcerer has been in this game, I don't understand the choice of this devs. It's a very silly choice for Devs to nerf certain builds or skills in this way during the season. These decisions make players want to quit the game immediately.
For players challenging Tier 150+ or higher, this Sorcerer nerf is by no means a small nerf. There are so many stupid people who don't know that it's more nerf than they think. No one in either class should have this nerf during the season. Whether it's small or big, the numbers don't matter. If you're a player trying Tier 150+ or higher, it's only natural to be extremely sensitive to this nerf of whatever your class is. However, looking at the D4 community or TH-cam comments makes me sad. Don't mock players who enjoy Sorcerer. Just think that a class you've spent a lot of time farming in any season could suddenly be nerfed like this. And how would you feel if it was a class you enjoyed that season? I don't want to be rude, but to be honest, this game seems to have as many disgusting streamers as the developers. They act like they're even a Blizzard employee and just try to defend this game somehow 😂

A normal armor works fine. Ramient works well if you don't mind being squishy, it's a part of some variations. Tyrael's isn't a critical part of the build, it just makes you tankier, which is arguably unneeded in t8 hordes.
Is this build not viable anymore? I'm pretty much there now and doing well but can only do about lvl 150 monsters, and only certain 200 bosses.

In the hotfix it is written : Damage increased from 25-50% to 50-80%. But in the game the aspect is: Critical Hits with Lightning Spear cause lightning to arc from it dealing 4853 damage to its target and up to 5 other enemies. There is no 25-30% dmg so how to increase it to 50-80 ?
The tooltip will be updated with next patch. They had a note mentioning that in the hot fix patch note as well.

I could feel the nerf farming 120, but boss dmg did seem about the same if not slightly more. Boss with no add spawns that is.

Guys, sorry, I would like to understand why you put the skill points for "charged bolts" without having it equipped?
Unstable currents can cast it and if you have enough conjurations proccing your unstable currents should be up 90-100% of the time. Then charged bolts is specced to give you DR so its really just there as an additional source of damage mitigation.

Hello Mekuna i have sorc with %63 cdr and when i enter infernalhordes after some waves my cdr is going to %75, i dont know what its causing it, , have only GA cdr shaco and GA cdr talrasha ring thnx.

The nerf is significant on larger on larger bosses and world boss. Huge difference. I have lost around 30% single target dps and about 70% dps loss on aoe.

For the Shockuna Lightning Spear what is more important to have 1) Harlequin Crest or 2) Tyrael's Might?

Make a shako if you can't get either to drop from bosses. I made a huge mistake doing it the other way around. I made Tyraels but I couldn't use it. Without the shako, it's hard to get enough armor to survive. 6k armor with Tyreal's is very squishy. I just got my shako and now I can wear both. Also CD is everything so the shako is the only choice. Many variants of the build don't use Tyraels but Shako is in every one.

From my experience, its not so much the lack of damage that's the problem cuz its still insane, its the lack of cooldowns due to nerf of the thing that caused it, so where you used to be able to constantly have ice and flame shield, there's pockets of time you don't anymore, and that's when i get 1 shot...
Can you make a video explaining the attack speed breakpoints? What to prioritize for LS after the patches?
@@KarthikUrs its the same after the patch I believe. Maxroll has an article about breakpoint but maybe I can make a general video and and try to explain it in the easiest way possible

Leveling takes around 5 hours total. If you can't spend 5 hours in 10 days, why do you actually care about balance? :) With this rate you probably will end up having masterworks done by season 11
@@dreamx986 I play around 1 hour a day after I get home from work. I don’t look up guides or follow metas for leveling so I am likely not in the best spots.
Just pointing out that not everyone has reached 100 and they are making changes (after running a pre patch) not hating, just pointing it out.

Is the CD of Lightning Spear 6 seconds? Because mine is at 8 and that's about how many I get out. 20 - 25.
What's the Winterglass CD at? If it's less than .5, it's just not gonna work in your favor.
The secondary on your Winterglass at 80% or is it lower? Because that's a bigger deal than you'd assume.

@Francis-of8cw I don't use staff. I use 2 1h and am geared to the teeth. Have 3x mw in almost everything correctly. I use fist of fate in hands not legend that's why. I have a god rolled fof and use it for the crit % and 300% aspect. I'll hit for 100m randomly.
I can barely get 55 conjurationa before, now i can barely keep ip 40+

@@Joseph-vn2zj You need insane amounts of CDR, attack speed and a high roll, preferably GA on the frozen orb CD reduction you get from Winter glass. I don't have the insane gear Mekuna has, but I can clear tier 8 really fast and do Pit 120 quite easily.

I was able to do tier 8 Infernal hordes with no issue. Now I have issues with tier 7. Absolutely garbage now. I am done with this game, spent all this time perfecting my gear all this time waisted.

All players are certainly affected. Especially low geared players. Who just spent 9 days getting half the build then it gets patched. That's enough to make low geared players just quit.

As someone with a lower tier winterglass and no mythics, it was a buff to me. Wasn’t able to do Tormented solo before, now I can carry two others in that fight.
The monsters still taking awhile to spawn during t8 waves once you’re LS kills them all. Looks like more nerfs incoming 😢

It is a nerf and your analysis is spot on except one part that I do not understand: you say people with unoptimized gear will notice the DPS drop. I don't think so, the nerf is noticeable if you were able to get to 50-60 conjuration stacks. If people do not have a good Winterglass and/or have low CDR (or no LS temper rolls) it won't matter all that much because more of the damage output was already on the aspect and not on Conjuration Mastery. The closer you get to having Lightning Spear with no cooldown the more you'll notice the nerf because the damage profile you are outputting starts getting overrun by Conjuration Mastery and not just the Splintering Energy aspect.
If they want to preserve the damage ceiling of the build they should have buffed conjuration mastery as well, but it's probably not going to happen since it's not a Barb build
I can’t believe someone upvoted such a stupid comment. That isn’t how it works at all.. I’ll make this simple for all the dumb people like you out there.. here is a boss with 10 health.. you hit for 20 damage you 1 shot the boss and you have really good gear.. a 50% nerf happens and now you hit for 15 damage.. you still 1 shot the boss.. you can’t tell the difference because a 1 shot is still a 1 shot.. here is a different player who hit that boss for 8 damage.. that’s pretty good but now a 50% nerf happens to him and he hits for 4 damage.. now he’s feeling the full brunt of the nerf and you aren’t.. because he doesn’t have the gear yet.
Anyone getting one shot by desecrator?? I play in HC and don't wanna push hordes if imma get one shot clapped by ground damage
Desecrator is not ground damage tho. It's a melee attack that spawns 3 fireballs that are very fast and fairly avoidable if you know what you're looking for. Play a YT video of anyone facing a desecrator in slow motion to get an idea of how the attack works. Once you've got that when you see the animation of the attack starting just dodge diagonally or sideways. If you're playing a sorc you can face tank it with flame shield (it's one of the few places to use it in Infernal Hordes) or Ice Armor (which might not be enough if you get hit by both the melee attack and the fireballs, depending on your stats)

If blizzard continues this rubbish of messing with my builds I will leave and not support them. Poe2 looks quite good as well.
I wouldn’t say balancing is good it’s just each class has a good build. 70% of builds are still shit. Barb is pretty boring now. Druid needs help besides what 1 build?

I did T8 yesterday with 2 Leechers and still had no Problems at all, this build is still powerful
but barb dealing 500bi damage on basic attack is good by blizzard
