Wonderful memories! I moved with my family to Billericay in 1968, when I was about 7, so a lot of these sights are so very recognisable. I used to frequent Essex Playthings, staring at the wall of plastic model kits, wishing i got more pocket money! 😮 I loved going to Lake Meadows, first with my family, then with friends, going on the boating lake - I felt so grown up when my father let me go from a paddle boat on the small lake, to a rowing boat on the main lake! 😃

Great film, so nostalgic for me to watch. I was born in St. Andrews Hospital Feb 62 and used to spend loads of time in Lake Meadows as a kid.

Cor bly! Billericay 1963. I lived in Mountnessing Road, I was 18. I left the town that year. From the cine footage you’d never realise the Swinging 60s had started in the summer of 1963: the Beatles broke through bigtime, the newspapers couldn’t get enough of Christine Keeler, and the mini skirt was 3 years away. 👋👋😎😎

Mackenzie, it's taken me 70 years to get here but getting here has made it all well worth while.
A lovely reminder of the life I had forgotten. Thank you.❤️👍

The early shot of the building which houses the Carter museum also shows my late father (Carle G Payne) opticians practice which he had opened originally in half of the Lloyd's Bank building opposite. Thank you for the memories this brought back.

Mackenzie Have you any footage of The Burstead Plough Pub that used to be at South Green ? My Great-Grandad used to drink there in the 60's and 70's and was known as '' Cider Bill'' - His surname was Sowden and he lived at Crays View

The Cater Museum is now open. Check online for details, I made a small video of its open day.
In 1969, I was born in the old hospital here. By 1974, births were directed to Basildon Hospital just as they are today.
So much has changed in Billericay.
When young around 4 in pre-school in Billericay FC, my first school quilters, infants where the school is today.
Junior School Great Burstead School where the Fold stands, outdoor toilets & the Cane, Headmaster wore a mitre board hat & gown & at assembly told us off his adventures of Egypt, Fantastic!!
Corporal punishment was outlawed when I crossed the road to Billericay Senior School.
I remember Billericay Cricket Club & Queens Park being built, I remember Billericay Police patrolling on a Saturday night, any disturbances you were arrested & didn't the night in its cells, the Court was operational.
Not so long ago, the White Hart with its long bar was open, in my day. All the pubs were pubs, and a pub crawl was exactly that.
Where the Blue Boar stands their was a frozen food shop, where Waitrose stood a park out back a TV electrical shop out front, Iceland was a Somerfields supermarket, Cafe opposite Police station was a greengrocer & do on and on.
Lots have changed & many new folk with ideas have moved in, Soapbox & Christmas Market, talk of Lidl coming to a new development off London Rd
