How are you finding it? I may have found a vacancy near me and I'm more naturally a night person but I've just maybe landed another job working earlier shifts at another place with a low amount of hours. It seems they may be willing to pay nearly double for night hours
@@Stallzyx almost 4 months in and going well so far, glad I made the change as like you said the money is good for nights. Others have said adjusting to the sleep pattern is the hardest part but I’ve found it fine, I just stick to it on my nights off so I’m not out of sync. Apart from that it’s quite solitary which suits me, working with 1 or 2 others but we’re usually in different parts of the store doing our own thing. Best part is not having to deal with customers!
Ii work as a cashier and the only thing I have to re-stoxk is the cigarettes and nicotine puches. Those are probably the worstto unpackage since the puches come in this disgustingly thick plastic that not even a knife will cut through while the cigs are just straight up annoying and require precision to not cut into the product itself.

I worked at Seaford in South Australia, it is the 3rd busiest store in the state, we had like 45-60 pallets a night, let alone with a skeleton crew of 5-6 people, it was a joke They made us work for an hour without punching in the clock to record hours, so we didn’t get paid the right amounts, and talked down to like a toddler for questioning The manager and team members there were brain dead, I would trust a paraplegic more then them Did that for a year, said, see ya
As someone that works nights at a large Supermarket chain in the UK, almost exclusively across all chilled product aisles including Frozen; I can honestly say it's the most repetitive and robotic job ever but I like it that way. Between 5 of us, we do 20 cages, meat, fresh produce, frozen, milk, cream cakes and then face all our aisles up, all before 7 am and there's 8 day staff and they can't even manage to detrash the shelves or do our overs/backstock cages during the day.
Working night shift especially living in Chicago during winter sucks. One perk about nights is that it’s very quiet. Most people are done shopping early during winter time. In the summer it’s a different story lol.
How does my body recognize and remember exactly how this feels. Like muscle memory for working in retail for years. Every move and way of doing things is so familiar. Especially at ALDI where the food is kept in the boxes its delivered in.

I started to see nightmare everyday and waking up at 3 a.m in my day off. Once i was sleeping while pushing the cart and crashed into a shelf. Then I realized that I was simply being used as a consumable. And I found out that my friend, who also works as a cashier in another place, is paid more for less workload. One day I just didn't get out of bed for the day shift and i get quickly fired. After all this I was very depressed for several months. Do not combine work and study unless you are required to do so. This is a nightmare in its purest form
Ive quit a job the same way. except i decided to call them an hour after they opened, just to let them know ...... manager took that as me taunting him. he sounded so angry and made a threat. he told me he will make sure i dont find a job ever again. i wish that were true. my night shifts were brutal. 10 hour shifts. id rather be unemployed
I see a lot of reviews online of this role and people saying that their boss micromanaged them, or that you’re given unattainable targets, and it’s really high pressure. You make it seem so chill and like a pretty decent job! Do you have much interaction with other staff?
Yes! I get plenty of time chatting with the rest of the team and working along side them as well. My main team leader is definitely one of a kind, super chill and the work load is always realistic which is why I’ve been happy to work here for 4 years now however there are some nights when different team leaders cover and for the most part they live up to the reviews you’ve seen online haha
Yeah it all depends on location. When I first started work my manger used to be very annoying about little things as well. After sometime it becomes better. If you have good coworkers who are chill and not Karen’s then your shift runs smooth. I remember when I first got moved to a different division and my leader used to be on our case lol. Jewel has a lot of old workers and Walmart and target has a lot of young workers. So, it all depends on who’s running the department
I did night swift at Walmart for 9 years. It was overall pretty great. Of course had some bad days but overall a great time and good memories with some good co workers. The only reason I left was to get a better job.
My new shifts have been killing me, first shift ever they asked me to work 10 hours straight after not knowing anything about how anything worked (or being able to clock in.) I get a 30 minute break after 6 hours of work, and since I work at the register mainly my feet are about to explode every other day. I can barely get home anymore in the state I'm in, considering leaving and looking around for a remote job instead - retail can be hit or miss, and it certainly is not for everyone.

They are easy going when you start but yeah definitely a lot of work. Not a day that I haven't woken up with a sore back lol.
First off its the middle of the night,you can never get enough sleep during the day with everything going on outside,second you will have anywhere from 20-40 pallets of stock to manually throw up,and only maybe 3-6 guys to do all that if you are lucky.

Definitely give it a go! It can take a toll especially if you’re doing the overnight shift starting around midnight and not finishing till 6AM but don’t worry about that too much because most stores start fill around 6PM so the main down fall is things like dinner plans on work nights can sometimes be non existent unless you eat super early haha but you get used to it and work around it, then once you finish which is about midnight and arrive home most of the people I know usually relax for some amount of time like an hour or two before going to bed cause usually your body needs time to settle down after running around all night but as long as you can sleep in enough then your sleep schedule will be fine 😄
I did grocery for a year and 7 months. The beginning was fun but it started getting really depressing for me. Having to wake up at 2 am was not worth it but I did get out of work early which was cool😅

I work this job, the same store and a different branch. I don't wanna give away too much but I'm a 7pm to 1.30am guy. I work in the baby or cleaning isle. Can be satisfying, but when it gets this close to Christmas it gets pretty sweaty.
It must be nice working nights shit they never put me on nights and when I ask they say (sorry someone else is) 🙄. But I work 5:30- 10:30 then the night shift comes in.. lmao I also stock just like you hella fast no playing around lol. 😂 keep up the good work man ❤
I have been working 10 days in Home Bargains. The manager is giving some unrealistic targets. Got a notice today for not able to manage their pace. Leaving the job next month.
they would have fired you anyway. i was expected to use 2 machines and 4 functions to package quickly. i couldnt keep up with my coworker of 10 years so i got let go in the 5th day. no training either so i dont blame myself
What I would do I would open the cases real quick and see what product I have and remove the old cases from the shelve only the ones I need to remove then when I'm done opening the new cases just proceed to stock them in and then stock the old ones in. I think that will save you time from opening one case per case. Depending if you have alot of work to do I suggest this is the quickest way.
I have just started as a night fill assistant 5 days a week from 9pm to 6.30am. I work 6 other team members and on a busy night like Friday and Saturday nights when our truck comes in we have to literally empty 22 pallets that are fully stocked up. For me it’s already been 1 week and 2 days today and I feel like I have a lot to learn with managing isles and remembering where certain stock belong. A bit frustrating to when you gotta prove yourselves worthy when working with other team members who have been working as a night fill assistant for years. I watch you open your box of products like it’s a peace of piss and now I clearly see why it takes me like a minute just to open a box of maggie noodles or a box of pringles and want to say thank you for showing me a easier way of getting my products open in a efficient time then shelving them. I look forward to learning more from you cheers Mathew I enjoy my job that much the best part about it is working at night where it’s nice and quiet without my store being flooded with customers I wouldn’t have it any other way. 👍🙂
Last March I did the opposite had to clean off the shelves and floor after a flood tore through our town taking out 2 of our shopping centres losing coles 2 Woolworths Aldi Kmart and BigW now all back up and running and Ive got a nightfill job at Coles

The standard for how much team members need to complete varies from store to store but for the most part it’s quite reasonable and it’s not really stressful especially if the in charge doesn’t expect the impossible from the team haha
Nice and efficient. Hard to tell if that’s your real pace or sped up a lil but when the product flew out at normal speeds, I realized it was just your pace. Good job man.

you don’t really have time limit to finish a bay ( the cart the boxes are on ) , and they shouldn’t get mad tbh, if ur doing your job that is good enough for them. And for my store personally, we just try and get everything out for the boxes and if you can’t , you just put in the back for the next night or next time, at first you may be slow but you get hang of it when u just cut and open and fold boxes :)
Man, it doesn't really matter how fast you are. It's essentially impossible to complete all the work because other people don't work as fast and some straight up just slack off. It's pretty obvious in a supermarket who the weak links of the team are

I assume you've found this out by now, but it's usually a combination of both. when you're new to an area, you start out by leaning on the universal product code that you can find on the barcode and on the tag. eventually after doing this a while, you start to just look at it and know. I've been a seasonal employee at my store for a year (6 months of cumulative on-time) and it took me maybe 2 weeks of stocking before I got to the point of "This box is yellow. Therefore, it is a box of unsweetened coconut milk and it goes right next to the olive oil at knee level." I work a day shift so being asked where shit is probably accelerated it for me. this is for anyone who wanted to ask the same question
@@Lyfty057 it’s easy . Basically you learn the store after a couple days / weeks . Luckily mine is only 16 isles total including paper towels and diapers . If you can’t find a product you just look at the serial code and it’s the last 4 digits you find on it on the price tag . If it’s a new product you jsut toss it too the side and ask your lead . Usually they will say to put it in an open spot and take one to the scan room for the scan person to cut in. My advice is to not work so fast and take your time . The first week or two I was super sore , because I’m constantly moving about 12-16k steps a night = 6/7 miles .. I recommend nice shoes with some good insoles . Also instead of being on your knees just grab a milk crate and sit on it when your doing knee level and under , and use it to also go top shelf .

Did this for 14 years. Now I'm meat manager lol. You're doing too much waking back and fourth. It's more productive to spot it quick then throw or park at the front of the aisle and work your way down. This saves time on walking back and fourth. You'll get more cases per hour.
I work night time the same shift as you for 4 years. The first 2-3 month are gonna be insanely hard for sleep especially but after it pretty fun and peacefull
based on how my store operates, I can safely assume they probably give him some boxes directly off the pallet without checking what goes up. this works because the distribution center sends items that have been requested by the store, usually automatically with manual confirmation
People need to keep this job if they land it. It's clean, climate controlled and peaceful. I use to work in a hot/cold, dirty, loud stressful factory. This is a dream job compared to that. Don't take it for granted.
Any tips to be fast at this. My bosses keep telling me to go faster. However my speed is definitely faster compared them. Its almost like they have nothing else to say. There was time I looked annoyed wasnt doing anything and they said good work. So odd right.
How many cartons do you do an hour? On an average night mine is 85. Night fill hints. Know the aisle. Stick to your aisle until finished. Work from the cage, do not walk and up and down the aisle. Most shelfs use shelf friendly cartons, so dont fill by single items. Dont overfill shelves, drop instead. Top shelves dont necessarily need double or triple stacking.
i get that you have to be quick and efficient but don’t you think you’re kinda rough with things? i’m starting to think this is the reason I always end up with half my bag of chips being broken XD

I work 6 other team members and on a busy night like Friday and Saturday nights when our truck comes in we have to literally empty 22 pallets that are fully stocked up. For me it’s already been 1 week and 2 days today and I feel like I have a lot to learn with managing isles and remembering where certain stock belong. A bit frustrating to when you gotta prove yourselves worthy when working with other team members who have been working as a night fill assistant for years. I watch you open your box of products like it’s a peace of piss and now I clearly see why it takes me like a minute just to open a box of maggie noodles or a box of pringles and want to say thank you for showing me a easier way of getting my products open in a efficient time then shelving them. I look forward to learning more from you cheers Mathew I enjoy my job that much the best part about it is working at night where it’s nice and quiet without my store being flooded with customers I wouldn’t have it any other way. 👍🙂

Last March I did the opposite had to clean off the shelves and floor after a flood tore through our town taking out 2 of our shopping centres losing coles 2 Woolworths Aldi Kmart and BigW now all back up and running and Ive got a nightfill job at Coles

Finished my night shifts, turned out I worked faster then anyone there…it was fun and gave me plenty energy and better focus too.
Is there a set time you have to complete each batch of stocks? If so I’d imagine this to be quite stressful 😂. Looks interesting non the less
The standard for how much team members need to complete varies from store to store but for the most part it’s quite reasonable and it’s not really stressful especially if the in charge doesn’t expect the impossible from the team haha

I think it's his pace. I work overnight produce so it's a bit different for me but generally you don't have to rush or move super fast, unless you want to

I work seafood at a grocery store and often thought about working ovn as im getting tired of serving people for 8 hours a day lol and im a night person myself so staying up wouldnt be an issue

you don’t really have time limit to finish a bay ( the cart the boxes are on ) , and they shouldn’t get mad tbh, if ur doing your job that is good enough for them. And for my store personally, we just try and get everything out for the boxes and if you can’t , you just put in the back for the next night or next time, at first you may be slow but you get hang of it when u just cut and open and fold boxes :)
Man, it doesn't really matter how fast you are. It's essentially impossible to complete all the work because other people don't work as fast and some straight up just slack off.
It's pretty obvious in a supermarket who the weak links of the team are

Starting my first overnight stocking job and super nervous . Don’t know why because I come from a construction background and am used to pressure . How do you know where to stock it before you open the cardboard ? Just muscle memory or are you looking at the numbers

I assume you've found this out by now, but it's usually a combination of both. when you're new to an area, you start out by leaning on the universal product code that you can find on the barcode and on the tag. eventually after doing this a while, you start to just look at it and know. I've been a seasonal employee at my store for a year (6 months of cumulative on-time) and it took me maybe 2 weeks of stocking before I got to the point of "This box is yellow. Therefore, it is a box of unsweetened coconut milk and it goes right next to the olive oil at knee level." I work a day shift so being asked where shit is probably accelerated it for me. this is for anyone who wanted to ask the same question
@@Lyfty057 it’s easy . Basically you learn the store after a couple days / weeks . Luckily mine is only 16 isles total including paper towels and diapers . If you can’t find a product you just look at the serial code and it’s the last 4 digits you find on it on the price tag . If it’s a new product you jsut toss it too the side and ask your lead . Usually they will say to put it in an open spot and take one to the scan room for the scan person to cut in. My advice is to not work so fast and take your time . The first week or two I was super sore , because I’m constantly moving about 12-16k steps a night = 6/7 miles .. I recommend nice shoes with some good insoles . Also instead of being on your knees just grab a milk crate and sit on it when your doing knee level and under , and use it to also go top shelf .

Did this for 14 years. Now I'm meat manager lol. You're doing too much waking back and fourth. It's more productive to spot it quick then throw or park at the front of the aisle and work your way down. This saves time on walking back and fourth. You'll get more cases per hour.
I was fired from being a shelf stacker because I wasn't fast enough. Where I worked we were given a minute or less to do an entire cage

based on how my store operates, I can safely assume they probably give him some boxes directly off the pallet without checking what goes up. this works because the distribution center sends items that have been requested by the store, usually automatically with manual confirmation
People need to keep this job if they land it. It's clean, climate controlled and peaceful. I use to work in a hot/cold, dirty, loud stressful factory. This is a dream job compared to that. Don't take it for granted.

How many cartons do you do an hour? On an average night mine is 85.
Night fill hints.
Know the aisle.
Stick to your aisle until finished.
Work from the cage, do not walk and up and down the aisle.
Most shelfs use shelf friendly cartons, so dont fill by single items.
Dont overfill shelves, drop instead. Top shelves dont necessarily need double or triple stacking.
