Seo Taiji held a concert in South Korea back in 2017 for his 25th anniversary and personally invited BTS to perform alongside him. Not just for 1 song but for numerous songs (I think it was like 7 or 8 songs). It was an incredible concert, but clips are hard to find on youtube due to copyright. It would be like Michael Jackson inviting a group to perform alongside him at a concert, that's how much significance that holds. If you search for SEOTAIJI 25 TIME : TRAVELER DVD & BLU-RAY - Classroom Idea, that is one of the performances that is on youtube (it's on Seo Taiji's official channel), but you get an idea what that concert was like. Funny enough I always thought Gangnam Style was the first kpop song I ever heard but watching Seo Taiji's concert for the first time a couple of years ago one of the songs sounded so familiar. I discovered the song played during a movie I watched often as a kid in the 90's, 3 Ninjas Kick Back. I listen to kpop casually but BTS has been my number 1 for over 5 years now. I can't wait to see more reactions from you.
Seo Taiji personally deemed BTS his successors and he is it took 25 years to find his replacement. BTS are a once in a lifetime group and I am so thankful that I am living at the same time as them. I am 52 so I have lived through Elvis, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, the birth of hip hop, almost all of the 70's music, all the 80's music, all the 90's music, all the 2000 music, all the 2010's music, and now we are in the 2020's. I have been an ARMY since 2014-1 year after their debut. They make up about 95% of the music I listen to. The other music is music I hear accidentally on tv or on a radio in passing, or a shopping center, etc. Before finding BTS I listened to everything except what I call hate music. And I do mean everything from opera to bluegrass, to country, to pop, to hip hop, rap, neo soul, r&B, funk, punk, disco, ballads/love songs, techno, grunge, metal, etc etc. So when I tell you that finding BTS changed my life, that is no exaggeration. So many things changed in my life. I still love music of all kinds but have a low tolerance for so-so mediocre or bad music.
27:50 Bang PD and JYP are good friends, but more than that Band PD was employee #1 with JYP and worked as a successful producer for him for ~20. He was very involved with JYP, but at some point decided he wanted to do his own thing. JYP was actually really supportive of this (which good on him) and even "lent" him a few groups to co-manage, like 2AM.
I discovered K-pop with Bigbang on TH-cam and I still try follow new groups to see the evolution of the genre but none of them shocks and amazed me the way bigbang did. But K-pop is still good and every now and then good songs come out of different groups
I can honestly say that if it weren't for BTS I wouldn't really know of a lot of these bands. I know of the history of Kpop now because of The Rise of Bangtan docu-series and other videos like these. In general, I don't really listen to a lot of pop music, like almost none, western or Korean - there are a huge number of Army that are like me, we are fans of BTS no necessarily fans of the Kpop.
That’s been wild to hear!! I listen to every kind of music, so I understand. Learning about K-pop groups means learning about their fans as well and that itself is just as interesting!! Thank you for your support!!
@@RRREAD_TV Yes, most BTS fans are just fans of good music. Not necessarily K-pop. I personally mostly listen to rock, metal and BTS. K-pop is an idol-making industry. :)
@@RRREAD_TVsame here. Not into K-pop. Grew up with rock&roll, a bit of metal and classic rock. BTS is just amazing by itself! It’s what you didn’t even know you needed all this time! 💜
True. I just listened to random songs by western singers. I love some UK bands like Keane and snow patrol. And US bands like Linkin Park And listened to alternative rock like Paramore but nothing akin to how I follow BTS. Though I am now a V Stan, respect to BTS and its members despite the politics of the music industry in SK is till there. Black Pink and the rest don't come close to BTS despite their popularity. They are just kpop which if you like kpop style music is fine. Nothing deep and fulfilling as BTS. They suffered a lot for their music, members and fans both individually and as a group. I was huge fan of BigBang's music before I learned how influential they were. It's actually ridiculous how much BigBang influenced kpop. They're creativity gave kpop it's unique flair. The 3rd generation is basically the generation that was influenced by Bigbang. The number of people who call BigBang their biggest influence is impressive. Just to name a few. From (G)Idle Soyeon. From BlackPink Jisoo, Rosé, and Jennie. From Ateez Hongjoong, Mingi, Younho, San and Yeosang. From BTS Jin, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook. From Seventeen The8, Dino, Hoshi and S.coups and From TXT Soobin and Taehyung.
BTS is like Drake or Michael Jackson while BIGBANG is like Kendrick Lamar or Prince. BTS broke all records in terms of number and they are global while BIGBANG changed and shaped K-pop culture. I think this is really the best comparison to understand the impact of both groups
To me BTS is not K-pop. They cover all the music genres. Let's enjoy The Rise of Bangtan chapter. And please watch the bonus and the deleted scenes too.
@@rhyker9597 actually their is more too kpop then “popular Korean music”. However just bc they apart of K-pop doesn’t mean they aren’t more than kpop., which they are. You can disagree but also most ARMY will say the same thing as her and me. We will just agree to disagree.
Kpop is an industry. If you would actually climb out of the ass bubble of BTS, you would know a lot of groups cover many genres. Kpop isn't a sound of music.
DKDKTV was probably the best non kpop, kpop channel, on TH-cam at the time. Danny and David were like cultural bridges to international curious people like me. Then the South Korean tax department destroyed whatever legs they have left to stand on. Some of the best explanation videos of BTS complex music videos were by them. Lots of density in Korean language and cultural references lost on us non Koreans were made clear in very entertaining ways by David and Danny. (Bookish Theories is an amazing channel for that too but she isn’t Korean). David has his own channel now. Korean Pizza Club I think it is called? Danny is a member of an indie band and I hope he is thriving. Because the last time I saw him he looked depressed. But I digress.
I believe that is Danny Kim from DKDKTV. He is Korean (not sure if Korean-American) and an very informative guy as well as David Kim from the same channel
I think they were both born in the US but their families moved to SK when they were young. The first videos on that channel are reaction videos from just after their military service.
@@ruthfischer7615they were born in Korea (they both had to do their military service, they have a video about it) but lived in the US (both) and Danny (Canada) for a few years.
Seventheen is in Hybe Bts company, but the are in a sub agency, Bts company Big Hit now is called Hybe have taken in other agencys, Bts ceo mr Bang was ceo before but he wants to be a producer again only, but he is still Hybes chairman
You were amazed of this guy's pronounciation: he is korean and lived a few years in US, I hope that explains the way he handles korean names while speaking english 😂
Thanks for sharing this with us: I wasn't actually aware of this one from DKDKTV. I watched a different one though, which I strongly recommend : it somewhat explained the social impact of Seo Taeji and Boys. At a time when Korea was ruled by military dictators, pop songs had to submit lyrics for censorship: ST&B's song was rejected for a licence to release it, and, while the norm was to amend and resubmit lyrics, STJ chose to release the song purely as an instrumental. The country went mad: while the instrumental topped the chart, people took to the streets in protest, and as a direct result. eventually the censorship law was repealed. Pretty epic. Check it out... BTS have always spoken of their predecessors with respect and even awe, but their own history is one of being abused and bullied. I'm not well informed but I get the impression that many of the big bands which succeeded in Korea before them benefitted from huge promotional spending by their companies who (because of their money) had great influence on media companies, I could specifically name some of those bands, but they do include some bands who were clearly very talented. However, there is no doubt that the Big 3 companies actively took steps to block BTS from media shows and from transmission. BTS made their own place in ways that I suspect none of the other current big names ever did. Where they excelled beyond any others, and beyond anyone's imagination, really, is in creating international appreciation for their work. Other bands did have international success, but nothing even remotely like that of BTS, who really opened up the rest of the world to Kpop groups. And yet, people constantly dispute that BTS 'paved the way' - even tough idols themselves have said this is the case. And yes, while they are now mostly respected, especially by fellow artists, there are many many in the industry and among other fan groups that are trying to pull BTS down. It's very sad indeed .... but will not work.
K-Pop is an industry not a genre. Music from Korea is considered IDOL music. BTS is not KPop, they are considered a global group. They do say they are an Idol group, because they have always performed in Korean. Now, they perform in English and Japanese. So they are International. FYI the narrator is Korean which is why he can pronounce it all. David Kim from The Pizza Club TH-cam channel.
Ahhh im excited to watch this video! Thank you for this. I do hope that you will still react to the new bts guide. It really has a lot of updated info. It's called 'a long and helpful guide to bts(2024)' by purple snow. Borahae 💜
EXO got me into kpop, and I was and still am a big fan of them! They mean a lot to me! There are so many good kpop songs, and I've been listening to all kinds of groups since 2013, and still I have so much left to listen to... I would really love if you react to some EXO songs, Love Shot, Call me Baby and Growl are usually good start
I’m a huge multistan (term for a fan of multiple groups within Kpop) but BTS is my ult group. I really hope in the future you check out SHINee, EXO, Stray Kids, ATEEZ, Seventeen, NCT (BIG group 😂), Monsta X, The Rose, hahahahah I’ll stop right there 😅
Great reaction. Love your curiosity! And your 2 pm comment was funny! Also my head is swimming! We get if you don’t get to everyone’s comments. I look for reactors to get to a few at least.
Only BTS....I have heard a few like BigBang and Rain but never really interested..until I discovered BTS...their music written by them, their message of love yourself is way beyond other what is called Kpop....
I accidentally exposed to kpop because of kdrama but i wasn't interested to dig deeper until i heard epiphany by Jin of BTS. I do listen to other kpop sometimes but it's not something i add to my playlist. It's catchy but not something i wanna listen to on repeat like BTS. No offence to other group, it's just my personal preference. If you're interested in documentary or videoessay on BTS, you can check out boracity magazine. She talks about multiple issues. What i like about her is she always presented her receipts. Enjoy your journey! 👍☺
At this point, as you said, there is a lot there. Is Gangnam Style “kpop”? Is BTS right now even “kpop”? Have they ever? Nowadays, there has been a question about what “kpop” really means. Perhaps it is time to call it k-music. It is like saying American Movies. Which American movies? Right?
And Gackt especially too.. But about BTS is another for me.. Maybe they present, they lyric, most of they personality. You can see from their reality show how ‘bout them enjoying themself and relation for their member. So cute, pure and very2 themself.. Please check more BTS.. And i like and luv your pure reaction ❤️❤️ Thank you so much 💜💜🫰
I’ve been a K-pop fan since 2007 and like the video said I agree that K-pop has been evolving as time goes by and it will be interesting to see where it goes from here. While BTS wasn’t the first group to break into the western market they were the first group that became a household name in the west which is amazing. It just hurts sometimes that many new fans don’t want to acknowledge the amazing groups that came before. I became a fan of K-pop way before BTS and I knew a lot of people here in Texas that loved K-pop before them also, but unlike other older Kpop fans I can acknowledge that BTS allowed K-pop to become what it is today, but it is also important to acknowledge that without the artist that came before them they wouldn’t have been able to make it as far as they had. K-pop is supposed to be fun and I hope you find the group the fits you best. My favorites being SHINee, Xdinary Heroes, NCT, and Aespa!
Armys aren’t kpop stans. We don’t listen to all these groups neither do we know them or keep up with them. Just like any normal pop fan doesn’t keep up with every pop artistes in the genre

I am an BTS ARMY only but I do like songs here and there from other groups, but only Stan BTS.. I like some of TVXQ’s music: -The Chance of Love -Something -Wake Me Up Now Bigbang is a big group but I HIGHLY encourage to be careful. Some of the members have done terrible things… EXO are talented and I don’t have anything wrong with EXO members themselves but there is bad history with EXO fans and ARMY. EXOL (EXO fanbase) bullied ARMY & have done anything they can to take down BTS (some even to this day) Blackpink fans (Blinks) and ARMY also don’t get a long, but mostly bc Blinks like to make fake achievements and/or downplay BTS achievements…(not all but a lot) (but their also bad apples in every fandom) I like some BTOB songs (amazing vocal group that is underrated): -Butterfly -Pray (I’ll be your man) -Beautiful Pain -Dance With Me I like song of Mamamoo songs (underrated group): -Piano Man -Where Are We Now -Dingga -Where R U I like some P1harmony (underrated 4th gen group): -Jump -Everybody Clap -Love Story -Gotta Get back -
While there are good singers and some groups but I only listen to BTS ' and The Rose and yes BTS is not kpop which is why I support them. Its a genre in and of itself.
I only listen to Bts, not into other groups. It'd be interesting to watch your reactions to other Kpop groups as well! Looking forward to watching your reactions !❤
Hi. After getting into BTS I chose just a few other bands to learn about...it can be overwhelming. I *highly* reccommend Bigbang and their leader G-Dragon. They are BTS's inspiration and who they look up to. Plus, their music is really good. G-Dragon is working on a comeback for later this year. 💜💜💜
Could you please react to RM of BTS’s new album - Right Place, Wrong Person? Its an 11-track experimental jazz rap/psychedelic hip hop album. The production quality is insane and unusual and armys love to watch long album reactions too! Listening to the album, you will realise how far it sounds from typical kpop music. It’s really really good.
And now we are in the 5th Gen and there are so many groups that debut each month. I can't keep tack of it anymore. I am a 3rd gen stan for sure. I like Bigbang, SHINee the most from 2nd gen, so many from 3rd gen...Seventeen, BtoB, Block B, B.A.P, Monsta X, Got7, Day6, The Rose, ONF, EXO, etc. and of course BTS, 4th gen I like ATEEZ, TXT, ONEUS, ONEWE, SKZ, P1Harmony, MCND, and on and on
I think you should pay attention to Stray Kids, this is a diverse group, they produce themselves, each of them can easily rap and sing high. They also communicate closely with TxT,BlackPink,ATEEZ and others. You can listen to the recently released feat with Charlie Puth “Lose My Breath" from them. This song is new to them in sound, it's not what they usually do, their frequent sound is noisy, the hators are often compared to a construction site, it can be aggressive rap and high-pitched vocals of everyone. This group has the lowest voice, it's Felix, there's also the fastest rapper in k pop Chanbin, he did feat with Thai rappers Milli, F.Hero song “mirror mirror” I think you might like their songs like “ Topline feat Tiger Jk”, ”muddy water" (performed by 4 old-school rappers), ”maze of memories” (rap by all participants), ”all my life" feat Lil Durk, ”cover me” (lyrical), ”fnf” (song about Australia, as both participants have grown up there), ”easy”, ”The Tortoise and the Hare” (an experimental song written by the producer of the Han group in drunkenness, a lot of people don't notice it, but I think the song is very worthy and interesting in sound). From 3racha (sub unit, producers from the group) you can listen to ”zone”, ”heyday”,”3racha" all this hip-hop. If you want more HYPE songs, these are “Gods menu”, “S-Class”. you can look at others in the 2024 guide
there is much better material on YT discussing everything that may be useful to learn this genre and I can recommend it if you are interested because it was prepared in the form of a document, which is better in my opinion
K-POP EVOLUTION basically there is a preview and 8 episodes of 25 minutes each, so you can make a series and post it here or watch it yourself in your free time
I’m sorry, IDK who recommended this video to you, but this is a HORRIBLE video that does not touch on or explain everything groundbreaking that BTS brought to K-pop and how it completely turned the industry and its companies upside down. All they do is speed run through their achievements and accolades like they just received those and that was it, just absolute magic that one of the brokest boy groups in the industry literally shattered the glass ceiling that countless other groups before them attempted to do and failed. This is a wishy wash kpoppopie stan video pretending to be a serious recap of everything important you need to know abt the history of K-pop while glossing over, spending barely 3 min, talking abt the biggest revolution in K-pop markets since Seo Taiji. The last sentences basically equating the “progress” that other groups made in bringing K-pop to the global mainstream to what BTS did is absolutely disgusting. I recommend the following videos to truly grasp the real, tangible impact that BTS, and ONLY BTS had on K-pop being brought into mainstream conversations. BTS vs K-pop, a video essay BTS: more than K-pop Trend that BTS has created (parts 1 and 2) The “next BTS”: why they fail every time BTS paved the way, why is it so hard to accept it? Why most armys don’t like K-pop
no offense but this is a video about Kpop NOT BTS. Yes BTS had a big impact on the industry but that doesnt mean the whole video needs to be about them. This video does a good job at explaining the history and eras of the genre to someone who may not know anything about it.
@@Izzacca03 no it does not. This isn’t a video abt BTS, and I never said it should only talk abt BTS, I said that it does nothing to explain BTS’s impact on kpop like it should do since it’s supposedly a recap of kpop from Seo Taiji TO BTS. I never said it should take out anything prior to mentioning BTS 18min into a 21 min video, what I said it that in the infinitesimal time they even talk abt BTS nothing is explained of their story and the impact they had along with ARMY in global markets, all they did was mention a few of their achievements and used them as a stepping stew to imply that every act that failed to break through mainstream markets was just like BTS slowly everyone putting one foot in the door and that BTS just happened to be the ones who finally opened it when that is complete BS, BTS and ONYL BTS achieved that, and it was not thanks to any connections or “progress” from previous kpop groups, bc they did not follow their footsteps, they literally trailblazed their own. BTS broke the ceiling bc they were rejected opportunities and were sabotaged in the same industry that those previous kpop acts come and benefitted from. You (universal) don’t get to use their success to preach abt how kpop is or should be more well known and that every groups deserves that visibility and omg how great is that, that everyone worked to together to make kpop more well known when that entire industry, companies and groups did everything in their power to stop BTS from succeeding.
@@secretyidentity2833 im not talking about just BTS they still got a much more in depth explanation than the rest of the groups mentioned. This is not supposed to be an in depth video. Its a crash course for people that dont know the genre and are curious. The video succeeds in what it was trying to do. If i remember correctly this channel has another video that goes much more in depth on just BTS as a group and their journey. We get it, BTS had a massive impact on the industry but thats not what the video is supposed to be about.
You need to react to NCT, the largest group and most diverse group in Kpop. They currently have 26 members but they promote in smaller sub-units. They have NCT 127, NCT DREAM, NCT U, NCT WISH, WayV. They are one of the most unique kpop groups out there and is worth checking out. For starter, I recommend Superhuman, Fact Check, Kick It, Cherry Bomb, 2 Baddies, Favorite, Simon Says by NCT 127
@@RRREAD_TV looking forward to it. also don't stress out about the amount of members, they mainly promote in smaller groups and only occassionally gather during album releases.
EXO fans did so much harm to BTS and the ARMYs that I can't like the group to this day, I have nothing against the members, but I don't listen to them, at most "Love shot" and "Rover".The best groups of the third generation are Mamamoo and Gidle without a doubt. Mamamoo is the best in vocals, believe me, there is no female group with vocal power like Mamamoo. They deserved greater recognition, I think it's unfair that a talented group can't reach the top, while one that doesn't guarantee themselves live, barely dances and is the biggest group today. The kpop industry is getting bigger and bigger, but no group can reach where BTS has reached, it is never unworthy. But TXT, Enhypen and Straykids are the best currently, but they are not growing enough. This makes me believe more in destiny, even with other fandoms trying, the group in the army and many scandals, BTS doesn't lose its majesty. Maybe it's because they really deserve to be at the top.
Thanks for your insight definitely going to check out some of the groups mentioned here!! Their return is going to be monumental!! Thank you for your support!!
Please check out groups from other companies too to really grasp kpop since hybe is a new company i think u should get into groups from the other older companies that made kpop what it is today for example SM
Big Hit was founded in 2005. Not to mention that Bang produced/wrote Hitsongs for K-pop artists before that. Funnily enough I see SM struggeling since last year and they are loosing artists and people. I hope their artists are safe and can make the music they like. That does not mean he should not listen to the artists you like. Just please do not formulate it like that. Because SM is the major reason why in SK people have trouble to believe Idols can be/are artists.
@ruthfischer7615 i believe what i said is correct but your last sentence does not make any sense since the most talented vocalists are from SM and singing is the main thing that makes or break an idol. I dont mean this in a mean way its just the way in which you replied me is very obviously ironic Oh and i was talking about hybe but still lets consider it the same, even though big hit was founded in 2005 they havent contributed in a single thing to the industry like the big three has. The only thing big hit has ever done to become relevant is bts
I discovered K-pop with Bigbang on TH-cam and I still try follow new groups to see the evolution of the genre but none of them shocks and amazed me the way bigbang did. But K-pop is still good and every now and then good songs come out of different groups

That’s awesome!! Thank you for your support!!

BTS is like Drake or Michael Jackson while BIGBANG is like Kendrick Lamar or Prince. BTS broke all records in terms of number and they are global while BIGBANG changed and shaped K-pop culture. I think this is really the best comparison to understand the impact of both groups
It is a good parallelism. BTS is fine, but BB/G-D's have had a deeper role in their. Industry.
True.

Wow that’s insane!! Thank you for your support!!

Can’t stop greatness!! Thank you for your support!!
Facts 👌 especially the 2nd paragraph
K-Pop is an industry not a genre. Music from Korea is considered IDOL music. BTS is not KPop, they are considered a global group. They do say they are an Idol group, because they have always performed in Korean. Now, they perform in English and Japanese. So they are International. FYI the narrator is Korean which is why he can pronounce it all. David Kim from The Pizza Club TH-cam channel.

Right?

I like some of TVXQ’s music:
-The Chance of Love
-Something
-Wake Me Up
Now Bigbang is a big group but I HIGHLY encourage to be careful. Some of the members have done terrible things…
EXO are talented and I don’t have anything wrong with EXO members themselves but there is bad history with EXO fans and ARMY. EXOL (EXO fanbase) bullied ARMY & have done anything they can to take down BTS (some even to this day)
Blackpink fans (Blinks) and ARMY also don’t get a long, but mostly bc Blinks like to make fake achievements and/or downplay BTS achievements…(not all but a lot) (but their also bad apples in every fandom)
I like some BTOB songs (amazing vocal group that is underrated):
-Butterfly
-Pray (I’ll be your man)
-Beautiful Pain
-Dance With Me
I like song of Mamamoo songs (underrated group):
-Piano Man
-Where Are We Now
-Dingga
-Where R U
I like some P1harmony (underrated 4th gen group):
-Jump
-Everybody Clap
-Love Story
-Gotta Get back

@@RRREAD_TV oh ok
BTS vs K-pop, a video essay
BTS: more than K-pop
Trend that BTS has created (parts 1 and 2)
The “next BTS”: why they fail every time
BTS paved the way, why is it so hard to accept it?
Why most armys don’t like K-pop
Her videos are really good and explain things really well.
Bravo well said.
no offense but this is a video about Kpop NOT BTS.

Definitely going to be checking out more groups in the future!! Thank you for your support!!
@ruthfischer7615 and SM is the reason why K-pop started in the first place.
@ruthfischer7615 i believe what i said is correct but your last sentence does not make any sense since the most talented vocalists are from SM and singing is the main thing that makes or break an idol. I dont mean this in a mean way its just the way in which you replied me is very obviously ironic
Oh and i was talking about hybe but still lets consider it the same, even though big hit was founded in 2005 they havent contributed in a single thing to the industry like the big three has. The only thing big hit has ever done to become relevant is bts
@RRREAD_TV of course! Ill be here for your journey
