- Why Only ONE Of Cinderella’s Stepsisters Turned Good...| Disney’s Cinderella
There is no doubt in the world that Anastasia and Drizella Tremaine coined the term “Evil Step Sisters.” But as time went on in the Cinderella universe, only one of them stayed that way. Anastasia Tremaine was the only member of her immediate family that took a step back from her wickedness and decided to turn her life around in a much more positive way. And although her mother didn’t like the person that she was becoming, it was ultimately for the best and led Anastasia to her true happily ever after.

💛Keep being awesome everyone!!💛
Anastasia’s redemption arc was beautifully done. As an adult, I realize Anastasia only participated in her mother’s and sister’s actions because she knew that they would treat her badly and ostracize her if she didn’t.
Lady Tremaine literally brainwashed and manipulated Anastasia and then once she met the Baker, she chose to break the cycle of Lady Tremaine’s abuse. She grew closer with Cinderella too. It was beautiful to watch.
Ive noticed the same thing. Aside from destroying Cinderella’s dress and yelling at her a couple of times, Anastasia was the less aggressive and never started any mockery towards her stepsister.
I just realized that the stepsister in the Ever After movie predated Anastasia’s redemption stories in both Cinderella 2 and 3, but mostly the third movie!
Unrelated: does anyone know the name of the background music?
That hug at the end is so beautiful, they're finally a happy family, and even the King welcomed Anastasia to the family, everything is forgiven
Fr!!! I was surprised how good the third movie was, too. I have always wanted things that twist the story in interesting ways!
So it was great.
Someday, i really wish Disney made a spin-off movie or series about Anastasia and the baker and their life after their 'ever after'.
That would be amazing!
@@PeachWookiee totally I agree
Anastasia is my fav because she changed for the better
Yess they r so cute together Cinderella really helped Anastasia escape her evil mother
@@coolgal13and her toxic sister
I remember absolutely despising the Tremaine sisters, but I realised, when Cinderella isn’t around, Anastasia gets picked on by her sister and mother. She’s mistreated and manipulated too.
After Cinderella was gone, they shifted their bullying target on her.
@@HWDragonbornThe cruel irony of it all is that, in the Charles Perrault version of the story (the same one Walt adapted from), when the stepmother wanted to call Ella “Cinderwench”, it was the youngest sister (who was the nicest of the group), to name her “Cinderella”, wanting to retain Ella’s name. Since Anastasia Tremaine is canonically the young stepsister, this implies that she’s always meant to be the redeemer. Which makes it gut-wrenching when Kingdom Hearts didn’t get the memo.
Lady Tremaine abuses them all to keep them in order, I wonder if she was abused when she was younger?
Exactly. The same way they did to Cinderella. Lucky for her, Cinderella show her that there’s a better way than that life. And Anastasia was so happy she fell in love with a baker and being together ever since. Then in the third movie, Anastasia realizes that you can’t change time cause that won’t make you feel better unless you find someone that really likes you. By mean that, I mean, other person beside the prince that’s why she meet the baker and fell in love from the second movie.
Narcissist cycle of abuse. Lady Tramaine has to treat someone else like the bad one. Without Cinderella around to hold down it shifted to Anastasia. It was like this for me on Mom's side, I was always picked on by my brother and his dad. Mom did nothing about it. When I left they started bullying her. I didn't have much sympathy when she was fishing for sympathy she didn't show me in the same situation.
I’ll give it to Anastasia. She was wrong to follow the majority in how her stepsister was treated but she eventually grew a spine and told her mother to bug off
Even before the Cinderella sequels came out, I’ve always suspected that Anastasia had some good in her deep down. She was just surrounded by a toxic family who pressured and out bad ideas into her head. She reminds me of that one high school girl whose like the bullies sidekick but isn’t really mean. She’s only mean when under the influence of the head bully and is too scared or spineless to stand up to them.
Why does this sound as relevant a message now as ever?
it's hard to break away from the established norm you were taught all your life, but when someone gives you an opportunity to change and you have goals to empower you through the difficulties of change, it can happen
Also in the second one when Anastasia finally stood up to her mother and told her she would marry whom she liked, Drizella for a moment thought about doing the same thing that Anastasia did but was figuratively dragged away by Lady Tremaine.
Yes it was morally wrong, but you also have to acknowledge she was in a situation where she couldn't say no to her Mother. She was abused and manipulated, and I always suspected the Mother poisoned her 2nd Husband, so... She could have been endangering herself if she didn't listen.
Like the king says, “Everyone deserves true love.” And Anastasia is definitely one that deserves such a happy ending like Cinderella.
King is W
👑👑👑
:')))
I love how Cinderella and Anastasia act like real sisters in the sequels.
They may not be related by blood, what matters is that they are family and that they support each other nonetheless. That is what helped them truly bond as sisters as a family
It's heavily implied in the 1st film that Lady Tremaine is physically abusive and the 3rd essentially confirms it when Drizella suggests beating Anastasia with a stick. The step sisters show how differently people in the same situation can turn out by what kind of people they meet and help they get.
....interesting I honestly think Tremaine was abusive
Oh she's definitely abusive in a multitude of ways. It's just never directly shown or stated she uses physical violence against any of them, but Drizella didn't decide beating her sister was a good suggestion without a reason.
A stick.
@@Zyra19 There was definitely some psychological abuse, if nothing else (which is basically the same kind of abuse Cinderella receives 🤔.)
This is for a great and useful message to the public that just because someone’s on the same DNA doesn’t means they’re all the same, Anastasia was brainwashed to act a certain way, but developed a sense of empathy that her sister and mother failed to. Someone can develop empathy while her/his dna family remains sociopaths.
That's a choice and the fault of the individual person, there are bad people and there are good people, even in the same family, and all of them are responsible for their own actions and way of being, their morals and values, what they choose to be, what they like in this sense too because there are people, many people that like to be bad, immoral or evil and do and act the way they do even if it's wrong and they enjoy it
@@doloresgronenberg5882psychopaths basically, and unfortunately due to bullying; even the purest of people take a turn to the dark side because they start seeing kindness as a "weakness"
When in reality: they were doormats
@@SundaeSaurus I can see where that mentality is coming from: they were kind, yet they were treated horribly, hence kindness = weakness.
@@SundaeSaurusshe may have been her mother but she was not her momma
@@doloresgronenberg5882Some people do have a change of heart.
I was under the impression Anastasia was not quite as mean as drizella. Remember the scene where the stepsisters tore apart Cinderella’s dress? Drizella started it, Anastasia followed after
Your right she just followed what her family did
Not to mention that Drizella always verbally insulted Cinderella aswell whilst Anastasia just smirked. Even in the first film, Anastasia was a lot nicer than Drizella.
Additionally, her eyes were closed as she ripped it, she didnt want to but Tremaine's influence caused a heavy burden on her morals
Oh yes. I always thought that Anastasia was the better stepsister unlike Drizella. And I'm glad she got a happy ending.
I absolutely love Anastasia's redemption arc because even though she had treated Cinderella like a servant, she turned her whole life around by asking Cinderella for help when she fell in love with the baker. Anastasia had to find someone who would love her for her and she wouldn't marry someone who had wealth but would care for her because Anastasia needed help from Cinderella who in the end was willing to help her and now I see why Anastasia became a kindhearted person just like Cinderella and I'm proud of her for finding true love. Cinderella and Anastasia are two sorts of people who believe that kindness and love are better ways to treat people than being mean to them. The golden rule states in Matthew 7:12 "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." God wants everyone to treat others the way we want to be treated because if we do that, we will please God and be blessed by Him.
You are one hundred percent correct, my friend. I couldn’t have said it better, myself.
Even nor religious person there is all ways just good life advises sprinkled on many of them.
Amen!
Amen❤
I believe that yes, Anastasia did have some bad qualities with the first movie. But my mother told me:
“We make bad choices in life. That doesn’t mean you have to keep following them. You live and learn from your mistakes.”
We have to remember, Child are not bad by choice but by example. Look at Mitral from Lilo and Stitch. Her father was abusive and had a strong opinion of what was normal AND HE walked out on the family. Anastasia is not different in beginning. But once she learned that there was another way to fight for what you want without being mean or cruel she redeemed herself and took responsibility and did the right thing by telling her mother that her way is not how she wants to live her life.
I think it's "Mertle," but I see your point nonetheless.
Honestly, I'm willing to bet Lady Tremaine probably says awful things about her daughter's on the sly, because they are "awkward," compared to Cinderella. That could have also fueled the bullying of Cinderella. Pitting siblings against one another never turns out well.
I also noticed in the first movie that while Anastasia was pretty awful to Cinderella, it was pretty mild compared to Drizella and Lady Tremaine.
You know it’s interesting. Now that I’m older I’ve learned more about history and the fact that they chose to have Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella appear as the villains because they wanted to marry the prince for his social status (as well as how they treated Cinderella) is rather interesting. That was extremely common for that time period in history in French aristocracy. It was very rare for people to marry for love, and it would’ve been even rarer for the prince to marry Cinderella who came with no dowry. For him to even associate with her is shocking. Her family was clearly poor because they needed to use Cinderella as their maid, so if they saw her as even lower class than themselves, what should he think? This story was written in 1697. That was a very modern take for the times.
nah the fact that it went against such social norms is why it was considered a fairy tale in the first place "everyone" of the time period "knew" that such things would never happen but the idea of being able to breakdown or ignore such class barriers was fun to dream about for people of all walks of life
Huh, were they poor in the Disney version? I was under the impression that they are wealthy but evil step-mother is so stingy with money that she never hired servants😅
There were a few instances where kings and princes in Europe did marry peasants. See Elizabeth Woodville. She was the Queen of England in the 1400s. She came from a poor and forsaken family, and she was also a widow of a minor lord. She took her sons with her one day to beg the king, who was out hunting, for financial aid, but the king, upon seeing her great beauty, instantly fell in love with her, amd against his advisors' wishes, married the peasant girl he met in the first. This enraged the English nobility as the king should have married a foreign princess to secure an alliance from another kingdom.
Cinderella's family wasn't poor, but became poor after her father's death, when the stepmother squandered his fortune.
If I recall, Ella's family actually was rich on her father's side, and only became poor because of Tremaine's overspending and lavish lifestyle. At least, Ever After put that thought in my head, as well as the disney movies actually
Even tho it's sad that her sister couldn't see the light and redeem herself as well, I think this is, sadly, the most realistic approach to that situation, just because a rotten apple turned out to be actually good, it doesn't mean that the rest are the same
I love the idea that someone who was once bad can turn good. Anastasia really deserved that happy ending. Just wished Lady Tremaine would have a change of heart!
Some people can never change sometimes. It takes time to outgrow bad traits.
@@swarlock It specially takes a lot of self-reflection as well as cutting off some level of emotion just to give you some time to think.
I think the one who needed a change of heart is Drizilla.
Oddly enough, there was a film back in the late 90s called Ever After , with Drew Barrymore as Cinderella, where one of the stepsister was actually not "evil." In fact, she was a "victim" of own family's taunting of her weight. Perhaps they clue some clues from that movie, having one sister not so mean, even if it were belated? Just a thought.
I love that movie and it wasn't just Jacqueline's weight that was taunted, they pretty much taunted her for her opinion's and thoughts as well
I love that movie and yes it was the younger stepsister that was very kind to Danielle(the Cinderella of that story)
I also could've sworn in one of the many Cinderella adaptations, I could swear that there was one where at least one step sister was nice to her throughout the entire film
They didn’t get the idea from Ever After. It’s a classic variant of the Cinderella tale, dating back at least to the German Aschenputtel, thag one of the stepsisters is nice, or at least less mean, to Cinderella.
@@erinbrown3744 It's actually from the French fairy tale written by Charles Perrault, The Glass Slipper or something of the sort because that's the version where one of the stepsisters is nicer whilst Grimm's version has both stepsisters being cruel and punished by Cinderella's birds
Cinderella got her happily ever after through magic, Anastasia got hers through sheer Fate.
how? Cause she met the baker guy BOTH TIMES without magical interference. :D
Destiny is a magic category in video games and series. The magic category is spacetime magic.
I think after the ending Anastasia gets back with the baker, they later get married and start a family together. It’s not the life her mother planned for her but she’s happy.
After Lady Tremaine dies Drizella has no choice but to swallow her pride and ask Cindy for a job, who gives her a job as a palace maid. Cindy isn’t abusive to Drizella (she really did once think of her as family) but Prudence always keeps a close eye on her
Lady Tremaine doesn't die as far as I know, in descendants, she is seen as the grandmother of Drizella's daughter Dizzy.
@@saanviwithtoys618 Descendants has a lot of inconsistencies with the original disney movies, villain's that should be dead are alive, so I don't think that just because Tremaine is alive in descendants means she isn't dead especially because she was already quite old, although she never died in the films. Besides, this comment is just a headcanon of the commenter
Actually in Descendants King Beast created the Isle of the Lost and thinking that death was too good for them forced someone to revive them, it's never mentioned who but the speculation is that the person is Hades, who was forced by Zeus, and then locked all the villains away "forever".
Anastasia deserves to have a better life in her redemption to make amends to Cinderella.
It's possible that Cinderella invited her to be her advisor in her new role as princess
Well she did get her happy ending. She feel in love with that baker and they got together.
@@drewpearce1383She did in the 90’s movie, Ever After.
My head cannon is that princess Anastasia is like a descent of hers because of the red hair.❤❤❤
Agreed
I absolutely love that Anastasia learned her lesson and found the love she was looking for. I mean, good things come to those who change.❤
First time a main character in any animated cartoon create two separate timelines for themselves great events to watch. Very glad for Anastasia.
As someone with an abusive narcissistic sibling, I’d say toxic people who really want to change/repair will do by choice. Takes work & time. Forgiveness isn’t free but kindness/compassion is.
I remember being a kid and watching Cinderella 2. I thought the other two stories were okay, but I loved Anastasia's story. I watched that story over and over again. Looking back I think I liked it so much because 1) it is just and adorable meet n' cute 2) it was a great lesson of not everyone is one way or another and always like that. Anastasia was bad that slowly got better. She learned and grew which was rare at the time in kid movies.
Me and my Sister LOVE Anastasia's redemption so much! It's our favorite aspect of the sequels. And honestly, yes, I think it does make up for it as (you pointed out) her bad behavior was mainly due to her Mother's influence.
What happened here is actually very realistic to toxic families who have a "black sheep" or "scapegoat" victim. When the black sheep runs away and focuses on making a better life for themselves, ceasing all former contact, the toxic family will either elect a new black sheep, or just eat eachother alive.
Anastasia has always been my favorite stepsister, even before the sequels. I always felt she could eventually become Cinderella’s friend in the future.
I love how they decided to have an redemption arc for her and gave her true love in both endings, just like Cinderella said “anyone can fall in love” and as the king said “everyone deserves true love”
This actually because on Charles Perrault version of the story it´s stated that actually one of Cinderella stepsister was less evil to her than the other sister, and toward the end of the story both repented on her missbehavior to her and got married with some important noblemen closekin to the Prince. Also this idea got into the final version which Disney used for Anastasia evolution on the animated sequels of the 2000s after the live-action movie "Ever After" where indeed Cinderella only has misstreatment from her stepmother and the elder stepsister but not from a younger one closer to her and in the end she actually ends marrying a close friend of the Prince whereas her mother and sister got a proper punishment as servants in the palace pretty much on the same as Cinderella 3 after credits last scene when they go back to be humans from being frogs early on after a fireback spell, but find themselves into Cinderella´s classical postition as servants. So both the creators of Disney as well the ones from Ever After decided that one of Cinderella´s stepsisters actually needed a good ending on her own to be set apart from the other one and their mother. This was also used in opera after the plot of La Cenerentola of Rossini much early on!!
In Ever After, I figured Anastasia changed because of experiencing what Danielle went through
I have always seen good in Anastasia she broke free of her mother's curse she find her happiness with her own prince I am soo happy for her
In Russian and Greek, Anastasia means resurrection. That doesn’t always mean coming back from the dead it can also mean having an awakening or making a new life. With that meaning in her name, it makes perfect sense that she would have a redemption arc.
That really true?? Super cool~!
THIS is why low key, Lady Tremaine is one of THE scariest Disney villains--she doesn't need dark magic or a hook for a hand or teeth and claws or an army of the undead, she has sociopathy and a willingness to hurt anyone and manipulate anyone in order to get her way.
Her iconic death glare shows she's embrace her evilness. Which is scary for a family film
Most scariest thing is there is probably parents like her out there
It was a great redemption arc. I think such stories resonate because we all need redemption at some level. Happily Ever After gives us hope for our own circumstances.
Anastasia is good example of being a good person even if you start out bad be like Anastasia.
I think she had a beautiful story. Not everyone is given the chance to be good. They have a skewed idea of themselves that, while very wrong, they dont realize that they arent the person they want to be. They r carried by the whims of family and expectations thrown on them without giving it a whole lot of thought to something more.
They are incomplete and immature and just need to be given a nudge or two in the right direction to be better selves than they were a day/week/month ago. Kindness and compassion and maybe even forgiveness for the wrongs they did. Which is so hard to do cause we live in a society of "you hurt me, ill hurt someone else."
Talk about a bad girl turned good.
She might be the best example of a bad person going good well her and Vegeta from dragon ball Z
Just like Regina from “Once Upon a Time”.
It always bothered me that Anastasia seemed to go through the same redemption arc twice, especially watching it in the order the films came out (it makes more sense if you watch it as 1,3,2) as I was hopeful that seeing Anastasia break free from her mother and find love would sway Drizella. Especially with the look Drizella gives at the end of the Baker story.
Honestly I love the fact Disney made Anastasia kindhearted. She is literally one of the best written characters from Disney.
Such a sweet ending for such a broken character. Warms my heart every time.
Anastasia gives me strong ADHD vibes. Nothing ever works for her no matter how hard she tries, she's clumsy and brisk and at times inconsiderate with her speech but her heart is at the right place.
Anastasia learned that, no matter how it happens and how much you re told to want it, a lie is still no substitute for what you really need.
Anastasia is genuinely a good person at heart, it just living with her mother sadly have turn her life into something she didn't want but im glad she get her own happy ending.
I really like how they gave Anastasia a redemption arc. It was honestly the best part of both of the sequels.
i like that she doesnt just immediately never do any wrong again
I think a big part of the reason Tremaine, Drizella, and Anastasia acted the way they were was because they weren't happy, which caused them to lash out (misery loves company), but Anastasia was able to find happiness and so stopped being so "wicked".
Most would have hanged all three of them stating one heel-face-turn does not make up for a lifetime of abuse
Cinderella A Twist in Time was one of few Disney sequels that's actually good. Anastasia's redemption arc is so beautiful
I'm not sure if anyone's pointed it out, but Anastasia never starts any of Cinderella's bullying in the movie. It's always either Lady Tremaine or Drizella and Anastasia joins in.
Only exception is the breakfast scene and that was more her thinking that Cinderella really did put a mouse under her cup.
Right ...
Anastasia's story is the best to come out of Cinderella. Gives hope that even if we don't get a fairy tale ending, we can still forge our own way to happiness. That we can find someone who gets and accepts us.
i am glad anastasia turned good and turned her life around when she felt happy when she fell in love with the baker
In Disney, Anastasia is one Cinderella's step Sister.
In 20th Century Fox, Anastasia is MC in one of their animated movie.
Disney bought 20th Century Fox.
Now Disney has two characters named Anastasia.
That's really a really interesting coincidence. Not sure if the historical Anastasia's (on whom the Fox movie character was based) name was the inspiration for the stepsister Anastasia's name but it is a very pretty name nonetheless.
On the other hand with Anastasia's sis Drizella, Disney was definitely playing off some dry dark humor with that name which I have a feeling they most likely created themselves.
Honestly Anastasia is not a bad-looking person and it's kind of awesome that she did end up with somebody yeah they weren't royalty but they were somebody she's still ended up falling in love with who probably treated her the way she wanted to be treated and I'm glad that this was an actual story idea that was tackled
I had this movie when I was a kid, I loved Anastasia's story a lot more than the first movie. Cinderella makes it seem so easy to be kind and do the right thing even when you are not feeling at your best, I never could relate to her. But Anastasia feels more human, she has many flaws and is easily manipulated by her family because she thinks her mother knows and wants the best for her. She goes along in her mean actions with the rest and it isn't until after she suffers a little humiliation and pain that she learns why the things she did were wrong and wants to do better. She wants love and wants to be a better person and tries. And her happy ending promises hardships in her rocky relationship with her mother and sister and marrying a baker coming from a noble family. It was so sweet.
I still think the second movie could of worked as one story instead of 3 separate fail Tv episodes.
Like the main story be about Cinderella learning about the princess life and be the ball she sets up.
Jacque turning human can add to the story and drezila falls in love with him under the impression that Jacque is some lord or baron.
3 Anastasia meets the baker but lady tremaine keeps her from finding true happiness and sets her up with other young lords/barrons men of wealth.
Jacque is playing keep away from drezilla and runs into Cinderella. Cinderella does recognize him and asks how he ended up like this.
Mean while plans for the ball are not going to the way the duke had originally plan and us worried about what the king might do to him.
…..
Just saying
Altered time and still ends up with the baker?
I think there's a touch of *destiny* about you Anastasia.
Anastasia is revealed to be the youngest of Tremaine's daughters, so without Cinderella around its kind of natural that she ends up being the one Drizella and Tremaine treat badly. Drizella and Tremaine are women who need to step on *someone* to make themselves feel better. Finding someone who loved them for them was how Cinderella and Anastasia escaped that toxicity and ended up happy. Even when Anastasia slipped back a bit in the third movie, she didn't forget what happened in the second. It just shows her to be human. At that point, I see Anastasia needing the King as the father she had been without for so long, as the King always saw her as the good person she was deep down.
If I had been Cinderella, I would have been “ Karma’s a b**** right, Anastasia?”
I like Anastasia’s redemption. I wish she was still happy with the baker in the third movie. I feel like the second movie should have been the third
She was, it was mentioned in the video that the third movie wraps up with her meeting the baker at the end.
Because she chose to be good and also falling in love can heal anyone's heart.
Drizzla will always be Evil and do what her mom says she doesn't get it yet she still follows her mother for everything
I didn't even really think about or realise about Anastasia and Drizella losing *two* father figures, and as *children* no less, until this video. After that experience I wouldn't be surprised if both sisters also didn't have some issues forming emotional bonds with males, not wanting to lose them and get hurt again. Going after the prince for "only" his status and money is a lot easier to hypothetically accept in that scenario than actually going for love towards a male. I wouldn't be surprised if that's another reason the king touched Anastasia's heart so deeply, because she's never really had a father.
I remember watching the 2nd film. I was so happy for Anastasia!
And hearing this all over still makes me so happy for her!
Anastasia story was one of the best redemption arc i ever saw. We could actually saw her atitude trully changed little by little and not instanteniously, we could see that she is indeed still have kindness in her heart.
What I found good, is that they changed Anastasias hairstyle when her true self comes out
We need a spin-off of Anastasia!! Kinda wanna see Druzella too
It's really good prevailing as Cinderella forgives Anastasia.... family love prevails over family rivalry .
I personally do see it as it would take alot of time for her to truely redeem herself, but the steps shes taken in the sequels was the right path at least
Ngl Anastasia looking like a baddie when she’s not evil
I completely forgot about this wow
"A Love Story in The Baking" was a nice touch ❤
Anastasia looks like Ariel but a little bit older
The redemption was not so much making up to Cinderella for all she did at her mother's behest so much as Anastasia standing up to her Status seeking mother and being her own woman.
Back around the time of the original writing of this story. (The brother's Grimm version), children of families of higher standings were expected to pair up with a mate of at least equal or higher social standings. Daughter's in particular were treated like purebred dogs or horses as they were frequently told they had to pick a husband of "Good Breeding", but parent's were not above threatening son's if he fell in love with someone not of thier choosing. It's why you hear so much about eloping or miserable marriages that ended badly in some local history books. To some extent this practice still goes on in some wealthy families.
Anastasia’s smile @ 2:35 is both hilarious and horrifying asf! 😂
My bro laughed so hard I also laughed😂
I like that at least one of Cinderella's stepfamily decided to turn her life around & felt guilty & regretful of how she treated Cinderella I remember as a kid our principal read us Cinderella & at the end not only did Cinderella get married but so did both of her stepsisters. Notice how Anastasia changed her look in order to win the Baker's heart she looked more relaxed & carefree.
I’m happy for Anastasia. She deserves a happily ever after.
She’s the girl equivalent of Boba Fett from Star Wars. The character who does bad things but not TOO bad things and then comes around before it’s too late.
I think the direction that Disney took with Anastasia was for the best. Not all villains are irredeemable, and are able to see the light and become good when they're able to mix with the right people who care about them and are willing to give them another chance. I've always liked the trope of bad guys becoming good guys since it allows us to look further into who they are behind the aggression and masking they once depended upon.
In some cases, villainy isn't born, it's created. Whether through manipulation, a traumatic experience, losing a loved one or feeling like other people don't care about them enough to help them, causing them to develop trust issues in the process. In a lot of ways, villains can be victims as much as the heroes can be.
I fully feel that Anastasia earned her redemption, in Both movies.
I always thought them stealing the fairy godmother wand happened before, Anastasia met the baker. That was my headcanon for it, just made the most sense to me.
Somehow even before I saw the sequels I vibed that Anastasia was the nicer one.
She was. Notice that she never started the bullying? It was Drizella that always started it. Anastasia just went along with it. And she never called Cinderella nasty names either nor was she physically abusive like Drizella. Another example is when Anastasia tried to get the footman off of her, she did push him a bit too hard with her foot but at first, she at least knew he was trying to get the shoe on. Drizella on the other hand, slapped the footman, called him an idiot and violently pushed him away. Had it not been a family film, I bet she would have swore at him aswell.
To me Anastasia wants her own dream and life not to be control by her mother Lady Tremaine just brainwashed her daughters to be like her but when Anastasia broke it Lady Tremaine doesn't have any power anymore over her
what girl could resist a man who can bake apple fritters and tarts
Sounds like a perfect husband material to me
She did redeem herself
I haven't read cold hearted but i did read the wicked ones which is also about the step sisters and lady Tremaine. It's a good read but also gave a background to the three characters without giving cinderella the show.
I remember when I first saw Cinderella 2 and 3 Anastasia started becoming my favorite out of the step sisters and my third favorite character in the series
Anastasia and her Ariel hair 💅
As a person who grew up with a decent amount of Disney Sequels, I sometimes don't understand the hate given to some of them, Examples being little mermaid, Pocahontas 2, LATT 2, some things like that, I loved all three of the Cinderella Movies and I still do to this day. Anastasia is a wonderful girl and when I look back on the movies, I can see exactly what she was going through. She's a good girl, who simply just needed a push in the right direction is all.
This is why I didn’t like the 2015 remake. They didn’t include this detail of Anastasia not being as evil as Drizella and Lady Tremaine, which I wish they did.
Ever After: A Cinderella Story actually plays on this as well. I'm not sure if it's the same step sister but one of the step sisters eventually helps Cinderella.
we are Glad anastasia reformed😊
I actually did see all three movies. Certainly a Twist I gotta to say.
To be fair, in Twisted in Time, Anastasia was a little jealous of Cinderella because she found her Prince and she was scrubbing dishes and doing everything Cinderella did before she met the prince. She was manipulated and abused by step mother and sister too and I see Anastasia being less mean to Cinderella. I see Anastasia, Cinderella, and their husbands being friends
Well i suppose is a layer of change considering all the horrible things she did to Cinderella. So i say yes she did redeem herself for it.
In Charles Perrault's version of the fairytale, the unnamed younger stepsister is described as being not as rude or spiteful as the elder. And this has been depicted in media many times over the years, from Jacqueline in Ever After (1998), to Anastasia's redemption in Cinderella II.
Funny enough, I think Walt Disney based his Cinderella on the Brother's Grimm version, the one with feet mutilations. And that didn't have redeemed stepsisters. I guess by 2002, Disney animators (the direct-to-video department guys specifically) decided to alter course. Too bad they didn't tell the guys at Square Enix, who were making the Kingdom Hearts games. Because they went full Grim - yes, that's a pun.
Her and iago from Aladdin would honestly be friends if they met. Both have similar redemption arcs.
Yeah, those 2 are my favorite redemption arcs from Disney
Because she chose to improve herself
I've always believed evil isn't something you're born with. (with the exception of Ganondorf and other cursed beings) and I think Anastasia is a great example of this.
True love and happiness ❤️
In original written by Andersen there are a lot of hints showing that younger of sisters was actually nice to Cinderella when no one was around so glad Disney finally followed that path
This was when there were good writers at Disney with amazing storytelling.
Cinderella sequels were understated gems (especially 3).
It's interesting how the troupe has been used in other versions, like in Ever After with Drew Barrymore (spoiler alert ahead). Margarite was favored for her beauty, while Jacqueline was looked down on despite her efforts to be good enough in other ways. In the end, it was Jacqueline who had a place in Danielle's new life as a princess because she showed kindness, and helped the prince rescue Danielle after she was sold.
I think the point of the step sisters is that some people can change while others wont
if I remember right, I think in an OLD episode sesame street, a version of Cinderella had a similar outcome to this where after she married the prince one of her step sisters became nice to her.
I want a spin-off movie of Anastasia
