Yes Indeed! A very pleasing and fitting Tribute to our "Gaana Saraswathi", "Isai Vaani", "Sangheedha Kalaanithi" MSMa! That Divinity, that Divinity in her facial expressions, her posture, her heavenly look, her Dignity in every one of her body language can Never be brought forward by these singers!
This composition captures the essence of advaita philosophy. To reduce it to a light music song with so much of BGM dilutes the essence of the the composition. MS Amma sang the song with the bhava, bringing out the essence.... am not sure if anyone of these singers focussed on the bhavaartha. Surely they did focus on presenting themselves well and on the quality of singing, giving up the bhavaartha. Old schooler me ! This is not to hurt anyone's feelings. Good musical tribute to MS Amma.
This is how music evolves with time. It is better to be kept alive with these small changes. Nothing wrong. If more people take it up, we will get few gems like MS.
As an audiophile, I must agree that it sounds soft, soothing and simply great. But this composition was not born to exist that way, was not meant to live as a sublime mellowed stream. This composition was born out of AdiShankaracharya's empathy for human suffering. It is the song of liberation for the soul trapped in the pangs of mortal pain. The element of deep outcry and the deep balmy effect of the ragas both make the soul of the composition. This is a song of pathos and pleasure for the soul at the same time. MS Amma had brought both these elements so beautifully in her voice! That spirit of the composition is missing here. As rightly said, the bhaavaartha is seen to have slipped out of the expression of all the singers. It looks more like a technical demo of the ragas. So does the sanskrit pronuciation. Though managed well, there is something artificial and unnatural about it that knocks out the punch points. Pronunciation is something MS Amma has rendered so clean and strong that all the present day singers have to learn from her. To summarise, melodious, extremely well sounding, but not soulful. 9/10 for sound engineering and technical soundness of the 21 singers; 4/10 for the missed soulful expression. Sorry for being torn between two opposing requirements, but there is more to Bhajagovindam than just music - there is your Spirit and there is Music - and this composition has to bridge the two. Only then can it leave you ecstatic.
Regularly, I hear MS Amma -Bhaja Govindam song. After a long wait, 21 singers presented in a good way and I am getting the same feel. A real tribute to MS amma. Waiting to hear many more songs like this. Thanks all and Happy New Year
