Agreed. The timestamps in the description work but it doesn't add the chapters to the search/scroll bar on the video. Odd thing is that it used to work just fine several months ago.
I did it for one of my videos with the exact instructions but still couldn’t see chapters titles on the progressbar in the video. it works if you click on them in the description though
This is a really great feature. What would be even better is if you can watch the video in the editor tab and siimply click on a marker that automatically adds the timestamp to the description and then prompts to add a title.

Not working for me. Chapters seem to be working randomly for certain users and not for others without clear reasons. Complains about it have been going on for years and we still do not see any solution in near future.
Currently, TH-cam states: “We take a number of factors into account to determine if video chapters will display, such as whether there are timestamps in the description of the video, whether the channel has any active strikes, or if the content could be potentially inappropriate to some viewers.”. TH-cam, can we consider implementing one of the two suggestions: * Allow chapters for all TH-cam users instead of ones that are deemed risky (consider if the pros outweigh the cons over disabling it for other reasons) * Explicit message somewhere on why it was disabled, e.g. your account is deemed risky and thus no chapter codes. This would reduce the confusion and the number of comments/support-tickets that TH-cam receives. It is otherwise not user friendly. Thanks!

(will register) I've tried using ( and ► as the first character too and it didn't register, so possibly you can't use symbol too. I really love this feature but kinda wished that they put a more detailed explanation/guide on it, because I was really confused for a while trying to figure out why some part of my chapters didn't work.

But this will affect the average view duration. Because if someone wants to watch only one chapter, let suppose only 5 minutes from my 20 minutes video. Why not make separate video for each chapters 🤔
Interesting point, maybe it's better without chapters for us creators. But it seems good for the user experience. I guess the answer would be, make more videos like the 5 minutes ppl are watching, and stop doing the other 15 minutes of content, or do it less.
speaking as a viewer, I like timestamps. I am subscribed to Philip DeFranco and he uses timestamps. I'd honestly skip watching his videos if they don't have sections, unless I have some reserved patience and I am really interested in a certain story - in which case I'll still skip most of the video trying to find that one story.

Lions Ground ...uhmmm. This feature was in existence for awhile. Nothing new added by YTube. You can add time stamp as reference point from any portion of the video.

Hi Marlon, From what we have seen, No, not necessarily. Time stamp, You set, is specific to Your Video irregardless of ads. It wouls be nice if that happened accordingly. Would also make it easier to circumvent ads which You don't want. Consequences.
Hey there - ads can be placed separately. The easiest way to insert ad breaks is during the upload flow. Once your SD processing is finished, you’ll see the option to Place Manually. More details here: yt.be/help/pLKM. Hope this helps clarify.

guys if you wait like 1 day the chapters start working it worked for me i did this 00:00 - C2 04:25 - C1 06:47 - C3 10:21 - C4 it wasnt working right away so i decided to just leave it in the description and i came back tomorrow and it was working also do 00:00 not 0:00

I think TH-cam should emphasize this error, because many channels do the steps exactly as suggested and still do not work.

It’s ok, because if you even dare (on mobile devices) triple tap skip 10 seconds it will take you to the next chapter… why? Beats me, youtube just likes to be annoying.

Lions Ground ...uhmmm. This feature was in existence for awhile. Nothing new added by YTube. You can add time stamp as reference point from any portion of the video.

This is some really good information. Quick question for those that are monetized, would this mean that an ad would be place at this time stamps when we choose the automatic placement for ads on our videos?
Hi Marlon, From what we have seen, No, not necessarily. Time stamp, You set, is specific to Your Video irregardless of ads. It wouls be nice if that happened accordingly. Would also make it easier to circumvent ads which You don't want. Consequences.
Hey there - ads can be placed separately. The easiest way to insert ad breaks is during the upload flow. Once your SD processing is finished, you’ll see the option to Place Manually. More details here: yt.be/help/pLKM. Hope this helps clarify.

so i decided to just leave it in the description and i came back tomorrow
and it was working

well I did 0:00 and still works but yeah maybe we have to wait 1 day tho bc it does not work for my smaller channel
