The Google certificate for cybersecurity is fundamental. Cybersecurity is a broad field, and it's important to have knowledge of networking beforehand, otherwise, you might struggle to learn. Many companies are looking for experience in this area. I highly recommend starting by learning A+, Networking, and Security Plus, especially for those transitioning from a non-IT background to cybersecurity. It can be challenging to learn, but these foundational certifications will help you get started.
I've been in the cybersecurity field for 15 years and I can honestly say that this was very informative. I started as a Security Analyst with my Security+ and started to learn more hands-on skills. From there, worked my way up to a Senior Security Engineer. Upskilling yourself is so important and keeping up with your journey to show companies that you are well verse in the field is important as well. Thank you for this video!

Tips from my cybersecurity department lead. You must have Security Plus and CySA. Then CCNA or network plus. Focus on lab practices on security tools such as endpoint detection response. The tools will be the starting role assigned so it helps to know the basic concepts for them. Another skill is interdepartmental communication skills. You must have some transfer skills that you can bring to the interview to get the offer.
As someone with only retail and serving experience this is very overwhelming. Do you have to be incredibly smart in this field or is there hope for me?
@ first you need to decide why you wish to be in this field and if it’s right for you. Best approach is interview a cybersecurity engineer in person and ask what they do daily and examples. This will give you a good feel if this career is right. It’s not for everyone. Example I could be in sales for Dell and make $300k but sales is just not my thing and I know I will not last.
As someone who has both Network+ and Security+ I would definitely recommend doing the Security+ first. For me the Network+ was more difficult and it builds on things you learn in Security+. I don't have a cybersecurity role yet but I currently work in IT. IT isn't a bad career to get started in as you learn the fundamentals before getting into more complicated stuff. If you work in an IT role that involves troubleshooting and working with users, it really helps build your soft skills which are just as important as your technical skills. If you have customer service experience, this would be the perfect career to get into and the pay is decent. You can then branch off into different roles like project management, network administration, and of course cybersecurity. One thing I'll say is if you put in the work and really push yourself, you'll be able to get what you want out of this career.

Here I am as a 43yr old man looking to get into cyber security because I’m tired of working different jobs. I need a rewarding career. Thanks you for the video.
I’m going into a Vocational Training program for Network engineering but giving me certifications for cyber security. I’m going to keep my options open now. Great video thank you
Thanks bro, I will start my way from web developer to security with this roadmap
Thanks for the roadman man!
Im trying to enroll in cyber security boot camp this fall. This is very helpful information! Thanks Ben, you just got a new subscriber 😊
I took one. Awhile ago, huge waste of money. Don’t do it.
@@DanBlabbers what makes you say that?
@@DanBlabbersexplain?
@@DanBlabberswhy not?
@@Lore.818 because it is not 2018-2019 anymore. Bootcamps won't get you hired but degrees will
Looking to change careers after over a decade working in risk management field. Will definitely start these courses
Thanks for the video, i needed this so bad!
Very informative and honest video thanks a lot and keep making videos this way..
This is very crucial information for those who wants to start study cybersecurity.
Im going to do what you said and give you feedback in 6 months Brutha 🙏🏾👑🙏🏾
It's been two months, how's this going?
@ man I’m getting ready to take the asvab for Airforce because I’m 27 and inconsistent. That’s the honest truth feedback king
@@BumpyTreI’m active duty Air Force bro, study for the asvab, get a cyber job in the Air Force don’t let the recruiter trick you into “Open” in any job category!
@@BumpyTre Hey that's cool too though! I did 6 years, the AF offered to pay for all kinds of certifications and training and I kick myself every single day for not taking advantage of that. Good luck!
It’s been 4 months now, how’s it going ?
Great information 🎉
So basically… certification certification certification
Not really, course certification fundamentals certification practitioners certification
You have to start somewhere, cybersecurity is super analytical, you have to learn what you need to do before you can start doing it
Thank you for the great video!
Thank you man
Hi Ben. Thanks for the informative video! 👍. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot!
Appreciate you sir. Thank you for the advice.
Useful advice👍
Im 37 and having to make a career change due to injuries from a motorcycle accident. I have about 14 years experience in security and law enforcement. I was thinking about getting into cyber security and taking the courses. Thanks for the info.
I'm in the same boat with you, 37 years old going from being a firefighter to breaking into CS with no tech experience
What’s up Wilson and Kas! I’m 37 too. I served 7 years in the military, spent 8 years teaching in Shanghai, and did one year in solar sales. I recently passed my A+ certification, but then the school I was attending shut down. I was aiming to get Network+ and Security+ next. Now I’m trying to figure out what to do while I apply for jobs and get more experience.
@@kirh3857 I'm taking Messers security+ right now, the whole course is on TH-cam. Go through that, I think he also has a practice test that I still have to find. If you're still interested, look it up and go from there. I started with Google CS cert, next I'll probably look into CYSA+
37 too. I want cyber security. So confused.
I am same age. do you guys have any update ? Still going with CS?
Very helpful bro. Thanks
Really tryna get set for a future job and a fast paced set lifestyle 😅😅 crazy
Thanks Ben although I couldn’t pass my security 601+ exam, I’m still trying other ways to get in after completing my masters🤣 So these videos help a lot!
SEC+ 701 is easier I failed SEC+ 601 by 50 point studied for 701 and passed by 60 points
Very interesting!
@@myles5253 oh really!! Then I might give the 701+ a chance! How was it?
@@myles5253 how long did u study? Im doing 4 hours a day for a month is enough?
@@Airburn I’m also interested as well because I haven’t started to study yet for this exam
TYSM for this video, I wasnt really sure what was the best way to get my foot through the door that is cybersecurity, this helped me a lot.
I plan on taking the compTIA network+ exam soon, and I am super anxious about it, any tips or advice would be greatly appeciated
yay i started the right way!
So I’m thinking about doing this as well, but I was wondering what your take on doing the Microsoft version instead. I have aspirations of working with data overall business intelligence and then also I wanted to dabble into the cyber security world as well. I was wondering what your take on it would be considering Microsoft suite of products is pretty much the leading software suite
Thanks a lot Ben!
I am restarting my career and I am looking into breaking into cyber security, this is very helpful
Dude you rock! 🎉
Am i the only one who wants to do it because they like computers 😅. I been wanting to do it for yeaaaaars. And im almost 40
Video was straight forward. 30 year old. Leaving automotive industry. Now looking into cyber security. Any tips or more guides.
Thank you bro
As far as the google certification, If you live in NY, Coursera is free through the DOL. Also, Check with your state's DOL if they provide these services for free.
Thank you bro 🙏🏽
I felt like you were talking to my SOUL lololol.
Thank you for all of this help.
Hello
Thanks for the video!
Could you please do a video on CCNA, how important is it and how it helps a person to achieve or land up a job as a entry level network engineer
Hi I'm in my early 40's and tired of noting tie to work everyday! I need a change to make my family proud ❤
Thanks Brother
I joined the Army at 32 as a network communication systems specialist. Im currently in school getting my bachelors of science in cybersecurity paid for 100% by the Army. May gwt my masters once im oit of the Army. The army also pays for any certs you want to get. I already got my security+ cert next ill get my Network+ and im going to get my CCNA. Ill get out with 4 years experience as a network admin. And i will have top level security clearence. Not to mention i get paid to do all this and travel around the world.
Excellent content brother! On my 3rd week of a boot camp cybersecurity here in NJ. Valuable information you are sharing. Thank you! New subscriber gained. 🤝💯
Could I please get the name of the bootcamp? I’m also in NJ
@@saf1999 Definitely! It's NJIT cybersecurity bootcamp. They provide 6 mo & 12 mo options. Cheers!
27 min ago is crazy, thanks for the tips. For me it was either this or SWE, but i didn't want to become a code monkey and code stupid widgets no one will see. Cyber will be boring but its kind of interesting and i know i'll get burnt out, but i think every job ever has burnt out.
Swe seems more interesting to me but less viable job market wise, I think it's important to find something somewhere you can tolerate and separate from on the day to day basis. You don't have to love it, you just don't have to hate it. I burn out everywhere too, I just need to find somewhere that will pay me well enough to make it worth it eventually!
Im trying to get out of America, you guys are tripping 😂😂😂. Yes get your $$$$ but the morals of this country does not match how far you truly can go
Good video g
Good stuff as always... will you plan to take CISSP ? if yes what will be your training materials?
The guy is CERTIFIED 😎
Thanks! I needed this!
This video is very interesting.
Thank you ❤❤❤
I want to have a job in this area and learn fundamental skills as a zero level.
Do you have any videos that go over what is cybersecurity and what all skills do you need for cybersecurity? That you recommend for teenager that interested in this type of field.
Me too, I’m still tryna figure it out…
I found the right person 🙏🏼
Networking Networking Networking 😩😩 Learn that first 💯
How do you learn that?
@ I started with NMap m. That taught me all the different networking protocols. Then from there everything get easier
im 33 and a motorcycle accident just decided that im not doing construction anymore. long story shor im jumping into cyber. pretty nervous. all i got is some home projects under my belts but couple certs coming in 2 weeks and working on my BS in cyber
Awesome man, you got this!
I’m a 50 year old granddad and nearly a 30 year trucker. I know this video is a few months old but hopefully it’s spotted. I honestly don’t know where or how to even get started.
Is this something I could take part time classes online for while on the road 5 days a week? I’m not really in a big hurry. I’ve got the patience to try to tackle the MOUNTAIN of things that I just don’t know or understand.
Just looking for some advice and guidance.
Thank you
You wanna learn about cyber security, I'll leave that in the description below.
I just learned tgat IT & Cybersecurity arent the same. And reading about it is confusing
How would I learn...? I wouldn't jump into certifications before learning basic cubersecurity knowledge and get skills.
That's what I expected to find in this video according to the title : what to learn first, where to learn and where to practice to earn and develop skills.
Or maybe I misunderstood the title maybe ?
Or maybe your advice is from scratch, let's follow microsoft courses to get the first certification you mentioned ?
