'How Global Finance Really Works' by Al is one of the funniest stage performances I've ever seen.
Michael Collins is also the name of a leading figure in the fight for Irish independance against Britain in the early 20th century. In the film called 'Michael Collins' the lead role was played by Liam Neeson. This has nothing to do with the Moon landings but Al threw it in as a side joke.
Al Murray is a remarkable historian, documentary maker. He has numerous university degrees. He I now to be found acting on the stage in London.multitalented.
From Oxford no less.
Al has one History degree via study from Oxford and two honorary degrees, which are great to receive but don't really count (you can't get a job with an honorary degree). He isn't a remarkable historian, he is a remarkable performer. Al has never used his history studies for any purpose other than his comedy and he gets some facts wrong in his routines that are history based. Remarkable historians don't get facts wrong.

He is actually a Historian....I saw him two years ago in my home city of Dundee and his three our gig taught me a lot

I adore Al Murray as the Pub Landlord, I have seen him twice live. While being an amazing historian he was also employed as a sound effects vocalist. But to see him open with audience participation and have recall of it through out the show is incredible. In my top 4 of british comics today

the "as played by Liam neeson "is a gag as he did play a character with the same name as Michael Collins the astronaut a very different bit of history ;)
I saw Al Murray live at my local theatre in April. If you sit in the front rows he will interrogate what you do for living and make jokes about it. He's very hard working. This year he is doing shows at 72 venues across the country, with at least 2 shows per venue.

He had a chat show for a time, and he did interview Buzz Aldrin.
His first ever TV appearance was doing sound effects of different guns, it was a kinda talent show. You'll probably be able to find it on this platform.
There was another Michael Collins who was an Irish rebel leader in a film of the same name, played by actor Liam Neeson. Al Murray makes humour by conflating the 2 Michael Collins, in his reference to Liam Neeson.

If you're into his longer stuff, I recommend "How Global Finance Really Works". He does a lot of silly voices in that one, but his points are pretty good, actually.

Part of the Pub Landlord's backstory is that his wife has left him, leaving him sexually frustrated. One of his catchphrases, used here when talking to the Catholic girl about the condom in her handbag, is, "It's been a year!" He often uses this when the subject of sex crops up.

The beer that he drinks on stage is non alcoholic beer which means the beer has no alcohol in it. Al Murray has a degree from Oxford University and is a very intelligent man who does programmes on TV about history and military history. 💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴💙💛🇺🇦🇺🇦
