    first off you're comparing a very high dollar prime lens and body setup to a much cheaper zoom on a much cheaper body. I would expect the high end system to perform much better when put under scrutiny of 400% zoom. Also of note is that you used f11 on both of these systems. M4/3 system will have significant diffraction softening at f11 due to the much smaller size of the system. Most M4/3 lenses will achieve maximum sharpness 1-2 stops from wide open. Also note that depth of field will be much more shallow on the medium format system at the same f stop. There will likely be about 3 stops difference in depth of field so f4 would be similar to f11 on the medium format system. Your overall conclusion is valid and I enjoyed your video. Really you just compared a Rolls Royce to a Hundai. Both will transport you but one is high end the other is just transportation.

    1 think that not every OM user realized; Olympus/OM system hires raw files don't suit best with Lightroom, the softness is very noticeable compare to processed tiff file from OM workspace. So, I think if you want to compare the hires file out of OM-1, it's best to develop the raw from OM workspace

      Kann sein doch die Arbeit mit dem Programm ist sehr langsam und nicht so klar aufgebaut, man wird nicht so richtig warm mit dem Programm. Ich benutze es deshalb nicht, habe es leider getestet.

    Clive, This was terrific! Over the last 6 months I sold my Sony gear and picked up the OM-1 (mainly for wildlife, grandkids) and X2D (mainly for slower subjects). Love them both for their respective use cases. Had not yet done this comparison. I may have to try this with the 90mm 2.5 and the 45mm 1.2. I'll report back tomorrow.
    Quick question - what L-bracket are you using with the X2D. Trying to find one I like.

      Hi I have subsequently sold my X2D as not being used as much as expected for my type of photography but I do have the 'L' bracket for sale here if you are interested www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145481879369

    If you use om-1 at f11 you hit diffraction hard. Also iso 80 is not giving the best results. Use iso 200 because there you got the best iq. For a fair comparison in my opinion is to set the om-1 at iso 200, f5,6. There is the best. And very, very important thing….please use Capture one and not LR.
    Thanks for the video.

      Hi Clive. Thanks for making the attempt of comparing these two systems. But it's not very informative to do it like this. You compare a medium format to a mft format, but make the mistake to use the same settings. When you stop down the Hasselblad to f 11, you cannot stop down the Olympus to f 11 because of sensor size. To compare you have to stop down the Hasselblad to f 32! In this case f 4.0 or 5.6 the least is equal to f 11 on medium format. That's why the Olympus is softer then it should be. Also a native iso of 200 and expose a little bit brighter is much better on mft.

    Thank you for this. A nice return to reality. I would have thought that using ISO 80 and F8 would put the OM-1 at a disadvantage since the native iso is 200 and that lens resolves more detail at F4. Of course,, neither factor would be enough to explain the difference in detail that you demonstrated.
    May I ask how the the DJI Pocket 3 setup went? Overly complicated or straight forward?

      Hi the DJI Pocket 3 is a wonderful upgrade - so far the only minor grips I have with it is that it needs Face Tracking enabled every time you turn it on. It might be that its got a setting to make this the default but I have not found it yet. BTW - the IQ for video is in another leage - well worth. the cost in my opinion.

    Thanks ! I juste recieved an OM-1 and I have a Phase One CCD generation, 45 and 65 MPix. With a nice set of lenses from wide angle to tele, I''m a old Oly user, and I found a similar impression one have when using OM film series bodies. That would be fun to make a comparaison of the two systems in the same various situaltions.

    This video is shot with Pocket 3? Nice color, better than iPhone! But what mic you use?

    • @CliveTalbuttPhotography
      @CliveTalbuttPhotography  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Pocket 3 uses either the stereo inbuild mics or the external mic - I think I was using the external mic at the time.

    Hi Clive , I saw the back of that box on your mantle and I thought , that looks familiar 😀, and a couple of minutes later confirmed . Fully agree on the P3 if only I could get outside (cyclone blowing through at the moment) and give it some exercise and certainly looking forward to seeing how it preforms inside museums etc which tend to be so dimly lit that while stills are manageable video is less satisfying. The tracking is so good compared to the P2 , its looks like you have a camera person in the room. Inheritances can certainly take the edge of some decisions, we called my mother “techno gran” as at 90 she was fully conversant with her laptop, Iphone, I pad, printer , canon camera and Mr Google so I know she would approve of the gear she’s helped me into 😀

    Interesting. Do you think the difference between the OM1 and X2D is due to the sensor or due to the lens? Is there a way the to differ between the influce of the optics and the sensor/image processing?

      I think most people judging do know - if I pic is nice - who took it and with what doesn’t matter. The difference is who is paying - if commercial the certain criteria have to be met - if not then any pretty image will do.
