- Professional Flagging: Basic Principles, Procedures and Applications - Iowa Department of Transportation 1997 - Video VH-593 - Stressing the responsibility of flaggers for the life-or-death safety of everyone working in or near the work zone, this video illustrates safe flagging procedures to protect the flagger, the work crew, and the public, in many applications. Emphasis is on professionalism and always staying alert, following strict procedure, and using proper traffic control devices that are clean and well-maintained. The video covers flagging equipment, personal protective equipment, environmental considerations, visibility, where to position the flagger, and more.
Don't know if anyone is still notified re new comments on this video but I hope so. I am a new flagger for our (very small) volunteer fire dept and have no formal flagging training. Have watched several videos now but this one was, in my opinion, the best I have seen. Excellent instruction and tips. I now understand at least the basic principles of where to stand and how to control traffic. Thank you very much for this video.
This is a great video for any new flagger, or to be used as a refresher course. As a certified level 1 flagger for 2yrs., i can tell you it that it can be total boredom 1 minute and then total total traffic control the next. It can happen that quick.
Never Never leave your position without being replaced, i did once at the request of a supervisor to help him work and it almost caused a head-on collision. Guess who's fault it would have been? Mine!
Be safe.
I just started 2 weeks ago. Flagging mostly highway. Hardest part is setting up the signs right now
2:45 my heart sank. So true about the professionalism.
i was a supervisor for a flagging company and i know that ive trained over 300 flaggers over the years but we only had the stop slow sign and didnt have stands for them we had to hold them heck one line i used to like was its the car with nothing behind it lol
Thanks.
