Zuko (first episode in ATLA) : I must capture the avatar. Zuko (first appearance in TLOK) : The Avatar must be protected. The Character Development Speaks Volumes.
@@cooper3814I mean that kinda tracks though. A naturally Fire-natured person who has the ability to earthbend I feel would probably be the one to bridge that gap.
You nailed it when you identified the bad guys as the opposite of Team Avatar. They're my favorite villains in this show because they're actually portrayed as friends instead of just allies that have the same goal and might backstab each other and, though we've seen groups of heroes that reflect different bending techniques of basically every age group (kids in the case of Aang and his group in the original show, older teenagers in Korra and her friends, middle-aged people in the children of the original main cast like Tenzin, his siblings and Lin, and even elderly people like the Old Masters who were members of the White Lotus in the original show), we had never really seen a group of benders in their prime like Zaheer and his friends.
The reason for people getting airbending is not explained in detail. The most they give is that it's because of harmonic convergence. But the deeper detail is that the spirit world is made out of energy and that energy centers around balance, which the spirit world has always been without mortal interference, balanced. And so when the world's were connected the energy of the spirit world started to pour into the material world and in spirit energy fashion it tried to balance out the material world, which is why the air benders are coming back and why the vines keep popping up (to rebalance nature).
The first dude is indeed an earthbender, hence why he is locked up in a wooden prison in the middle of the sea(?) to keep him as far away from anything he can bend (earth, rock, metal) as possible. Wouldn't really try that with a firebender.
another thing i love in avatar universe are the prisons. they have to get creative to be able to hold strong benders like these guys. the water bender in the volcano, earth bender in the middle of the ocean with non metal cage. even Zaheer as a normal dude was held in among the mountains. but also goes to show itd be so hard to keep an airbender in check? would really have to hang them by the limps so they cant move at all
@ Yes, but they would have given her the bare minimum. Point being, it was never enough to overpower the guards. Even here, if she had gotten together enough water to do her water arms, I don't know if she would have escaped without Ghazan and Zaheer's help. She probably could have, but it would have been much less certain.
The reason all the airbenders are popping up with harmonic canvergance is all about balance and harmony, ying-yang, and by opening the spirit portal, the original source of the bending powers/energies, this harmony has leaked into the material world, bringing the world back into the balance before the fire nation wars. The world-building lore is pretty nuts. Imagine what other events happened in the history of this world.
there was a female air bender who slammed the door in Tenzin's face (the one that Tenzin tried to sell the comfort of air bender robes to). Plus three or four slammed doors where we don't know if the air bender was male or female.
9:12 “Is this foreshadowing here? They do actually have some escaped convicts?” 11:35 “The truth is…HE’S the outlaw.” See this is why I watch. Unintended oracle moments.
i've never seen any reactors this unphased by zuko literally riding his own dragon lol i mean i get it, they were trying to come up with roku's name but still lol
I met Tenzin yesterday at the grocery store ... honest. He was a new cashier. 🐒 Walked up to the till and there was this young fellow I hadn't seen before so I glanced over at his name tag [I like top address the people at the market by name] and to my surprise it read Tenzin. I commented on the fact he was the first person I had ever met with that name and he said that where he comes from it is a common name. He is apparently from Tibet, and while I have actually met a number of people from Tibet before, this guy was the first Tenzin I have met.🐵
when Korra unlocked the portals, harmonic convergence happened and the spirit world and physical world fused temporarily (the northern lights, vines spreading, weird sky, boosted spirited powers (Jinora) etc.) and all that energy "balanced" the world. airbending being gone is an imbalance, so nature corrected itself by spreading the spiritual energy and in this case, bestowing airbending quite randomly. think of a Thanos snap, but instead of half the world dying, a quarter of the world gets a chance for airbending.
Not so random. It seems to have been particular considering the only non-bender child of an airbender, Bumi, and an Airbender Culture fanboy, Zaheer, got it, it would seem to be those that are more attuned to the element than others. Something to keep in mind is that Air Nomad culture revolved around Airbending so non-benders were sent out into the world to grow up in the other nations so a lot of people have airbender blood in them to some degree. The specifics are never clarified since this is supposed to be abstract, but there's a lot that would too coincidental without some rhyme or reason.
i wonder if someone had already made art about an AU Where Zaheer and his gang are the ones who raised Korra instead had they been successful in kidnapping her
This is something from an interview or behind the scenes stuff of ATLA (I forgot where exactly, was consuming every ATLA stuff as it was airing new episodes from ~2005), that wasn't really mentioned or explained on the show: There is always the same number of benders in every nation. E.g.: The Earth Kingdom may have the largest population, but only a small portion are Earth Benders; The Air Nomads (before everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked) were few but all of them were Air Benders. I guess the new Benders appearing is this universe's way of balancing that, with the Harmonic Conversion as a catalyst.
Kazaam (I think that's his name) is a lava Bender, a subspaciality of Earthbending, like Sandbending. Hecan do everything a normal eartbender do (just like metalbenders), plus control magma and heat rocks until they become lava. Pretty powerful skill, if you ask me. Small detail: did you notice that the waterbender has no arms? She uses water tentacles as replacements.
Kiyoshi's mother had lost some of her airbending abilities after leaving the air tempels while the Air Nomad population bascially had a 100% bender ratio because of their spirituality. My headcanon is that the people who got air bending are the decsendents of the Air Nomads, with Harmonic Convergence making up for the lost culture and spirituality of the people to bring everything back into balance.
There’s a cool theory that the ppl that got air bending are descendants from airbenders, and a dormant gene awoke due to the events of book 2 and the portals being left open as not all airbenders have kids with other airbenders so its very possible, just look a bumi
Actually Zuko will die in episode 20 in the legend of Bumi directed by Christopher Nolan Do you guys still remember that episode?? That was intense as hell
Love your reactions but i reallywish you guys would show a little more of the video, we can barely see anything at all 95% of the time. It is really disappointing. I understand copyright, but the reactions are so see through sometimes that it is practically just audio 😔

Code Geass when?
Zuko (first episode in ATLA) : I must capture the avatar.
Zuko (first appearance in TLOK) : The Avatar must be protected.
The Character Development Speaks Volumes.
Zuko episode 1atla: wake my uncle!
Zuko atla season 3: *kneels in waiting all night*
That is my recurring comment across the reactsphere for this episode.
"That's all he gets, a couple of rocks?" and the surprise lava-bending that followed was the funniest part. lol
I can see why my friend said this channel is cringe. This chicks voice and attitude is utterly obnoxious.
@EastGhostINC she's actually really cool.
@EastGhostINC You control the buttons you touch
The Legend of Korra season 3 is awesome💯🔥
defo the best
FAX, Story is better, characters are better and animation is better again almost on book 1 level at times. Peak season!
Azula’s voice actor returns as Ming Hua!
Lava Benders are earth benders. Lava bending is rare and aside from past avatars, not many are able to do it.
The crazy thing is that it was invented by a fire nation Avatar
@@cooper3814I mean that kinda tracks though. A naturally Fire-natured person who has the ability to earthbend I feel would probably be the one to bridge that gap.
@ that is exactly my Logic to how Bolin can do it
@@cooper3814 Well originally it was an avatar only ability mixing fire with earth, but they changed that for Korra I guess.
@@GoldenLeafsMoviesnah there was a avatar before setzo that did it so korra ain’t really change nothing

yeah but it's weird to me that Ming Hua wasn't sweating being in the middle of a volcano
@@Aidzik she built different😂
@@Aidzik To be fair, she was probably severely dehydrated in that prison. They couldn't exactly give her gallons of water to drink.
@@ZaberFangAT she had to drink something tho or she would simply die, there is no way she never dropped a few sweat drops

the writers cooked so hard with season 3 villains

all the og cast reveal/cameos gets me giddy every time.
You know the "egg" on a pedestal in "Firebending Masters" episode in ATLA? that's the dragon.

Lava bending, another sub skill of earth bending.
14:15 HOW DARE YOU GUYS!? WHAT ABOUT VARRICK!?
16:50 Well, he is retired. His daughter is the Fire Lord now, so Zuko just does what he wants
The way I screamed 😭😭
Nice reaction!
My Goat has arrived
Zuko 🔥
Ange getting flashback of full metal alchemist with this kid XD
Zaheer's team is awesome, not gonna lie.
New element revealed 🌋
Urm actually 🤓☝ We saw Kyoshi and Roku using lava bending before.
*sub-element
@@Luky.73setzo too😂
What are you saying rn dude 😂
New bending , not new element , and Roku and kyoshi lava bended multiple times in avatar
Can't wait for more because this book is just so good! The book gets only better and better

Roshi and them too
notice how the dragon is a different species from the ones in the first series? its just fun to see there's hope for them
wait. how so?

Wth is that

RIP Zuko, I remember how much I was tearing up because of that scene
I know your lying but still not cool
Not sure this came out as more than a throwaway line, but Zuko IS retired as firelord. The current Fire Lord is his daughter Izumi.
Isn't Zuko too old to be driving? When did he renew his dragon license? At least his eyesight seems to be fine.
