What the puck :/ Subaru is all scratched up because he forced his way into the tomb that’s rejecting him due to him losing the qualification to do the trual
That goodbye between Emilia and Puck got my eyes stinging. I don't think Puck is gone, at least not completely. Still, a very bitter and sweet moment between the two.
Subaru is hurt and in pain here because he came into the tomb despite not having the qualifications for it... he forced his way in... but they are not completely in, which is why the trial has not started yet for emilia...
4:37 Starting over means losing the bet, though. Subaru said he'll save everyone in this loop, leaving behind his only power (Return by Death). Roswaal knowing Subaru's ability but still agreeing to the bet means he's confident that his next self will benefit if Subaru has to restart.
The AniNews channel in youtube has an indepth description of what we missed in the second season from the novels that explains a lot of the confusing things happening... it has info on why the witches reacted as they did when the Witch of envy came in... they explain the difference between "Satella" and "the witch of envy" though that was mostly skipped in the firts season though it is touched uppon in the witches tea party... They explain a bit more about what it is puck did... A lot more things make sense in the novel and it is covered on those videos...
Something that people should pay attention here is that Emilia is extremely powerful, much more than what we have seen in the anime but it was somewhat shown in the OVA. Things to keep in mind: - Emilia has two sources of power: Herself and the spirits with whom she has a contract with. - Usually, Emilia only uses the spirits ( Puck or lesser spirits ) because she is unable to control her own power ( as seen in the OVA ). - Puck's contract allows her to use his power when needed. Puck, also, helps her keep her mental stability by, basically, preventing her from accessing any bad memories from her past. That allowed her to move out of the forest because she no longer had to concern herself with accidentally killing innocent people by going berserk. - By breaking the contract, Puck is allowing Emilia to confront her past and move forward. This has the huge risk of her going crazy and destroying the world (again?!?), but to Puck that matters very little since she is his only concern, anyway.
I think back in the frozen memories we got that contract... i mean it is called FROZEN MEMORIES Puck was also being cryptic back then telling stuff about his contract and memories... but i gues it was never fully explained back then either...
