This film is gaining significant attention. The full film is truly remarkable. I hope the director's efforts receive the recognition they deserve and that this wonderful work reaches wider audiences soon. It runs 19'30, but due to festival regulations (15 minutes max), only this teaser is officially available for now. Feel free to leave your messages for the director in the comments!
This teaser is fantastic and the full film must be available to the public. We are anxiously awaiting to see it and I'd be happy to support it. Where is the best place to get updates? This was before my time but I know that late 80s to early 90s was peak F1.
I'm Canadian. A buddy and mine flew over to the U.K. to see a Thruxton British Touring Car race on a "budget" in 96. We stayed at a B & B a few miles from the track. On the day of the race we were walking down a sideroad heading towards the track when a van stopped to give us a lift. I hopped in the back and the driver introduced himself as Martin. We both hopped out of the van and looked at each other...Holy S$%# that was Martin Donnelly. He owned a junior team in formula cars and invited us into his pit area. What a gentleman.
Martin is a real hero. We met him as LOTUS fans during driving school in Hethel. I have never seen anyone drive like Mr. Donnelly. We had one professional driver among us and after driving Mr. Donnelly as a passenger, Martin said that he is slower than his 88 year old mother going to TESCO on Sunday. 🙂 Then he gave him the taxi ride in a Lotus Evora to drive like a Lotus should... The level of driving was impossible.
I met Martin at Silverstone during the British GP weekend, after he’d had this crash. I got to have a brief chat with him and got his autograph. I shook his hand and told him how great it was to see him.
A living legend thanks the Prof - my wife never forgotten the day Martin took her out for a demo run for the Evora launch - cold and wet day - she had to change gear (when told) because his leg was seizing up , whilst asking her for ideas for his wife’s birthday present - a great guy definitely no quitter-
Martin’s story is incredible. I remember his rise through the lower formulae through the pages of Autosport. The accident itself was truly horrific and the image of his motionless body in the middle of the circuit will live with me forever. I hope the film gets released in its entirety so that everyone is able to hear Martin’s story in his own words.
I cannot wait to watch this. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Martin a few times. The most notable at the Macau GP where he was partaking in a support race. Left to broil in his car in the assembly area I provided water and a leaf blower to alleviate climate related suffering 😂
I met Martin in the mid 90's at a touring car race, a lot of people were walking past him as I can only assume nobody recognised him, apart from me. I briefly said "Hello Martin" smiled, I was acknowledged and I went on my way.
The only time that I have seen an historic 'big banger' CanAm car (or any other historic) driven properly was Martin at Donington Park nearly 30 years ago in a McLaren M8. It was special.
Had the pleasure to meet him once before the accident A lovely guy , great racer , might not have got his dream of becoming WC but A true winner to over come the accident
What a terrible accident! It was just not his time. An efficient medical team and a lot of resilience saved him. I wish him to live as long as possible.
Remember this. To this day it is unbelievable he was alive. His body was a twisted mess of bones and organs. Limbs jutting out in the wrong directions, him just lying motionless. Nobody thought he was alive.
I can't wait to see this, This incident really shook me when I saw it in the Senna (2010) film and I've always wanted to know how he overcame such a horrific accident.
A great talent truncated by an accident. Brits had some great prospects severely hampered by huge accidents. Johnny Herbert especially and Martin Donnelly were very much the real deal before their huge accidents
Two points...Did Watkins was amazing across his career, second...I watched this twice as i only realised that THAT was Martin Donnelly. I thought it was an actor/dramatisation...I always thought he had passed due to the accident ever since I was a youngster. Wow.
1:39 it's taken on the fast chicane, after 30 seconds the crash happened I am 100% sure there's the video of the actual crash, hidden somewhere in a VHS. Lotus 102 the best looking car of 1990
I was watching the monitors as the local feed came on-line at the circuit and, may God forgive, I said “please don’t let it be Derek”, whom I had known for a while . . .
This was a time when drivers actually drove there cars, and changed there own gears, with 1 hand, yes really they steered with 1 hand and changed gears with the other, proper drivers,
And the required heel and toe downshifting made it more interesting in the braking zones. Now everyone brakes 100% perfectly thanks to all the technology whereas in those days there might be 1% or 2% difference in drivers braking due to the far higher complexities involved.

2 legends of the sport.
Martin Donnelley and professorSid Watkins

Biggest shunt I have seen. How he survived is a total miracle.
Thanks, you thought me a new word (“shunt”)!
Martin and Kenny brack are the two craziest accidents I’ve ever seen
@@tannerburke13Kubica, Blundell, Alonso, Grosjean should join that club...
I'm so glad you're here to tell your story Martin
Surviving that crash was a miracle. Living on after it, a far greater miracle ❤

He said the Lambo V12 in his Lotus 102 was all noise and no go.

Maximum respect for someone who gets back to it !
It's amazing how they had their shoulders hanging out of the car back then like it's a go kart
One of the reasons they could drive closely without crashing into each other every five minutes. They could actually see!

I still remember this accident, it was horrific, I am glad you made it .
尊敬します。勇気と誇りを、ありがとう。

This looks absolutely brilliant, I had always wondered where he'd got to, great video, thanks for this.

Met him at a Lotus event and had a good long chat, he's got some funny stories. 👍

one of the most horrendous accidents I've ever seen. a testament to the work and dedication of Dr. Sid Watkins. To see MD driving again is inspiring
3:37 that photo 😳 🙏
He must’ve had a guardian angel over him that day how the hell did he survive? That a miracle?❤
Had the pleasure to meet him once before the accident

He was lucky to survive that.

it brings chills to my spine to even think about it.
Emotional and inspiring, the man is a legend
Looks great and can’t wait. Donnelly is a legend and it’s great he survived.
I remember his win in Macau, Mr Juicy. What a Legend.
one of the best days of my life 3 laps of Snetterton with MD in a new Lotus 211. Amazing
amazing video… Hero❤️

You had an Angel by your side that day Martin. God spared you for a reason. You're the toughest Irishman I've ever seen and that's a fact.
If only the Angel and god had stopped the accident from ever happening, allowing Martin a full career.
@@jdoe9518you learn a lot about yourself and new outlooks on life when you are at low points, I’m sure he found silver linings in the dark clouds. 💯
Prof Watkins saved his life, not God, show respect where it's deserved. And don't give me any BS that God put the Prof at the racetrack.
@@jdoe9518 Yes, God spared him, by crushing his body and mental health, also ripping his dream away from him. The delusion is strong.
Amazing guy.
All I can say is wow, simply amazing. I remember this accident.
Wow❤
This looks amazing, such an inspiration.
What a hero. God speed Martin
Ciao Martin! 💪💪
in Italia ti ricordiamo con affetto 💖
🇮🇹 🇬🇧
Martin, nasceu de novo
Grande vencedor !
When is it released?
Racers are a different breed because that accident was more brutal than anything I’ve seen
Where can I see this documentary
What a legend
Lotus legend ❤
A great talent truncated by an accident. Brits had some great prospects severely hampered by huge accidents. Johnny Herbert especially and Martin Donnelly were very much the real deal before their huge accidents
Absolutely spot on! Those two guys would have led the 'home' charge throughout the 90s in F1

*Sid Watkins
wow, looking forward to watch it
Incredible Martin, unlucked Champion.
There footage of the crash uploaded anywhere?
When and where can I see the full version of this documentary?
Incredible his body survived that
❤❤❤❤❤
Lucky man that day
Cool
Would have been multiple F1 Champion
Excelente material 👏🏼
The safety of the cars and tacks came too late and at the expense of some of the greatest drivers of all time.
Damn shame.
what a racer.. deepest respect.. :O
Where can we watch the full version?
+1
Horrifying crash. This crash was way worse than ayrton sennas crash. Strong man and strong spirit donnelly. God bless you
So basically no one knows where you can watch it?

Lotus 102 the best looking car of 1990
A lot of footage, cars, and photos from 90 was intentionally destroyed to prevent bad marketing of the sport
Umm..."best looking"? Isn't this a mistake for "best horrifying"?💧
Debería traducirce al español 😢
puedes poner los subtítulos en "traducir automáticamente" y seleccionar español
God bless them all but especially Sid Watkins.
I thought he was dead also the first time I saw the crash.
I was watching the monitors as the local feed came on-line at the circuit and, may God forgive, I said “please don’t let it be Derek”, whom I had known for a while . . .
Truly dreadful accident.
Jesus how is he alive?
Luck of the Irish!
😮
God bless Sid Watkins
