Question from a hobbyist seamstress - why do you sew the seams on a sewing machine first before serging them after - surely just serging them does both jobs in one? Thanks for another informative video for making this funky summer dress in one of my favourite colours! I'm also thinking this in a red/rust/brown pincord would make a great autumn dress 😍 🍂
@@Thistlevixen heyy. Im also not a professional, but this has something to do with the kind of fabric. Woven fabrics like linen or jeans have to be sewn like this, while a seam with a serger is enough for knitwear.
I’ve been watching sewing videos for years, and I can safely say that you’re my favourite channel now. Very clear and concise with great tips and tricks. I don’t really need your pattern for this, but I’m going to buy it anyway because your stuff is so damn good.
This video was so so so helpful! I was struggling with the hem at the bottom of a dress that I’m working on, and your explanation made it very simple. Thanks🧡
I love this so much I’ll be getting a sewing machine soon after years of not having one, and definitely purchasing this pattern to make this dress after I give birth soon! Thanks for the helpful tutorial
you know what i hate about this???!! is the fact that i’m only discovering your channel now 😭 it’s just what i’ve been looking for since a long time and my yt recommendations came thru- just saying i’m a new subscriber now 😙✌️
I made this dress!! It's going to be worn for my 21st birthday and throughout summer in general ☀️. The outer material is a really pretty white linen with coloured flower prints. It was see-through on its own so I added a cotton lining. I am 99% sure I messed up how I was supposed to do the facing band but it turned out looking how it was meant to anyway somehow 🤷♀️. Being a novice and having only sewn one other dress before it took me days to complete (and a few times I worked on it for a good 10-12 hours in a row, only stopping for lunch and dinner. But it was well worth it. I was also able to do the project by myself without any assistance because the instructions were clear (sooo much better than commercial paper patterns which are a nightmare). I would usually read the instructions I printed out from the booklet we get given when purchasing the pattern, and then refer back to this video to double check I was doing everything right). I needed very little alterations to fit me perfectly which was amazing (and very simple to do). Just before adding the zip I removed 3.5cm fabric from down the centre back on each side so that it was a tighter fit, swapped out the regular straps for bow tie straps using instructions from a web blog, and lengthened the skirt to add 7cm.
I’m watching everything I can to make sure I get it right. I’ve done a ton of sewing over the years, and I’ve always just freehanded things and it worked. However, now that one of my daughters (the 8 year old) is drawing out clothes designs all the time and wants to make her own stuff. I need to make sure I’m telling her the right names and correct way of doing things. We went today and got her a ton of fabrics so that she can start her journey. I guess she’s tired of making things out of paper, tape, grocery bags, and my old clothes 😂. She wants to step her game up. Trust and believe we will be watching more of your videos.
So I moved from California to Italy..all our belongings will not get here until mid July…and all I want to do is move in my new house..just so I can make clothes from all the patterns I’m collecting from you!! Gahhh!! I’m determined to find some amazing premium green velvet here in Italy! 😩😩😩 You are an incredible teacher!! Thank you for all your inspiration 💛✨💜 and you’re hilarious 😂 Lots of love from 🌞 San Diego, California 🛫 Napoli, Italia 🇮🇹 💖👑
This is really gorgeous. I've done a fair share of sewing but it always helps to have someone explain the specifics of the pattern! Also your makeup is so pretty in this video!
Bought the pattern and made this and I absolutely love how it turned out!!! Pretty easy over all and the video was super helpful. The neckline was a little tricky for me but it ended up looking great. Highly recommend anyone give it a shot!
omg this is so cute. I would love to make this for myself, but i have quite a big difference between my bust and waist measurements that patterns for bodice's like these never cater to me (luckily the hip difference wouldnt be an issue in this case though)
I’ve been looking for a nice summer dress pattern for so long, I have a cute white cotton fabric with tiny pink flowers & this would be perfect 😍 thank you so much for this tutorial I can’t wait to make it!!
To make this dress knee length you just need to make the skirt part of the pattern longer at the widest part without changing the angle of the line, just continue the lines, add however much length you need for your leg length and then follow the instructions as you would the shorter version.
so glad i found this video! i need some summer dresses for vacation and this is the exact style i love :D never made any clothes before beside crocheting but this tutorial makes it seem so straightforward!
I have so many of your patterns favorited on Etsy, but I wish they were in my size. I’m not really skilled at sizing up patterns just yet. I’m really glad I found your channel though! I had a vision of a dress just like this but with a straight midi skirt so maybe I can attempt to drape on myself?!
you're videos are great, you explain everything so clearly! I started sewing beacause of you, I'm loving it but I'm not much good at the moment 😅 I hope one day I will be able to do one of your beautiful patterns justice ❤ ❤ thanks for your work !
Wow it's beautiful ❤🥺 I made a the same dress with puff sleeves but as I used cotton fabric I had prblm 🙂but this time I will try to make it like yours 😍😍😍
how you recommend to finish the dress if i hacked the pattern into having shirred back piece? (i find it more comfortable for fitted garments) would i still have the zipper in the middle? side or just leave out the zipper? thanks a lot😍 designs are simple but adorable i see it cute as a top too 😆
So glad i found your channel, cant wait to follow along to all your videos! As far as the notices go, what are they used for? Also what are other ways to finish seams if you dont have a serger?
The horse hair thing is really interesting I never thought of sewing it to the [hem] (i don't know how to spell). The result is so beautiful ! If there are some french seamstress in the comments, what is it called in french please ? Ruban en crin ?
Wow amazing dress. I really like this video.your cutting and stitching very nice sister 🙏.you are very talented. this is look very beautiful. May God bless you....... always 😊💞💞😊🙏🙏🙏
My daughter wants me to sew this dress for her for homecoming. She is wanting to add some beading to the bodice so I am considering lining dress to keep a smooth feel while wearing the dress. Do you think that would work or would it make the top feel too bulky? Thanks
Is it possible to make a circle dress without a waistband? Just continuous with the top and bottom? Basically merging the concept of circle skirt with dress to where each of the two connecting sides of the dress have “half” of the circle “skirt”.
Increase the diameter of the circle. Follow the straight sides of the skirt pieces and increase them the same amount on the bottom. Then connect those the best you can following the old edge but with a constant difference of the amount you want to ad. It's complicated to explain whithout pictures but very easy to do
Hi! I cut the pattern out and was reviewing the directions before I cut into fabric. I noticed a comment about the skirt being cut on the bias. Are all the pieces cut on the bias or just the skirt? Thanks!
😅 This is my first time sewing and reading patterns. How do I pick the size when I have 3 different ones. Like waist is 87cm, hips is 96cm, and bust is 91cm. 😅 😊
I am kind of sad that a lot of videos of things i want to make involve a serger. I'm sure theres away to do this without sergers but as a beginner idk how that's done. i'm definitely going to keep this dress in mind for the future though when i learn more. it's so cute and i'd actually love to make it just a tad but longer! it's gorgeous!
I also don't own a serger, but there are ways you can work around that. Look up french seams, they're not too difficult and will allow you to finish the inner seams. Good luck!

@@user-lea Ah I see, presumably sewing it normally first sets the seam in place so it doesn't get stretched as it goes through the serger - thank you!
Have I ever made a dress before? No. Am I going to attempt to make this? Absolutely.
Good luck! 😁😁

Do you think this dress works for beginners, and what if your bust is bigger than your waist?
I keep breaking my machines because i get the tension wrong. How do you know what tension to use?
My only tip is to do tests. Save a piece of your fabric and try the difference tensions starting from the middle (4-5) good luck it's quite tricky
What should I do to make the skirt bigger
