I first happened upon your lovely videos that are primarily about how you rescued Khanyisa, but I have stayed to watch them all. Your work there is tremendous. How fulfilling it must be. Seeing these gentle giants up close is quite an experience even though it is only through your camera. But let me congratulate you on how well made these videos are. I search for things to view during this pandemic to remind me that life, beautiful life, is still happening out past my window. Your loving interactions with the elephants are certainly filling my heart and soul and making me smile. Like Mr. Wolf (below) I too am retired and living on a pension. It breaks my heart that I cannot contribute financially to your amazing work but rest assured that I support you in every other way. I'll pass on your videos to others so that we can all enjoy them together. Oh and I must say that little Khanyisa is adorable but ALL of the herd is quite beautiful My heart fluttered when Somopane approached you so closely. He is magnificent!

The way she runs to them in the morning with such love, excitement, and anticipation, I really have no words for something that pure and wonderful in the entire world. And how they see her coming and welcome her warmly every time. This is something I think humans truly never will know. Beyond special, I am so grateful to be alive in a world where these moments can be captured and hopefully maintained for years to come. *ALSO did you notice that little head dance Lundi did just before baby got there??? I LOVE WHEN ELE'S DO THIS!!! It's almost like when a dogs whole body shakes with it's tail when greeting you, it is SO FULL OF JOY AND LOVE!
What a remarkable experience you, your workers, and the Herd are having. If I may be so bold, I think you could write a book about these almost unheard of experiences...quite a lot of what you have accomplished seems to fly in the face of what most elephant "experts" think they understand about the African Elephant...and gladly so! Your elephant are proving there's so very much more to how elephant interact, such broader and deeper acceptance and, well...even compassion shown between them. Of course we all know Khanyisa is the catalyst here! Thank you. I'm approaching 75 now, and living on a pension so my income is scant; however, if there's some way I might be able on occasion to send you funds for a couple big sacks of peanuts for treats for your herd would such be possible? How can we private message each other about this?

i'll be 73 soon and i'm loving and enjoying these loving elephants like you are. there are almost no words to describe the vibes and love these gentle magnificent beings put thru the video to us. i know this little albino baby girl is here to teach the world about what it should be like, not the power mongers or dictators or con artists and cruel ppl. they will someday be a thing of the past. I'm praying hard for all to heal with this covid. Godslove and blessings to all. Another day in the adventures of Baby Khanyisa and the Jabulani Herd. How precious to see her excitement as she runs to greet them and how Lundi moved towards her. So much progress. Well done!
And not a single dislike! The preciousness is out of control! Klaserie loves the baby! Look at how patient they are with her trying to suckle!? These beings are so altruistic that, if they had milk, they would probably allow her to suckle!
Love that!! :-) We haven't seen a dislike yet - though maybe we wish them away anyway! :-) They are actually allowing her to suckle - but just no milk comes out. We are waiting with milk bottle just after they have this meeting. New post coming just now!

Khanysia is so brave and her confidence is amazing. She stood right under those two big bulls like it was nothing. What a remarkable beautiful little girl she is. I'm sure her mama knows how quick she is too learn and she will teach her all she knows about being an Elephant. I just love this family!*
After watching all these videos of Khanyisa up to the current time, then rewatching these introductions to the herd. I now see the significance of this interaction with the dominant male. Beautiful and powerful.

I was going to ask if she was albino because she's not a newborn anymore and she's got pink eyes. Then this video ended & the next video talks about an albino calf being adopted. That answered my question, and off I go to watch it.

It’s so amazing how careful and gentle they are around her. One wrong step and she could be injured. The more I see how elephants interact with each other the more I am in awe of them. @@melaD333 My pleasure! At HERD i hear that they generally speak Afrikaans. Most South Africans are bilingual. As a white African person, my home language is English; Afrikaans is my 2nd language. We have 11 official languages in South Africa (this is the number of different ethnic groups in South Africa). Our black African people can amazingly speak up to 5 or 6 official languages. All South Africans have a 'home' language (mother tongue) followed by any other language that has been self-taught throughout the years. Schools post-apartheid have introduced black African languages for all scholars. And so now white Africans learn languages thru school whereas other ethnic groups have already learned languages thru mixing with other groups and speaking it in their communities. Children picked up the languages. Very interesting country that i live in ☺
I never saw this one. Somopane is absolutely incredible in his demeanor with khanysia. He seems to realize she wants to nurse, and although he can't accommodate her, he stands and even puts his leg a little forward for her. Somopane is absolutely an intelligent and truism elephant. Besides that he's beautiful.

This has to be one of my favorite videos. It’s so much fun to see it again, now that I’m more familiar with everyone. Klasierie being so protective, then playful...Khanyisa going from one to another....lots of trunk activity here...the gentleness...the incredible expertise they use in stripping the stalks of their leaves!...and little Khanyisa with her tiny trunk....Xander hugging her & rubbing her belly is JUST what I’m sure every viewer longs to do! I so loved watching this again. Also reading Frank’s generous & beautifully written comment. I’m his age, and taking care of my husband since his TraumaticBrainInjury 12 years ago. We, too, are squeaking by onSS, or I’d be sending regular donations! He is failing now, so I have Hospice assistance. Your videos are welcome respite from this sorrow...I play videos for him on the flatscreen, over the mantle, so on Sundays I put yours on in the afternoons. He loves the peacefulness of them. He can’t speak any more, but groans his approval! It’s a joy to lie next to his hospital bed and tell him their names & sometimes call his attention to what’s going on, if he’s drifting. (He was a cartoonist. I’m sorry he can no longer draw...I’d have asked him to send you a drawing of Khanyisa. .a departure from his Zap Comix characters!) I am so impressed with this channel. Just by watching. I have learned that smell is a huge part of an elephants life. Even smelling can be seen as offensive to an elelphant
I love how the adults would be always take up a defensive perimeter around her when she joins them, every one of them willing to protect and defend the little one
Unfortunately not, she won't as she is on contraception, like the rest of the herd, as we do not aim to breed the herd. However, it does give Khanyisa great comfort in the action, and we always provide milk directly shortly after the interaction. we will continue to supply her milk until she is weaned at the age of around 4 - 5
I adore watching her running out towards the herd! Those little legs have so much power: and my how giant the big elephant seems in comparison to Khanyisa 😌

I only know that meisje klein is tiny girl in Dutch. My guess is that it is something similar in Afrikaans.
What is being said is an Afrikaans word for 'girl child' - meisiekind. We South Africans use the word when we refer to any small girl child

I am so impressed with this channel. Just by watching. I have learned that smell is a huge part of an elephants life. Even smelling can be seen as offensive to an elelphant

Has Lundi started to produce milk?
Unfortunately not, she won't as she is on contraception, like the rest of the herd, as we do not aim to breed the herd. However, it does give Khanyisa great comfort in the action, and we always provide milk directly shortly after the interaction. we will continue to supply her milk until she is weaned at the age of around 4 - 5
