    Very informative video for a DIY installing can lights, or retro fit existing lights. I do have an existing "new construction" can light, but wish to install another light about three foot away and wish to piggy back the electrical hookup off the existing can light. It's going to be hard I know as must cut plastered celiling. Any suggestions? (It's on first floor so no attic above to access original light.)

  • @BIGNickHenry

    I’ve got the old super hot recessed lights, but they are mounted in the ceiling without a box. They just have a metal shielding around them with a bulb outlet clipped into the top. Question is because there already is that bulb screw outlet if I can just put the remodel can in there and run the LED wire out of the can to the bulb screw outlet. Need the can so the new LED ones have somewhere for the spring drops to attach too.

    I am replacing the existing CFL can lights in my kitchen. If I use the remodel can, once I insert it into the ceiling opening, I will not have access to the junction box because this is a two story house and the fixtures I am replacing are on the bottom floor and I have no attic. Can I wire it up before I stick the can into the ceiling, otherwise, the junction box will be inaccessible.

    I guess the person who installed my recess lighting MacGyver'd the cans so that I don't have any hooks at the holes, but I have screws at the botton. Nor do I have torsion spring retainers. It is a 4" can I believe... when I measured the inside, it's actually 4.75" approx... slightly under 5. They used a 4" light and when I measured the light, it was 4". damn. I guess I gotta figure out my own mount...

  • @erval9

    • @rory5693

      It wouldn’t be possible without cutting the sheetrock, or it would at least be very difficult because they are designed to be nailed in from below when there is no sheetrock.

    Thanks for the upload. Quick question, if I am installing 6 recessed lights in my living room, can I install them on the same light light switch and on a 30 Amp breaker?
    Thanks brother.

    • @chriscraft77022
      @chriscraft77022  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      those lights pull low amps... you will be good ... just use LEDs .. 30 amps??? you need 10 gauge wire for that breaker!! what color is the wire for the lights? you should not have a 30amp breaker for lights... white wire is 15amps... yellow 20 amps

    • @JoJo-oo7zt
      @JoJo-oo7zt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Craft I think I was looking at the rating on the breaker but I will double check. Maybe I was looking at the washer / dryer which is also mislabeled.
      It’s an old house and most of the wiring only have two wires for Live and Neutral. I will double check in the tiny attic and see what I have.

  • @ZacharyMorris-si6et

    I keep getting moisture building up inside the housing where the trim and drywall meet. I took a look inside and the foam gasket was never installed on any of the lights. I have ordered and installed the missing foam gasket and caulked around where the drywall and light housing meet but still continue you to get moisture build up. It is all blown in insulation in my attic. Any recommendations on how to resolve this issue. The main one I am concerned with is below my ac unit in the attic and basically have no attic access to it

    • @chriscraft77022

    Those are LED lights you used for the remodel kit, how would it get so hot that you start a fire inside the joist? That retrofit-can is overkill for the led lights, nowadays you don't even need to use it, instead you just use a j-box to install the led fixture as LED's run so much cooler then your traditional incandescent light bulb. Obviously you can't use the particular LED light you used but there are other types that fit the dimensions of a regular junction box.

    • @chriscraft77022

      “recessed lighting” is the title of the video.. the bulbs I used have nothing to do with the point... I was just showing what I decided to use...
