    I wish I'd seen this review before I bought mine.
    Like you, I've had exactly the same problems with it not cutting square - in fact I thought the problem was me! The biggest fault I've found with it is the fence moving around at the 'free' end. It's awful.
    I've had this for about six months and I'm thinking about returning it as not fit for purpose.

    Having exactly the same issues with exactly the same table, except it's being sold under the brandname PowerPlus (the Netherlands). Can't say if the motor is the same (which is doing well basically), but the table is absolutely the same, with all it's flaws. I replaced the insert and made a better fitting slider for the crosscut bar. Still looking for a replacement for the side bar though.
    A thing you did not mention was the flatness of the table. Both side tables were a little to high on the outside ends and could not be lowered. I adjusted the construction to make it perfectly flat.
    So after a lot of work the table is doing fine, but I wish I had noticed your review first :-).

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yes this saw is rather disappointing even for an entry level diyer's saw. I was going to make a new insert plate for mine, but in the end I just decided to sell the saw on. The table on mine was really flat, so didn't have an issue there. One thing that did help was to make a table saw sledge.

  • @TheOldcoder
    @TheOldcoder 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've had mine since April this year and I found the fence solid when locked down, although I wish it was full length. I use an aluminum bar clamp for longer pieces. You are right about the sliding miter gauge - useless. Also, I found I had to really force the blade angle to get 90 degrees. I keep tripping up over the front stabilizer bars. But I have done a lot of DIY with it and its so much easier to cut with this than a jigsaw which was all I had before. I wanted the RAGE version but was £100 more. I've made a cross-cut sled for accurate cuts. Its ok for DIY.

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, I found the fence was solid for about 6 - 8 months, then when I was cutting a large piece of plywood I noticed it had moved 3mm from front to back, then it continued to get worse. I put it down to the clamp part wearing. I made a cross cut sled also, which replaced the mitre gauge. But, I have the Rage 5s now, what an improvement that is, in my opinion its worth the extra money, just for the fence and the sliding panel. I did also recently review that saw.

  • @vloggfrogs1739

    A good honest review , the fence is basically useless , the measure tape is inaccurate, and the crosscut sled poorly fits and wobbles, motor is great blade is ok , otherwise this machine really is not fit for purpose, I have had this saw for 3 years, I removed the fence , legs and striped it down and mounted the body in a custom built work bench and built my own fence and cross cut sled after only using it for 3 months to make it usable , but out of the box it is useless and i would recommend using the money and getting a track saw instead

    wish I'd seen this before I bought. I did exactly the same thing, bought a rage mitre saw (really love it) and the circular saw (one of the best I've owned) so thought the table saw would be good too. The fence is atrocious, so much so that I've removed it completely and use a price of box steel now. The extension wings keep moving no matter how many times I align and tighten. You are correct with it being the same carcass. I owned a scheppach (bought a few years ago as my first table saw for £125.00 off amazon) and thought I'd upgrade a little to the rage. The outer carcass and frame are exactly the same! In retrospect I wouldn't buy this and would use my circular saw while I saved up for a dewalt (which is what I'm currently doing). Great vid by the way 👏👏👏👏👏👏

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's unfortunate that the saw has all these issues, but because the motor I found to have good power. I did think of buying better upgrades for it before selling it. I do have the evolution rage 5s table saw, which is a fsr superior saw then this one.

    I almost bought this. Glad I didn't I paid a little extra for the einell tc-ts 2225 for £200 and is possibly the cheapest one I've seen with a fence which clips on both sides. I havent used it much yet but the results so far have been amazing. The only problem with it is it has a shite metre gauge (like this one) plenty of play so I may buy something which would work better! I simply can't go out an buy an expensive one and especially what I want it for. Great video regardless! I just dont get why they bring these products out and not come with a fence which goes all the way to the end......

    Thank you for your video. It was brilliant review. I didn't know EVOLUTION would do a such generic products and claiming as their own products. All this time I thought they were a particular brand. I was wrong. I should have seen your review first before buying this table saw EVOLUTION RAGE 5-S. The problem you've shown are correct. Even my one (the guide) doesn't move freely like your one. It should have been one end to the other, so that it would give cutting measurement same all the way.

    I agree with this review, but I think it was worth the money I paid. I addressed the issues James has highlighted by making my own table inserts and a couple of cross cut sleds. As for the wobbly fence, if I am looking for accuracy, I clamp it down at the back of the table as well as the front.

      You are quite right, it is not a professional users tool. Something i have been concerned about recently is the blade provided with the M/c quotes a max speed of 2750 rpm where-as the M/c runs at 3250 rpm. I know it runs slower than some saws to allow it to cope with nails and metal etc. But, whats going on ? I would expect the figures on blade and M/c to match up.

    • @JamesManCave

    I own the titan/screwfix version of this saw and I tell you the blade guard, fence, and throat plate are vastly superior. The fence is as solid as can be (0 drift, very strong adjustable lockdown) and adjustable length for various indeed and outfeed requirements, no only that but the fence is covered in T track allowing you to mount your own attachments suck as indeed rollers and fence extensions. The blade guard provides much better coverage of the blade and is very easy to add or remove with just a spring loaded pin holding it to the riving knife. The throat playe is very sturdy but obviously if you desire 0 clearance you can make your own plate

Its got a metal insert plate with is 1000x better than that one but falls a bit short of being nice and flush with the table top. Made my own fence from a plank of pine and two clamps. Also took off the extenders as getting them exactly lined up for level is a pain. Agree with all the other comments. Been in the market for a new table saw. Like you, have been impressed with the mitre saws evolution makes. For the price point of this table saw, was fully expecting the fence wobble even before you got to that point in the video. I think that cross cut fence is too 'plasicky' as well. If only they could spend another $50 on production costs in improving these aspects, you could have a decent little diy table saw for those handful of projects through the year. As the adage goes, you get what you pay for. Thanks for posting mate...

      Not problem, I was quite disappointed in this saw when I came to use it. However, the next saw up that evolution produce (rage5 s) is a much better performing table saw, it has a sliding panel which works really well, and both sides slide out giving it a much wider table.

  • @brianthomson8224

    I agree with your comments, I've berated Evolution guys at trade shows for the poor construction.
    You didn't mention the guide slots - they are some weird size - not the standard 3/4 inch T-Slot, just channels spot welded under the table top.
    The motor doesn't soft start - my Evolution mitre saw does - would it really add much to the price?
    The fence is appalling, I've made up a full-depth fence by stacking plywood enclosing the aluminium support, I've bolted a length of extruded T-Track to the back of the table, and have two Woodpecker mitre clamps running in that: once the fence is aligned, two quick twists and its not going anywhere.
    The biggest issue for me though is the blade alignment, when I got it, the blade was nowhere near parallel to the guide slots - 3 millimetres difference between the font and back. The only way to adjust it is to loosen the four screws around the plastic guard, jam a screwdriver in at the top and pull one way, tighten one screw then jam the screwdriver in the near end and lever the other way, tighten the other three. Now I can trim off 0.5 mm slivers from the work piece. I've also added some 50x50 extensions to the legs, I found it was about 120mm too low, and I'm not that tall - 5 foot ten (I know - mixing units).
    They make a big thing of being able to cut wood, steel aluminium etc with one blade. Its not made of Mythril - cut a piece of steel and your wood cuts wont be clean any more.
    Oh and people complain about the frame - when assembling it, put some Locktite thread locking compound on the machine screws - then they wont shake loose.
    In summary - the old adage is true - buy cheap, buy twice.

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that's a comment! Yes I agree the whole construction of the saw needs a rethink. I didn't mention the slot, as I made a sledge for it so I was happy to use that in the slots and didn't have another need for them. Have you tried contacting evolution via there website about the problems? I've dealt with them quite a bit now, and they really like to know about your experiences with there tools and any upgrades you have made to them.

      @@JamesManCave I've enjoyed so many woodworking videos on utoob I've been thinking about doing one myself - how I "fixed" it. I also have some comments about the mitre saw - the dust management is a joke, and its LOUD - screaming metal, much worse than others I've heard. Excellent review James. The one thing you didn’t say is that the blade guard prevents you from cutting thin material without having the blade disproportionately high...Their own instructions recommend having the blade set at 1/8th inch over the height of the material being cut, but this jams anything less than 3/4” high at this tolerance... it’s a really bad design flaw, which to my knowledge they have never done anything about. Anyone know any mods other than taking the guard off?

    I bought the same saw from Aldi £89.99...sorry. Also my insert plate is much better by the looks of it, it’s metal with a single flush screw holding it in place. I was really worried about my fence before it arrive, so far it’s really stiff but I don’t see that lasting. I think I will end up getting a better third party fence. I’ve only just got it and I haven’t checked my arbour size, but I do want some kerf blades, a standard and thin. I don’t know if you mentioned your motor size but mine is 2kw.

    The Titan doesn't have rack and pinion angle adjustment either, it's sloppy and wildly inaccurate.
    To be honest no matter how bad you think that evolution saw is, the Titan is far far worse :)

      @@JamesManCave cool! I'm definitely going to go ahead with my purchase, thanks a million for your reply, it has made my decision easier.
      My only doubt has been the 25.4mm bore for blades! As I've already built a collecting of blades with 30mm bore

      I bought a 60t blade, and used that on there. I didn't have an issue with it cutting anything, the issue is around the rest of the poor construction of the saw. I no longer have it, and evolution sent me the much better site table saw

      @@JamesManCavei don't use the foot of this table for the first day and make some tuning on the guide and some others shit directly so i'm happy with that product. You get what you've payed, Bosch make more better products but the Price is not the same... When you buy that kind of products, you know you need to make something for have a good satisfaction.

      @@JamesManCave no pain no gain, i'm ok, when you buy it, it's à piece of shit but if you do what is needed you can make some good job with that shit (for a better cost than buy à Bosch product), if you didn't need some precision material.

      No problem, if you still want an evolution table saw, then I do recommend the rage 5s, it's a much better saw
