    I can relate to Amberto's love of the Lincoln Mark series... I have wanted a Mark III since I was 16 years old. 43 years later ( 6 months ago ) I finally got one...
    1969 Mark III

      I had a Town Car when i was a teenager, i traded it in and REGRETTED it ever since. I bought another just like it earlier this year. I had almost forgot how great a ride they are.

    we had this edition as a kid and it was a massive beast and I loved it, truly an end of an era, but I love tacky big cars driving them not as much but these machines were one of a kind.

    Total production of all 1979 Continental Mark Vs was 75,939 with the Bill Blass Edition having a production run of 6720. List price of that edition with the Carriage Roof was $2775. Most people think that edition only came with the Carriage Roof but a full white vinyl roof with opera window was also available with a price of $1809. This example has Midnight Blue leather but White leather with blue carpeting and instrument panel was also available. The 460 V-8 was discontinued for 1979 and the 400 V-8 was detuned to only 159 Horsepower. The rarest special edition Mark Vs for 1979 were the Pucci Edition with a production of 763, the Collector's Series in Diamond Blue with only 197, and the Collector's Series in Silver with only 125. Midnight Blue and White were much more common exterior colors for the 1979 Collector's Series. Values for the 1979 Mark V are typically lower than for a 1977 or 1978 Mark V...mostly because the more desirable 460 V-8 had been discontinued. The Mark V offered a staggering variety in exterior color, upholstery, and trim. Production over the three model years was 228,862 so many still remain. My personal favorite Mark V is the Dove Gray 1977 Cartier Edition. The actor John Houseman introduced a white 1977 Mark V in a television commercial. The actor Tom Selleck was in print ads for the 1979 Mark V Collector's Series in Midnight Blue. Cartier (the CEO), Givenchy, Pucci, and Bill Blass (the men themselves) also appeared in print ads and television commercials....each receiving a royalty per vehicle sold. Opera windows with the script of those designers are expensive to replace as is the automatic headlight dimmer.

      Ford should have up-graded the 400 V8 used in the 79 mark V. Even adding a 4bbl carb and dual exhaust would not have been too cost prohibitive and might have helped the fuel economy. Oher than the engine, a very nice car.

    • @SpockvsMcCoy
      @SpockvsMcCoy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@briansearles4473 Upgrades like that would likely not pass EPA requirements. By 1979 Lincoln customers wanted a quiet cruiser and didn't care about performance.

      Car insurance is probably very low if it's registered as a classic car. Here in New York a car can be registered as a classic once it turns more than 25 years old and I believe that's the same for Illinois. My '73 Thunderbird costs about $280 per year and most people I have talked to pay less than that.

    • @1955Cal
      @1955Cal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually just insured a 1979 Lincoln Mark V St Tropez pickup through Geico's classic insurance for $100. for the year. I was shocked and pleased it was so low.

    The different wood is from the Diamond Jubilee and Collector's Series cars. The gold colored grill and the metal trim on the engine vents is also from the Collector's Series.
    They had the Miles to Empty option available in 1978 as well. The electronic radio option was new for 1979.

    Looks just like one I bought from the original owner about 15 years ago. Complete with blue interior, CB, and carriage roof. And crappy sounding exhaust note, too! Also had a one-previous-owner '72 Continental sedan that also sounded like that. When you saw these Lincolns back in the day, everyone knew what they were. Now, it's hard to tell a Lincoln from a Kia. Beautiful car!

    Hey Lou, You tickled my Funny Bone with these Mark V’s Signature Series Lincoln’s. I always have my eyes open for one of these and I see them but they are so far away and I would have to have them shipped which is fine but the other issue is LENGTH and garages not being able to handle them. But I would love a Diamond Jubilee Edition or something like this. Love the color coated rims. PERFECT. I was on the show room Floor in 1980 when these were left overs and the MARK VI were selling for over $20K And could of picked up these beautiful Mark V’s for $14K as a left over. But remember, GAS HOG??!!

    Love the car, had a 75 Mk IV, this one is beautiful, carriage top covers the porthole windows, these cars are high maintenance, electrical nightmares, but if I got it dialed in properly, nothing in the world rides or drives like it, need to spend 120,000 on a S550 to have a ride like that, also about that tape, I'm a married father of one, and I had that tape too, Macho Man, 1978, keep dancin kid

    I remember getting catalogs from FML back in the late 1970s and configuring out my dream Mark V. I always liked the BB edition but preferred the 77-78 with the opera windows and all midnight blue paint scheme. Really nice looking cars except for the steering wheel. It's a shame FoMoCo put so much effort into the style and then at the last minute mugged an LTD for the steering wheel and radio.

    That car is so clean looking! One question I have is, does the clock keep running even when the car is off? I couldn't tell if the key was turned so it was idle or not. (I'm not too car savvy to lingo)

      All older cars have a longer checklist at tune up time whereas modern cars only require spark plug replacement. However as long as you do proper tune up on these classics they will run like new for a long time. Today's cars will not be on the road 50 years from now. But there are thousands of cars from the 70's still on the road today. Modern cars are cookie cutters and built as a disposable recycling material.

      Hi david mcgrath, Glad you're enjoying the Channel. Is you're Grand Marquis a 2 door or a 4 door? I rarely do 4 doors, however a few have made it to the Channel, however there is usually a amazing story. The Mustang CS with a 390 with a 4 speed sounds like a winner. I'll be at Carlisle PA for the Ford Nationals this year 6/1-6/2. Hope to see you there, and hope you have a great day too, Lou
