Omgosh!!! Thank you SO much for this. I've been fiddling with this for a year, trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Like yours, my knife holder wasn't at 15° and I didn't know how to adjust it. Your video was the perfect tutorial. Now all my knives are razor sharp, if not more. Thank you, thank you, thank you 😙🤌(chef's kiss)!!!
I saw your comment on a different fideo about this, I'm glad you made this video explaining this. Thank you for putting the effort in to helping other people tweak this product to make it work better
With a couple of very easy and cheap tweaks these Ruixin sharpeners are the best bang for your buck you’ll find for sharpening. I’ve had one and I now have a few Toohr that are also great value for money at around £50/$65. The only reason I gave the Ruixin to my friend was the Toohr (having 2 clamps) is better for sharpening longer knifes, it also has fine adjustment of angle which is very useful.
Just bought one, they actually supplied 4 slivers of plastic to go in the area this gentleman has highlighted which is good. maybe they've seen his video.
Right out of the box I realized that the angles on either side were different and it's the problem that most of these sharpening systems have is getting the clamping mechanism just right to keep you true. Hopefully your technique will work for me. Thanks
If by chance you find the problem gets worse when following these directions try applying the tape strips in front of the screws instead of behind them. Some have reported that worked for them.
@@DrHavok1 Think mine is still one degree out. Getting kinda frustrated trying to get it perfect. Might just use it for general purpose and when it really counts use my edge pro.
It has nothing to do with the thickness of the knife. It's about keeping the same angle when flipping the knife. Which is where this sharpener falls short straight from the factory.
Do you think that possibly the plastic washers will compress over time and change the angle that was corrected? Maybe metal washers would be a better choice and wouldn't compress as much.
@Brian Erwin The thin strips of tape have to be placed either in front of or behind the screws (depending on which way the knife holder is off) so that probably wouldn't work. But good thought any way.
I used the protractor on the flat of the cleaver I was sharpening at the time. You can see it in the companion video which I have a link for here in the comments. Thanks
I have the same problems..mine offset 2 degrees..so painful to watch my knifes got different Bevel degree..I still don't understand what u do to fix it..can u make a new video explains how u do it from a-z?
Yes, I needed about 4 strips stacked. Of course yours could differ or even need the tape placed in front of the screw holes instead of behind them as mine did.
Same issue her 0.80 degrees different between both sides Sorry to told you I do what you did but the difference increased to 1.2 degrees May be my faults, but when adding tape the difference increased not comes less that's means something wrong
@BEANS Would love to hear from others if this simple fix worked for them. At 0.80 you may need only a single layer of tape to bring it to 15/15 degrees center. Thanks
@ Beans: In that case it sounds as if your knife holder is off in the opposite direction then mine was. I'd suggest try putting the tape in front of the 2 screw holes instead of behind them and see if that works. th-cam.com/video/8OwBz_4wVJU/w-d-xo.html
I did. There is a link to the video showing more detail here. Note: Depending on which direction your knife holder is off you may need to put tape in front of the screws instead of behind them.
Yes you certainly could bend the metal. I would just bend the bottom plate using a vise. The thing is to first determine which way it needs to be bent and then bend it evenly.
@@jeffdavis6100 China does not care about the quality of anything they sell to the U.S., no liability at all. If they used the same quality with their own stuff, their planes would be falling out of the sky, and they entire Navy would have sunk.
@ Tim Reed You've totally misunderstood what this video is all about. If only it were that simple. Either you have never used one of these sharpeners or you are just one of the lucky ones who got a unit that came set at the correct angle of 15 deg. (on the knife holder) from the factory. Or the 3rd possibility that you have been sharpening knifes to a different angle on both sides of the blade without realizing it.

I would never have thought of checking the trueness of that bottom plate. Thanks!

Your angle fix works a treat. BRILLIANT !!!!!!! many thanks.
Thanks for this video. I haven't received mine yet but was worried after hearing about the manufacturing defect. This pits my mind at ease.
Hey mate thank you for the time and effort. You have saved me a lot of time with this video.

That was helpful…thanx.
Just got mine and it's out 1 full degree.
Gonna try this out. Thank you.

Mine was also at least one degree difference on opposite side
@@DrHavok1 Think mine is still one degree out. Getting kinda frustrated trying to get it perfect. Might just use it for general purpose and when it really counts use my edge pro.
I’m closer to 4 degrees. Still f ing with it.
Thank you, brother
love you for this video. even have feelings for you :) you saved the day.
Do you have to add or subtract the number of electrical tape for different thickness of knives?
It has nothing to do with the thickness of the knife. It's about keeping the same angle when flipping the knife. Which is where this sharpener falls short straight from the factory.
I got this kind of problem. I will try this. Tq for your sharing. Thumbs up!
I think its pronounced more like "ray-shin" or "ray-sheen." ru-ee-sheen
Just ordered one thanks for all the tips!
Thank you for your time sir

I am 100% new to knife sharpening, how and where exactly do I use the protractor to measure the angle? Thank you
I used the protractor on the flat of the cleaver I was sharpening at the time. You can see it in the companion video which I have a link for here in the comments. Thanks

Thank you I will try this
I think you'll find a little electrical tape and 15 mins. time will be well worth it. Let us know how it worked for you. Thanks
what is the phone app you use instead of a protractor?
The app "Bubble Level, Sprite Level NixGame Tools works just fine. Just downloaded it myself.

I hold my knives at the right angle as I'm tightening and that seems to keep it true
aluminum foil would be a better material to use as shims
Couldn't you just take the knife out and flip it over so you can keep the same angle degree.?

Why doesn’t the manufacturer own up to the defect and send everyone the correct replacement part?

Definitely not how you set the angle. The angle is set by how high you put the swivel on the vertical bar
