  • The best quiet portable air conditioners are also the best rated portable air conditioners overall:
    1. LG LP1419IVSM - amzn.to/2PUO8zZ

In this video we evaluate portable air conditioner noise output. Is there really such a thing as a quiet portable AC? What is the real noise output difference between different models on the market? What is the difference between different size (capacity) units on the market?

I google for days, litterly, last summer. I learnt everything about all most types of systems and models whos jobs is to cool a room, ordering stuff in both sweden and germany.
And everything he is saying, I came down to the same conclusion, that no mather which one you buy you're simply going to have the noise present with todays(2020) air conditioners. Simple as that!

not rly, some models like the dreo twincool seem to be like 45-55db, and that is much lower than normal 64db sounds

I like how he didn't bother measuring how loud or quiet they are when you can get a decibel noise app to measure it for you. They all do have their noise profiles. What's worse, he automatically make the assumption they're all loud without looking at how inverter air conditioners slow down to a lower compressor power, fan speed to regulate the temperature. It is a big difference! My older portable AC for the living room (we have a horizontally sliding window) was making 67 decibels enough to turn up to TV volume from regularly 20 up to 30 (about 50% louder). Our newer inverter portable AC is not only saving us electricity, but it also is much quieter. On full blast, the danby branded inverter AC from Costco is making fan noise at 55 decibels and once it has regulated the temperature, it can go as low as 42 decibels upon reaching its target temperature (as long as the outside air was within 15 degree delta of the set temperature). We can watch the TV again back at 20 volume as if we're unaffected by the portable AC's noise.

Ya in one of his other videos he said the inverter style are just as loud as the non inverter. That may be true at full speed, compressor going full speed, but what about sleep modes that ramp down the compressor and fan vs the hard start and on/off of normal air conditioners.
This guy basically said they are all the same so who cares yet I hear and see reviews all the time saying they are quieter. Even his fan speed vs compressor noise comment a few minutes in. He makes no mention of the slower compressor speeds at lower fan speeds available. Like his comment on the LG dual inverter always making the same compressor noise no matter what…are ramping compressor speeds not the main selling point of these inverter units? So how can he claim they are all the same?

I have a portable air conditioner named Electriq that was described as a silent unit. I wish I had come across this video before my purchase as my knowledge of AC’s was nominal at the point of sale. I put my trust in the seller’s claim of silence and i am now stuck with what sounds like freight train running next to my desk.

I have an old SPT WA-9000e portable AC that's never been used for almost 10 years. We usually have let other family members borrow it. I decided to put it in my little 120 cu.ft. room, and it's awesome! The compressor is even soothing to listen to. It's great when I have my computer or TV running, because they heat the room up fast and make the central 4 ton unit work too often. Hopefully it improves the electric bill in any way.

First of all noise is subjective and everyone hears noise differently. I prefer the sound of the compressor over the sound of the fan not everyone uses the air conditioner on high fan speed, I never do. I always use low and sometimes medium you’re not getting any extra cooling out of the high fan speed and it’s making the most intrusive noise blocking out TV sound, compressor noise does not interfere with vocals as much as fan noise does

@@lorenbeuke9494 That's the problem. There's no solution yet. I'm sure manufacturers can make a "silent" unit (inverter units, etc) but either they're too expensive to manufacture or they're simply testing the waters with portable AC market first before pouring more money into the R&D.

Honestly the lg inverter ac is pretty quiet for me. And I always usually use low speed. It keeps my room comfortable in moderate hot conditions. High will be too much unless it’s a heat wave.

    • @AlexanndreL

@@abrasionthermals9172 I'm no fridge expert, but I would guess that the compressor in the fridge doesn't have to run as often and doesn't have to be as powerful. It's much easier to cool down a small well insulated fridge than it is your entire room. Additionally, the condenser in your fridge would only run occasionally in order to maintain the desired temperature and then turn off the rest of the time.

I have a Sharp CV-P12LX and an LG LP1015WNR. Both on high fan, the Sharp is dead quiet, and the LG makes an obnoxious racket. Not only is the LG compressor ridiculously loud, the blower fan is really loud - instead of a whooshing sound, it is a mechanical whine - and a loud one at that. I wish Sharp would make their air conditioners again. I really want to dump this LG.
