I was on a number of medications for various aches and pains including Osteoarthritis and severe gout. Taking daily Allopurinol literally changed my life, it's now the only medication I need to take, no more nightmare getting moving in the morning, no general aches and pains or inflammation, and more importantly, a normal diet and no crippling flareups...
So far so good for me. I can eat what I want with no gout flareups. That is great. I will try to eat a more healthy diet. Allopurinol has done the trick. Modern medicine is wonderful.
Thank you 🙏🏽 will do. Is it similar to doctor Sebis book? A holistic approach is what I was looking for.. Ive had this medicine for 2 months and I don’t want to take it
Thank you for taking your time to do this for us. What I am looking for is an explanation of what the medicine is actually going to do to my body physically, after 5 days of taking it I have had a big flare up in an effected area, this lasted a day and seems to be settling down today...
I was prescribed Colchicine with Allopurinol to prevent gout attacks. I'm not thrilled about the upset stomach it gives me, but it's either that or excruciating pain in my joints
Thank you Dr so much I find this video so helpful. I have a question (much more a concern) my dad is taking a 100mg alupirinol for 1 year and half (getting blood test and ALT,AST,ALT test)and and I am so worried about the side effects of this medicine on his liver in long time... Is it dangerous for liver or can this medicine cause any harms on liver? Does he need to do any other test or monitoring?
I have read many books, I listened to many TH-cam videos by many of the worlds leading gurus and health experts but nothing came close to the hidden herbs by anette ray. I recommend everyone giving it a read.
I’ve had my first gout attack ever, has not gone away (lingering in big toe) does not hurt to walk anymore but when flexing big toe still feels like it’a inflamed. I have not taken allopurinol because my rheumatologist said not to take it during an attack, does this still count as an attack when it’s lingering? My podiatrist said to take allopurinol asap and I gave her my concerns that the rheumatologist said and she said to try it for a week I don’t know what to do
Also should I stop drinking until this lingering goes away or for 6 months or what - it’s been 5 weeks no alcohol and I’m 26 so I’m definitely questioning if I can just have a beer or not.
It is recommended to not start Allopurinol during an attack. Instead, you should be taking a steroid pack. It kills the attack. You need to reduce inflammation in your body. You are consuming shit food and need to reduce your caloric intake to combat this. I have a lot of experience in gout management. Start by reducing your daily caloric intake to 2,000 calories per day. You should lose body fat. Measure your weight while you do this. Once you stop losing, reduce your daily caloric intake by another 500 calories. You should notice you start to losing body fat again. This reduces inflammation which is what causes your attacks. Go to the frozen food section in your grocery store if you’re use to eating only fast food. Look for the blue bags by Voila! They are stove top meals of veggies, noodles, and meat. You get a lot of food with these and not overblowing your calories.
@@georgekillian2852i admit im a drinker too. I have found that beer triggers attacks more than spirits or wine with me personally. Read my recommendation above and cut out beer. Maybe try vodka and cranberry juice. Cranberry juice is a natural anti inflammatory! Try your red wines and neat whiskeys. PS: I found that any Corona beer use to highly raise my chances of an attack.
You didn’t mention it is a leading cause of dress syndrome, usually caused by starting with too heavy a dose before tapering up, that syndrone has a 10% fatality rated & is otherwise living hell.
Cannot take this because it makes me sick so I take prednisone. Also take febuxostat Daily to stop the flag ups but does not work all the time. I try and watch what I eat but still get gout so I just about to give up. Drink plenty of water . Very frustrating!
You said Allopurinol should not be taken during a Gout flare up. My problem is that first time I started to take allopurinol, my gout flared up. Should I stop immediately or should I continue to take the second dose? I don’t know if it was due to the fact that I was like 12 hours late when taking my second dose or the dosage my doctor prescribed me was inappropriate? It seems a very tricky process to start and stop allopurinol. Can you provide more instructions regarding that?
@@damazsta usually depend on how bad your gout level, my doctor prescribe me 300mg for 3 months, after that i only take it when i know starting to get the symptom again, and when eating gout inducing food
I dont know who needs to hear this, but i have a lot of experience with gout management. I havent had an attack in over a year using Allopurinol as well as lifestyle changes. Im 6’ 230lbs. I would describe myself as chubby athletic. I train in martial arts and can average 10 minute mile jogs for four miles at a time. I drink heavily once a week and my diet is pretty poor. I have found that skipping a meal a day reduces inflammation of the body very well. Try to consume 1200-2000 calories a day while measuring those effects on your weight. My first week i lost 10 lbs by just limiting myself to a 2,000 calorie daily intake. I needed to move to 1200 calories a day after that to continue losing fat. This will greatly help reduce inflammation and help prevent gout attacks when paired with Allopurinol.
Starting allopurinol during an acute gout attack is not recommended because it can worsen or prolong the flare-up due to changes in uric acid levels. The focus during an attack should be on managing pain and inflammation, with allopurinol introduced or resumed afterward for long-term management.
Thank you so much for watching the video and taking time to leave a comment. Unfortunately (and I know this will be frustrating for you), I am unable to give individual medical advice out on this channel. This is because of medico-legal reasons, not knowing your full case, circumstances, and it would be unethical of me to do so otherwise. I have included the general resources I used to make this video in the description box but I have to advise that you speak to your own health provider (e.g. doctor, nurse) so that they can properly assess your case. This is the safest and most ethical advice I can give since this is just intended as a general educational resource. Thanks for understanding.
Allopurinol is not suitable for certain individuals of Chinese, Thai, or Korean descent because of the increased risk of developing severe allergic reactions linked to the HLA-B*5801 genetic marker. Genetic testing is recommended before initiating allopurinol in these populations to prevent potentially life-threatening side effects.
Should a doctor run some tests for kidney/liver function before prescribing Allopurinol? The nurse practitioner of rheumatology I met this morning prescribed Allopurinol based on the fact that I had numerous gout flare-ups recently and uric acid level of 10 back in 2019. I expected some tests to be run before treatment proceeded because I haven't had a physical in about three years...surprised it wasn't. Is this common practice?

@Craig Jones I'm obviously expecting too much from doctors, or a nurse practitioner in this case. I'm just taken aback she wanted to put me on two different medications for life without running some tests. After my encounter with her I cleaned up my diet, lost about 15 pounds and doing well so far.
