    It’s hard to portray how good Modric is. He’s like a puppet master, has everyone on strings. He has full control over the game. I’ve watched him play for over a decade and I’m sure he loses possession of the ball once a year.

    You're right, a midfielder needs to be well-rounded and have good fitness. In possession of the ball they are often the transition from defense to attack, and off the ball they are usually breaking up play or the middle-line press. The game is controlled in the midfield and often the game is dictated by the midfield.

      Central Midfielders aren’t always box-to-box. Modric is more of a Deep-Lying-Playmaker (or Orchestra Midfielder); so he builds from the back, but he’s not much of a tackler, and he doesn’t spend much time on the edge of the oppositions box either. His partner Toni Kroos is more of a box-to-box Centre Mid

      @@davehornet8574 granted, he still has 11 goals/assists this season so far (at 36). In Addition, his defensive contribution is superb as well (not much of a tackler as u said, altho he was when he was younger) but he’s brilliant positionally in defense, and his biggest asset is his ability to predict opponent’s passing lines and intercept them very regularly (best in his team at this aspect). Then there’s the aspects u spoke of. He’s by far the most complete mid i’ve ever seen play, brilliant in every part of the game.

    f you got a complete midfielder in the middle of the pitch, it feels like you always have one player more than the opponent, a pretty good example on the defensive side is ngolo kante - you should react to him, he covers the whole pitch it's crazy. The most complete midfielder right now is probably the german Joshua Kimmich, he can do everything and that at an elite level, also plays for one of the best teams in the world (bayern munich)

Search first touch in football and go try it out on a field one day. That’s just one example of skills which look simple on footage.

It takes some skill to execute it and make it happen. You gotta pay good attention to it, to understand it, how that pass being made. Curl shot in the air that finds his team mate.

    There are 3types of midfielders
    1. ATTACKING
    2. CENTRAL
    3. DEFENSIVE
    Usually a good Attacking Midfielder can also play as a CENTRAL midfielder. And a good Defensive midfielder can play as a central midfielder or sometimes a Centre-back defender.
    And when under attack, the defenders line up to set an OFF SIDE TRAP. They create a line across. They raise their hands to signal/protest to the referee/assistant that its an offside. Of course, whether it's an offside or not, it's not their decision to make.

    • @jacksmith4460
      @jacksmith4460 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say there is another type, the Playmaker, a deep lying one would be Pirlo, a more advanced one would be Riquelme, in the case of Riquelme and number10's they are attacking mids, but you can be an attacking mid and not be a number 10, Pirlo is not an attacking mid, but also not a box to box player/complete mid.
      I dunno maybe these should be sub sections of your 3 types, but for me a play maker does not have to be complete, they have to be pure passing machines (and maybe have dribbling skill if a number 10) so they are not strictly the same as central or attacking mids. Maybe I am being too pedantic

    Even with this video, it did not do him justice. He does crazier passes than those. To answer your question on whether those plays from the passes are pre planned. They are not, every great midfielder has to have a great vision and read the field to find the gap in defense. This is not easy to pull off. Luka is without a doubt one of the greatest midfielder ever set foot on the pitch. Which is an equivalent to a hall of famer you can deduce easily.

  • @jorgeruizibanez2318

    These kind of midfielders are the soul of a team, they are in charge of the creation, offensive passes, defend, pick the ball, and are also the pace of the team.
    Not always over the spotlight but you must have it on a team, Luka modric can have an avrlergare rate of 95%passes succès full in one game, through that you have the possesion, and play offensive and defensive at your will so you rule the game... Trough them, all start... They are also the right hand of the coach, more involved in the strategic plan for the game than others.

    Brilliant thing about them is their Low Center of Gravity that makes them have that extra sauce when it comes to controlling the ball.
    That gives them the extra edge of making the last split second to beat a player where they let them make the 1st move.

    As someone from Croatia, the country Luka is from, I can say we couldnt be prouder of him. The day he retires from the national team, which could possibly be after the World cup 2022 , will be the saddest day ever. He is the best player (and we had/have awesome players) we ever had and I believe future generations will have a hard time to surpass him. He is the greatest role model, the most humble human being and it is a joy to watch him play.
    He is a magician on the pitch. There are people who underestimate him because he doesnt scores as much as Ronaldo and Messi, but that isnt his role anyway. He knows how to play the game, how to read it...he is at the right place at the right time ...he creates chances for his teammates....etc etc. He is the full package I would say.
    Also besides Srna (another national team player - well retired now) Luka is the best captain ever.

  • @quieness
    @quieness 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I think the middle of the field is the most "varied" in terms of types. There are like defensive mids, like for example Casemiro (in Real Madrid since like 2013), focused on disruption when the enemy gets the ball; there are these more "central" midfielders, usually more focused on dicating the phase of the game and transitioning the ball from behind to the front (Modric and Kroos fro example); there are these "box-to-box" types, that are also a type of midfielder, but more physically strong, they usually run more with the ball themselves, go up and down (Like Paul Pogba for example); and then there is attacking midfielders, that usually move around between the midfielder and the strikers.
    Usually this last position traditionally known as "The 10" cus is the common shirt for them, these are the dudes with the dribbles and flashy moves, they 1v1 and break defenses and make key passes to the forwards or score themselves (so guys like Ronaldinho, Hazard, Maradona, Özil, Bruno Fernandez, etc etc). There is also a position on the sides of the midfield, basically the same thing as a winger, but with more defensive responsibility; though this position has been less used in these past,.... idk 15 years? This is common if your team is 1(keeper) 4 - 4 -2. But the past decade is more common to see 1 - 4 - 3 - 3 (an example of these interior midfielders that comes to mind would be Deco, Figo, Ryan Giggs, Ze Roberto, Joe Cole, etc etc)

    The true definition of the midfield metronome aligned with incredible skills. Take him out of that Real Madrid team and unlikely they win any of their 5 recent Champions Leagues.

    You guys are right about the midfielders having to be good at everything and playing both offense and defense. Also you’re right about formations. Teams have offensive and defensive formations that they set up in throughout the game.

    Cristiano Ronaldo plays both wing and striker , at real madrid and juve he played winger cause those teams had a proper number 9 ( striker ) but right now he plays striker at Man utd
    A midfielder is the person who should have good ball possession to help the team change pace from defense to attack and he releases the passes and basically keep possession because there are alot of people in the middle than any other position , so they have to be good with keeping the ball

    C.Ronaldo is originally a winger but due to age now he play mostly as a striker/center forward…it’s easier cause he makes less runs and he’s closer to the goal that way he can focus on what he does better than anyone else (scoring)

    Yeah they do have a certain defence and offence strategy. There are 10 outfield players, so common formations are 4-4-2, 5-3-2, 4-3-3, in order of defence, midfield and attack. In these 3 groups there are many positions, and types of positions which is basically the players style.
    A right back could be a more attacking wing back that might favour a 4-3-3 or a 5-3-2 so they've got that extra protection (in 4-3-3 one of the midfielders is usually very strong defensively and provides cover for defence) to get up the field and provide overlaps or crossed from deeper in the field.
    Or they could be a more defensive full back whose style is aggression, stamina and tackling who would likely prefer a 4-4-2.
    Central midfielders have many variations. You can be a Defensive midfielder who is tidy on the ball and breaks up play where the oppositions attacking midfielders or number 10s would be. The can be 'box-to-box' which is like a S.Gerrard who can do a bit of everything including rushing into the box for goals & assists. 'Deep playmakers' like Pirlo are extremely clever and are like QB's in football. Or you can be a 'number 10' or central attacking midfieler who will aim to sit in the gap between the opposition midfield and defence lines and cause havoc.
    All positions have their variations too but this is getting a little long

    midfielders are the middle of the attackers and defenders so they themselves are a mix. the player with #10 jersey are usually the teams best player, most times it would be the central attacking midfielder of the team.

    One thing about modrić. He isn't a goal getter. His mai njob is to get the ball to the first row since he's a midfelider .... that being said most of the goals he scores are from outside 16 meters and fairly spectacular as a result

    Hey guys , a thing that i think you dont notice is the first touch that a player makes where the player place the ball in a specific place that he will get an advantage of from other players and that is one of the harder things to do in football.

    Midfielder = point Guard
    Progress the ball around the pitch. Take long shorts when needed. Stand in between opponents to block passing lane
    Support in attack or defense when needed. Literally be able to play every position on the field when needed.

    There is a known football saying “The midfield battles is what wins you the game.”
    Usually players have an assigned position and the actual number on the jersey relates to the position on the field! “He plays as a number 9” ie; a striker and so on and do forth.
    As far as midfielders they are assigned a specific position you got your Attacking midfielder, Defensive midfielders and wingers.
    Also some parts of the game the midfielders have an understanding if someone goes up the other covers for him just to anticipate incoming counter attacks by the opposition if they lose possession of the ball.

    You have to react to Francesco Totti, he is one of the most underrated legends out there because he didn't win much due to being a true one club man. His skills are on level with Zidane, Maradona called him the best player in the world, broke his leg 6 months before 2006 world cup and came back to make the best 11 team and had most assists.
    You will see some magic

    Midfield battle is Really Important, to dominate a game your midfielders have to win that battle over the opponent midfield for 90 mins, if you don’t win that battle you going to be defending for 90% of the game.. if you’re a midfielder you have to be good at passing thats key
