I'm late on this band wagon, but I just started watching Calli this year- so-- but Calli speaks English first, Japanese second. She only really knows the more formal way of speech. She's from Texas originally, and learned Japanese/moved to Japan and got into the underground hip-hop scene where she had pretty big success under a different name. She'd audition for Hololive and got picked up pretty quick when they saw her raw talent.
@@Shritistrang I'm reluctant to recommend DOOGs or Sharks to anyone, just because they have more than enough attention already. I mean unless you live under a rock, you've probably already seen clips of them anyway.

Just want to clear up that every vtuber does the cutesy thing... for about 5 seconds in their intro and maybe if they’re joking with their chat/being extra cute after receiving super chats. After that pretty much every vtuber is either just chill, degenerate, comedic, angry or weird during their stream. Like one of the vtubers who sometimes has a really cutesy act and intro is Houshou Marine, who also has on stream discussed her own fetishes, been wasted, talked about how a Pokémon turns her on, exclaimed that she’s horny in English, discussed Yaoi manga, recommended the chat to explore the male g spot etc.
Last night I watched her rant about how pervy stuff written for women drags things out for months, whereas stuff written for guys always has a payoff and how frustrating it was for her. I also LOVE her design and voice
She may not affect the 'cutesy' speech pattern, but she turns out to be one of the cutest members of Hololive EN based on the fact that she's a loveable little dork. She's very cute and easily flustered
"I'm not into the world of vtubers." Famous last words by Zamber before she plummets into the rabbit hole peko peko peko pls react to the pekomiko war song 😔🙏
Yeh they is definitely some more of that out there but it's probably less obvious to someone who isn't super familiar with the Japanese side of things.
4:17 "how do you rap formally?" In japanese (nihongo) there is a form of speech called keigo. It is considered more formal and is usually used in business, by the service industry, in school, when talking to your seniors, and other formal institutions. Calliope was rapping in keigo. Most learners of japanese (through textbooks and classes) learn keigo first. Also because informal speech tends to change over the decades, with terms, slang, and contractions going in and out of fashion. The english equivalent of keigo would be not using slangs, contractions, using longer forms of words , and constantly using honorifics like sir or ma'am, etc. etc. etc.
What's hilarious about Mori is that she comes off as this hardcore rapper with this edge when she's really a giant loveable dork who gets embarrassed and flustered at the smallest things. She's also a Tsundere to which she's affectionately called a Tsundereaper.
4:15 when she says rapping formally, she means formal japanese language, unlike english with just one word for each thing, japan has formal and informal speech for certain words, and she was speaking in formal japanese
It's funny you say that you thought the HololiveEn would take longer to come out cause funny enough one of the En girls named Gawr Gura blew up really fast and became the first Hololive member to reach 1 million subs in like 2 or 3 months followed by 2 of the Hololive JP members Fubuki and Korone who had been around longer gaining 1 million just a little bit after Gura...... I'm in too deep in the rabbit hole someone save me.
Oh no...you poor soul. First it starts off with something like this. A cover or an original song. It’s too late. You entered the rabbit hole the moment you saw the recommendation.
I am surprised you didn’t talk about Gawr Gura. I thought of her like a shark version of Kanna, but maybe that is more of visual thing. Nice video either way, love your content.
Fun fact: Mori actually did all her editing for the video. She made the rap, and the back track but gets it drafted and passed over by her composer friend KokoroBeats. She is pretty multitalented in comparison to all the other Vtubers of Hololive because she can draw, video edit, sing, rap, and is an idol. It is considered social taboo to identify the person behind the character so I won't mention who she is/was, but Mori's other persona/pseudonym edits a lot videos for other Japanese independent music artists and is actually a dedicated rapper as well.
Hololive probably actually didn’t invest much in Calli’s music. Since she does live in Japan, she may have possibly used their studio to record it, but I’m not even sure that is the case. She does work with a producer, Kokoro Beats, but he is a friend of hers and not someone Hololive set her up with. She does most things on her own, especially when it comes to writing the tracks. She also made this video all on her own. She’s actually got animation experience to the point where when the other vtuber shown in the video, Kiara, put out a song of her own, she enlisted Calli to make the video for her too. I’m a big fan of her and would definitely recommend her other songs and her content in general. Honestly though, don’t expect her to be too much of a badass if you watch her streams. The point of her character is “gap moe”, so a lot of what you see here is kind of posturing. Playing up her ruthless shinigami identity, when the reality we more often see is kind of a silly dork who gets flustered about being bad at video games and tries (but usually fails) to avoid cursing on stream because children might be watching. Honestly though Calli is my favorite, the other HoloEN girls are all pretty amazing too. None of them come across as generically cutesy like the vtubers you mention and none of them rely on lewdness either. It’s all about just really fun personalities and each of them has something unique to offer. I really think Hololive was smart with choosing their talent and it’s good to see it’s been rewarded with success.
Yeah, the Live2D rigs are impressive for what they are. A Japanese vtuber and illustrator recently reacted to her artwork moving on a livestream (yes, for those in the know I'm talking about Pochi-sensei watching Reine's Hololive debut), and she mentioned how she had to draw so many individual parts of the hair, and seeing it all move and flow together in the finished L2D was really something.
You can rap formally. It is pretty hard in english but in many other languages you can say things in an informal fashion or in a formal fashion. Japanese or german are two languages where this is easily doable.
I would love to see your reactions to the Hololive EN debut streams, or even your condensed reaction to them. They all give a very nice introduction to their style of content, and since not all of them do music in this direct of a way, only checking the songs will leave most of them out. I will advocate for more reactors to gain the Gawr Gura experience till I cease to be.
A lot of them are cute on the surface, but once you start watching them you learn.... things. They all range from cute to sexy, quirky to serious, and basically everything in between. Just going with the EN branch, Gura, who is the most popular of them by far, is essentially a meme lord. And she doesn't "try" to be cute, but just ends up doing it anyway. Ame is a toxic gamer. She does a few over-the-top cutesy streams now and again that I don't personally get into, but it's fun watching her play games because she gets so mad all the time. She will also ground pound your mom. Calli, who you just saw, is obviously really talented. In fact, her EP that featured this song actually held the #1 spots on the hip-hop charts for a day or two in multiple counties, including the US and Japan. Kiara is bottom left. (Dumb and lewd) Ina is an insanely talented artist and is super chill. She also really likes puns and dad jokes. Also, if you're looking for some that aren't that stereotypical "cute" style that aren't part of EN... I could recommend Coco. In a way, she's kind of like the Deadpool of Hololive. There is also Haachama... who does come off really cute... but is basically a degenerate that does whatever she wants to get views. She literally had a contest for viewers to submit lewd art that she then reviewed *on stream.* And, more recently, did a cooking stream... with a TARANTULA.
Tanigo, Hololive's CEO has talked about the Live2D models they use. Depending on who makes the original art, and how difficult the rigging is the cost is anywhere from 300-800 dollars (roughly). The cost for a similar model as someone who is independent will generally run you between 900-1000 US, however there are simpler live2Ds out there that are just as expressive, but considerably cheaper because the art isn't as detailed and rigging is not as intensive. Full 3D models are actually considerably cheaper as well, 300$ is about the high end for 3D depending on what programs you use.
This is the first video I have seen of you and even though I am only 3 seconds in I know you are a great person. I see tons of Oshawott plushies, I see a Monika Plushy and even a Sylveon. You have a good taste.
Cali is great, i was actually a fan of her's years ago but lost that account and forgot about her. she has such a distinct voice and flow that memories came rushing back. Vtubers are great. it allows people who would not normally be comfortable in front of a camera to thrive and even those who are dont have to hold back as much. Hololive in particular is really good because their long audition process kinda ensures all their entertainers are super talented at what they do. id definitely recommend watching Gigguk's video "i got addicted to Vtubers and regret everything" to better understand the appeal. unlike kizuna ai who fell off because her company tried to replace the actress and treat her as a brand, this new crop thrives because the actresses behind them are so vital to the characters, i mean they are basically improv actors playing exaggerated versions of themselves
YOO Zamber, as a day one Deadbeat thanks for checking out our Reaper Rapper's stuff. Not going into a long history (though I could) but Yeah Mori is super hard working, been a rapper quite awhile before vtuber stuff, even lives in japan for the underground rap scene. She had 2 other jobs when starting Vtuber duties ran herself a bit ragged but as of 2021 is full time on youtube. Word of warning getting into this stuff can be bad for the health of your timetable, but it sure is fun lol
she isn't kidding when she says she's a workaholic. She's got multiple music projects and I'm pretty sure she's animator on top of being a vtuber. God I'm lazy
There are formal speeches and informal. Just as how we say "Hello" and "Whatsup!" Just as in Japanese it's like saying "Sayonara!" (Formal Goodbye) and "Mata ne!" (Casual Goodbye)
Didn't think there would be a market for it over here. Gura: *Laughs in 1.65 million in just 3 Months* But for real though it was nice to see your reaction to Mori's first song! You'll be in the rabbit hole soon. If you're going to react to more Mori songs then i'd recommend Live Again next!
Wouldn't take ya to be a fan of Vtuber. Among the hololive, I follow Gura the most and a few Watson videos depending on the game she stream! I haven't really check out the other three English speaking holodrive unless it's a group collab video like Among us but usually from Gura pov.
04:42 That's Takanashi Kiara!! A chicken--I mean, phoenix who's extremely talented, bubbly and has a major crush on Calli. She's proclaimed herself as captain of their ship called TakaMori lol
i won´t go into too much detail (famous last words before displaying a wall of text about details) since i don´t know how deep you want to get into vtuber music, but i can at least give some insight on Calliope and her music. Well as first and despite someone comenting about it already, a "formal rap" is not something that really exist (i believe so at least) but what do exist is a formal speech on Japan, since japanese people are really respectful, they talk differently in front of people that hold any kind of power or status above them, that is what she refers to in the song, as it was the way she was speaking in japanese in that part, wich, for a japanese point of view, it would be weird. A bit of technical talk, while some of those are indeed screenshots, the movement is not made by screenshots overlapping or anything like that, they are made by riggin the image and using a softward that allows your cam to capture your movement and puts it over the image following those riggs, givin a much more smooth movement than just overlapping screenshots, since the avatar is actually moving for real, can´t get much more technical since i am no expert but i think this way the point gets across. It is called Live2D. Abit of background about the song, this is the song she released on her debut stream, being her first stream, and it blews inmediately, portraying Calli's talent as a rapper (i do believe she also made the video herself, and wrote a bit of the lyrics too with the help of her producer or whatever is called the one who rites the lyrics XD. She just doesn´t feel confident enough to write her own songs entirelly, or produce her music entirelly by herself, but she plans on doing that in the future) Calli is a fun little dork who actually thinks kinda low of herself, specially when gaming since she is not a good gamer. however, she has had quite an evolution since her first stream, and now feels a lot more confident when singing, this being clear by her amount of karaoke streams, and her really beautiful song (and my favourite) Live again, wich i will go into detail if you decide to react to it, since it is a song with A LOT of background and feels for her. I am well known (not really) for leaving wall of texts on hololive and vtubers reaction channels, so sorry for that and thank you to whoever reads this whole thing. I am willing to recomend more songs if you ask for it or if you keep going into the rabbit hole, but for now, i will just watch your hololive reaction career with lots of interest, and i do hope you keep going down, because its worth it even if you only come for the singing. (i can dump all kind of info if needed, not only about songs, just ask for it, and it goes for anybody interested)
What do you mean? Mori is an adorable little dorkwad, she just tries to look tough to impress her wife kiara. (The pheonix girl in the MV she calls kusotori) c:
Don't tell her! It's part of the fun that you initially think she's the cool, mature, confident one (an illusion that broke approximately five seconds into her debut, admittedly).
Gawr Gura, one of the Hololive English girl, also has a really great singing voice as well! Unfortunately, she doesn't have a single yet. The only EN girls with their own songs are Calliope and Kiara. (Ironic since they're kind of a pair)
Easy trick to remember how to pronounce shinigami: "she-knee-gah!-me" Tell a little story with it. She knees you somewhere painful and you feel like you're gonna die afterwards.
Being a little on the older side, I love how Mori used that horn section. Brought back a lot of memories from the Munster's theme song from the 60's. th-cam.com/video/HM0riizU8Ls/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Zebart Which has been redone a couple times.
I think Calli is a good choice for Zamber, not looking for someone super cute or lewd. Botan, Okayu and Subaru are also good fits, but Calli is the English talent that most fits the mold.
Yes, but the plushie has a double meaning to me. I like the vtuber BUT I only got into her because people used her model on VRChat back in the day and I feel in love with the girl “Nuts” who used her as a face claim. So it’s heavily weighted in the VRChat side first
She didn't rap formally she rapped using formal japanese speech, the way you'd speak at work or to higher-ups, etc. Keigo is what it's called and there are different forms. Word of warning getting into this stuff can be bad for the health of your timetable, but it sure is fun lol
she isn't kidding when she says she's a workaholic. She's got multiple music projects and I'm pretty sure she's animator on top of being a vtuber. God I'm lazy
The fact that gawr gura, who is another hololive en member, hit 2 million subs already should be evidence of a market being here.
There are formal speeches and informal. Just as how we say "Hello" and "Whatsup!" Just as in Japanese it's like saying "Sayonara!" (Formal Goodbye) and "Mata ne!" (Casual Goodbye)
Didn't think there would be a market for it over here.
Gura: *Laughs in 1.65 million in just 3 Months*
But for real though it was nice to see your reaction to Mori's first song! You'll be in the rabbit hole soon.
If you're going to react to more Mori songs then i'd recommend Live Again next!
Welcome to the rabbit hole. We have cookies here and ... what ? The exit ? Sorry this is a one way trip
I am Japanese, but it was interesting that I could understand how you react to this song even if I didn't understand English.
Pikamee is a great VTuber to look up. She's very much just herself. And yes, her laugh is real. (You'll know what I mean if you check her out)
Best tea pot ever
"How do you rap formally?"
Clearly you haven't heard my boy Yakko Warner spit bars.
If you react again, her song Cursed Night is her more somber rap song, while this was the pure hype song. She’s fantastic
I love this song 🥺
Yes more people reacting to our dark queen
Next, IAmZamber reacts to GawrGura saying "a", obviously.
Haha, enjoyed the video even though VTubers aren't your normal thing!
oh, welcome to the rabbit hole. I've been here since jan 2020. trust me, there's no escape. again, welcome!
One can make their own model as well. Live2d is typically used.
so it begins
Wouldn't take ya to be a fan of Vtuber. Among the hololive, I follow Gura the most and a few Watson videos depending on the game she stream! I haven't really check out the other three English speaking holodrive unless it's a group collab video like Among us but usually from Gura pov.
Calliope's songs are what got me into the rabbit hole that is hololive, so be wary lol
"compare the other cutesy v-tubers"
Man if only she saw the horror behind those cute models
*Kagura Mea, Pekora, Miko, Hachama flashbacks*
Welcome-peko... Ha⬆Ha⬇Ha⬆Ha⬇
04:42 That's Takanashi Kiara!! A chicken--I mean, phoenix who's extremely talented, bubbly and has a major crush on Calli. She's proclaimed herself as captain of their ship called TakaMori lol
She watch a vtuber video guys, TH-cam algorithm will do the rest
Oh no... another soul taken by the rabbit hole.
Zamber, become one of us! Fall into the Hole!
9:12 Projekt Melody, Silvervale, and Ironmouse 😆
The rabbit hole has opened.
NO! once you fall down the rabbit hole you'll never be able to get out!!
On trash taste podcast, she says she wants to do rap collabs with Joey and chills
A pleasant surprise
"It's chicken girl? I dunno" oh god....
Technically formal raps are Poems, sonnets, and Rhymes
Ah⬆️Ha⬇️Ha↗️Ha↘️Ha⬆️Ha⬇️Ha↗️Ha↘️ you gonna fall into the hololive rabbit hole
i won´t go into too much detail (famous last words before displaying a wall of text about details) since i don´t know how deep you want to get into vtuber music, but i can at least give some insight on Calliope and her music.
It's when she is using Japanese, there are multiple pronunciations for one word and some are formal.
Haha the rabbit hole is calling! Hinotori by Takanashi Kiara "Chicken girl" you saw that popped up in the video lol
ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! ONE OF US!! >:D
She’s cute in our hearts, or whatever deadbeats have in there rib cages
Being a little on the older side, I love how Mori used that horn section.
Brought back a lot of memories from the Munster's theme song from the 60's.

Which has been redone a couple times.
I think Calli is a good choice for Zamber, not looking for someone super cute or lewd. Botan, Okayu and Subaru are also good fits, but Calli is the English talent that most fits the mold.
"I'm not into the world of Vtubers." *you have a kizuna ai plushie*
Yes, but the plushie has a double meaning to me. I like the vtuber BUT I only got into her because people used her model on VRChat back in the day and I feel in love with the girl “Nuts” who used her as a face claim. So it’s heavily weighted in the VRChat side first
Good. Good. Fall down the hole. Never look back.
Sooooo, I don't know if they still are, but Hololive EN did recently put up an ad saying they're looking for English talent.
Its supposed to be open until the 29th, if I remember correctly.
Welcome... To our paradise!
I love to see someone fall into rabbit hole
Btw nice reaction
This song was creative
The best singers in hololive is suisei, sora, towa,Kanata, okayu, shion (my opinion)if u want to check more out :)
I wonder if she's seen pekora, miko, baqua, haachama, or ollie. Another rap I want to see her react to is if from okayu and korone.
