- This is Anant Nag’s fiftieth year as an actor including five initially onstage in Mumbai. He talks about being abruptly removed from an ashram and later a Mutt in Karnataka and sent to Mumbai where he detested the curriculum. Anant recalls straying into Marathi theatre from where Satyadev Dubey introduced him to Shyam Benegal. He moved to Bangalore where politics beckoned and was a minister in the JH Patil cabinet in charge of the Bangalore Development authority. He talks about his mercurial brother Shanker Nag and his premature demise and is excited about the current crop of young directors in Kannada cinema who’re out to prove they’re in no way inferior to their counterparts in Tamil and Telugu. He’s in constant search for interesting scripts.

ಅಕ್ಷರಶಃ ಸತ್ಯ.... 👍👍👍👍ಇಂಥಃ ಅಪರೂಪದಲ್ಲಪರೂಪದ ಅತ್ಯದ್ಭುತ, ಸುಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ, ಪ್ರತಿಭಾವಂತರನ್ನು, ಪ್ರಬುಧ್ಧತೆಯ ನಟರನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗ ಗುರುತಿಸಲೇಯಿಲ್ಲ... ಎಂಥಃ ಸ್ಪುರದ್ರೂಪಿ, ಸಹಜ ನಟನೆಯ ಸರದೋರ, ಇವರು ನಟನೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡದೇ ಪಾತ್ರವೇ ಅವರಾಗಿ ಆ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ಸ್ವತಃ ತಾವಾಗಿ ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಯಾವ ಭಾಷೆಯಾದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಸೊಗಸಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವಂಥಃ ವಾಕ್ ಚಾತುರ್ಯ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ ಮತ್ತಾರಿಗೂ ಬರಲಾರದು. ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗ ಇಂಥಃ ಅಪ್ರತಿಮ ಕಲಾವಿದರನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ಪುಣ್ಯ ಮಾಡಿತ್ತು. ಔವರು ಮನಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರೆ ಭಾರತದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಾಷೆಯ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿಂಚಬಹುದಿತ್ತು... ಆದರೆ ಇವರು ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ... ಹಣ, ಕೀರ್ತಿಯ ಹಿಂದೆ ಓಡಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಬದಲಿಗೆ ಅವೇ ಇವರನ್ನು ಅರಸಿ ಬಂದಿತು... ಯಾವ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಟ್ಯಂತರ ಸುಸಂಸ್ಕೃತರ, ಪ್ರಬುಧ್ಧತೆಯ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿಗಳ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ.... ಆದರೇ ವೇದಿಕೆಯಮೇಲೆ ಕರೆದು ಸನ್ಮಾನಿಸಿದ್ದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ತಡವಾಗಿ... ಇವರಿಗೆ 73 ವರ್ಷಗಳಾದಾಗ... ಆದರೆ ಇವರನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ವದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಗುರುತಿಸಿದ್ದು ಇವರ 25 ಅಥವೋ 30ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ... ಅಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತಿಗಾಗಲೇ ಇವರ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಪಾತ್ರನಿರ್ವಹಣೆಯಿಂದ ಕೋಟ್ಯಂತರ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿಗಳ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ಕೇವಲ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೇ ಸಾಲದು... ಇವರು ಕೇವಲ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ನಿಜ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲೂ ಇವರು ಬಳ ಆದರ್ಶ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ, ಸುಸಂಸ್ಕೃತರು, ಸರಳ ಸಜ್ಜನಿಕೆಯ ಸರದಾರರು... ಅಪ್ಪಟ ದೇಶಪ್ರೇಮೀ, ಸಮಾಜ ಚಿಂತಕರು... ಉತ್ತಮ ವಾಗ್ಮಿಗಳು, ಇವರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷಾಭಿಮಾನ, ಸೊಗಸಾದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪದಗಳ ಬಳಕೆ... ಸೊಗಸಾದ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಶೈಲಿ.. ಹಾಗೂ ಯಾವುದೇ ಭಾಷೆಯಾಗಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಅದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಭಾಷಾಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯ, ಎಂಥಃ ಬುಧ್ಧಿವಂತಿಕೆ ಇವರದು.. 🌹🌹 ಇವರ ಅತ್ಯದ್ಭುತ ವಿಶೇಷ ಗುಣಗಳು... ಇಂಥಃ ಉತ್ಕೃಷ್ಟ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಗಣನೆಗೆ ತೆಡೆದುಕೊಂಡರೇ ಇಡೀ ಭಾರತದಾದ್ಯಂತ ಇವರು ನಿಜವಾದ ಸೆಲಿಬ್ರಿಟಿಯಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಂದೇ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಪದ್ಮವಿಭೂಷಣ, ಪದ್ಮಶ್ರೀ ಲಭಿಸಬೇಕಿತ್ತು... ಆದರೆ ಕೇವಲ ಜಾತಿಯ ಆಧಾರದಮೇಲೆ ಈ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೀ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾರದ ಸಣ್ಣ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಕವಾವಿದರಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಬೇಸರದ ಸಂಗತಿ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗೆ ಬೆಲೆಯಿಲ್ಲದಂತಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರ ನೀಡಿದಾಗ ಆ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಗೆ ಬೆಲೆಸಿಕ್ಕಂತಾಯಿತು. ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಇಡೀ ಭಾರತದ ಚಿತ್ರರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸ್ಪುರದ್ರೂಪಿ ನಟರೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ಅನಂತ್ ನಾಗ್ ಅವರೇ... ಇಂಥಃ ನಿಜವಾದ ನಟನೆಗೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಸೂಪರೊ ಹೀರೋನನ್ನು ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲೇಯಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದೇ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಬೇಸರದ ಸಂಗತಿ... ಆದರೇನಂತೆ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಯುವಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ಇವರೇ ಸ್ಪೂರ್ತಿ.. ಚಿರಯುವಕನಂತೆ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಮಿನುಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ದೃವನಕ್ಷತ್ರದಂತೆ ಸದಾ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಕಣ್ಮಣಿಯಾಗಿ ಜನಮನದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ಇರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇವರು... ಸುಸಂಸ್ಕೃತರು, ಪ್ರಬುಧ್ಧತೆಯ, ದೇಶಭಕ್ತ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿ ವರ್ಗದವರಿಗೆ ಅನಂತ್ ನಾಗ್ ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಸೆಲಿಬ್ರಿಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಉಳಿದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ಪುರಸ್ಕಾರಗಳ ಸುರಿಮಳೆಯಾಗಲಿ... ಶುಭವಾಗಲಿ... ಭಗವಂತ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಶತಾಯುಷಿಯಾಗುವಂತೆ ಹರಸಲಿ...

Deserved a much better interviewer. He is a great actor,someone who broke the acting conventions in Kannada film industry,always underrated though is a genius. Film companion needs to concentrate more on Kannada film industry too.It was one of the pioneer industries to make new wave films in India.There is much more to be studied about Kannada films.

Sri Ananth Nag Sir. What a dynamic hero... Genius.. A Well dignified, the most talented, well cultured, Well spoken, Well disciplined Great Actor, Gear Citizen... What a hold in language... which ever the language .. The style he speak is most attractive... The Most Handsome guy in the world.. in his old age also. Really encouraging to see FC paying attenion to cinema in other Indian languages. Was even more great to see Anant Nag, but tge interview disnt do him jusfice at all. Did get to know some unknown things about him but conversation had so much more potential. Better interviewer needed.
His portrayal of Dean in UPPI DADA MBBS was very convincing than other language versions

i m a writer and director of tv programmes. i m a great admirer of u. i have watched all ur interviews. this particular interview though u r not so comfortable especially english even in kannada u dont seem to be much of a communicater if i may say so what u say is very important because of ur extraordinary talent in acting and ur body of tremendous work. therefore here in this interview while answering questions u talk about ur acting technique or method. u use the words like natural, 90 percent in to the charecter, smarana manana , imitating some real people and things like that. we know u have spontaniously said that. probably if u give it real thought organize ur thoughts on acting , if try write it down it ll be a great service to the whole acting freternity. and if u communicate that it ll be great. thamk u sir, i cried in godibanna because u resembled my father.
