    Thank you Rebecca for talking about this! I am a former flutist who got really worsened asthma a couple years after I stopped playing regularly to pursue another education and career, and now I have had a hard time coming back into playing because of immediate asthma symptoms when picking up the instrument. But I really want to, and this gives me hope!

    Rebecca,
    I play the flute and I have some breathing issues earlier on ,but after playing the flute for a couple of months, I think my breathing has performance wise increased a lot ,a lot... Now I can deeply inhale and deeply exhale which wasn't there before.

    I think a person with asthma initially might face a little problem in playing the flute... his or her wheezing might increase a little bit in the beginning, but continue it for a couple of months and I think the whole situation will improve to the point where there won't be any asthma anymore.

      Playing flute (and deep breathing exercise) sure helped me! I used to have an asthma problem but it definitely isn't a problem anymore. Our lungs really do need exercise. :) Rebecca

    Oh and I do use the "Breather" which has helped me immensely build my air. So flute seems a bit similar. Also, do you teach alto flute?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not play the Alto flute in my instructional videos, however a lot of the same techniques and fingerings are used in the alto flute. I also have several students who play the alto and bass flutes. If you join our Facebook community you will get to see them play! -Rebecca

    Hi Ms. Fuller. I would like to know if braces has an effect on playing the flute? Can getting braces put on for the first time have an effect on playing. I don't my braces yet but will soon be getting them.

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Braces are great for your smile- and they'll be fine for your flute playing as well. The trick is to stretch your top lip oooooover the braces and down to the bottom of your front top teeth. Once you do this, you'll be just fine. You'll have to remind yourself often though since your bite will be changing over the next couple of years. Good luck! ~Rebecca

    I am playing the recorder, and I have asthma as well, and I have difficulty breathing while I play, can someone give me some advice

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Yes, you can learn to play the flute even if you have asthma. I used to have asthma (and an inhaler), but running as a hobby and also playing the flute has made my lungs strong. Playing the recorder is helpful because there are a few fingers that are similar. Remember that everyone has a tricky time at first- there is an adjustment period. You can do it easily by following my techniques. Come over to LearnFluteOnline.com and get started in the sequential lessons that take you step-by-step.. the easiest (and fastest) way to learn. I hope to see you soon. -Rebecca :)
