The fact that no one expected it to be this good, just makes this a thousand times better! Ngl, I didn't know what to expect with the song and mv, but they just blew my mind! First time I listened to the song, I immediately loved it, so the mv naturally gave me goosebumps.
Theory: Irene & Seulgi represent a single person. Each represents that evil vs. angel side of each artist. They struggle against parts of themselves that they cannot neither understand nor control.
The best thing about this subunit having only two members is that people can no longer erase and ignore Irene’s talent. Back in SM Rookies and pre-debut, Irene was known for her amazing dance skills. But because she was so pretty, after debut people started erasing her skills and calling her a talentless visual. To everyone who said Seulgi should have just debuted solo and that Irene would only drag her down and wouldn’t be able to hold her own against Seulgi how does it feel to be wrong? Being pretty doesn’t doesn’t mean being talentless.

For monster especially at 7:39 you can hear the rawness, the unfiltered power of seulgi's voice. It's quite rare for them to focus on emotion in vocals, preferring to record them refined, especially when the song isn't a ballad. It also helps because of seulgi's vocal tone, which tends to be a bit richer than most voices in kpop.
