- This is one of my favorite hikes in the San Juan Mountains near Silverton, Colorado.
There is much to see at the Old Hundred Tram Terminal and Boarding House. Not only is the destination worth the walk the backdrop is stunning every step of the way.

The Old Hundred bunk house and tram terminal has been on my bucket list for years. I drove up to the trailhead with a hiking friend but he took one look at the mountainside that the trail traverses and backed out. We drove up a different tram house at the end of the road and poked around there and that is a great place to explore also but I have always wanted to get out to the Old Hundred site. Thnx for publishing this video!

Amazing video….we love Silverton and have looked up the hill at the boarding house and tram from the Old One Hundred Mine below and wondered what it looked like up close. Thanks for taking us along! And yes, the mine tour is really fascinating!

That was an interesting trek with great pictures & informative commentary. Thanks! On another topic, I was glad too see that Bears Ears & Grand Staircase Nat'l Monuments were fully restored. I truly try not to get political on my comments but as these lands are owned by all Americans, I believe this is the best way to preserve them for future generations.

Been to the mine tour and up the road to the trailhead. I thought the TH was the Gary Owen Mine but yours is 200' higher and where the trail is. Never had the courage to do the hike to the Tram House. The drive on up the road to the Buffalo Boy Mine where another tram goes down to near the lower Old Hundred is very nice and is above 12,600'. Road is as you described. And many wild flower to boot! Wife always get's a preview photo from you and shows me.

When I first came to the San Juans about 40 years ago there was no information available at all. I went straight up the tram way and even with all of my experience in mountaineering it was doable but unpleasant with a lot of loose rock & exposure. Sine then its one of my favorites and have been there numerous times. The side road off of the "main road"..Stoney Pass...has a very tight turn coming down,. Previously I had no problems but making this turn with a full sized F 150 without a spotter was a nightmare. Just a few inches too far and its a LONG ways down to Cunningham Gulch! No problem with a short wheel base or with some preplanning park the truck and walk another mile or so. Great video which brought back some great (and not so great) memories.

Think i know the turn, had no issue on stoney myself, that was in a side by side though. Sure was pretty!

Cool trip! I’ve explored a lot of old buildings in the Alpine Loop Byway. Never something quite as adventurous to reach though. Thanks for the tour.
