It’s comforting to see that I’m not the only one that hates going to work here every day. It’s depressing every day and I get to hear my manager tell me to “smile, it’s not that bad” to which I really want to respond with “fuck you.” I’m a assistant produce manager and I make $15.45 and I STILL hate it. I work with primarily idiots that I have to babysit all day and treat them like a 3 year old kid. Nobody does what they are supposed to at my store and it’s so demotivating that I’ve stopped caring too. I hate job hunting but I think I’m seriously going to look for something else I can’t take much more of this place before I just lose my shit.

Kroger does not like, care about or respect their employees. They would not even talk about our union contract for 1.5 years. We had to coll in federal negotiators to get a contract. Do not work for this company.

I worked at Kroger and got fired. When they first complained that I was slow they said they’d make a list of stuff for me to do and that the people that worked with me should warn me if I was slow. I got fired because some dude(my produce manager)said I was still too slow. I don’t even work at the same time as him so how did he know I was too slow. I was good friends with the people I worked with and I told them to tell me if I was ever too slow because he complained before when I used to work with him. I was only slow at first because I was new, but I became consistently fast later on. As far as I’m concerned, he used that as an excuse. he actually fired me because I changed my availability to something he wasn’t comfortable with. I told him to tell me if he was ok with it, he said yes and went behind my back and fired me. What an asshole. They never made that list of stuff for me to do.
    Edit(Update)
That manager got fired. Unfortunately he had already gotten all the people I knew there kicked out in just a few months before he left. What a d!(#. Now I work at zaxby's and i'm one of the fastest workera there. I love it. I'm going to become a manager!

Worked at Kroger for 6 months, was hoping for a career... Trust me when i say, if your not a full time employee, you are not part of the Kroger Family and they will treat you as an outsider. Other employees with less seniority were given promotional opportunities, when i was not. I begged for full-time position numerous times to multiple managers. There is always an excuse to make you feel like whatever you do, its just not good enough to become part of the "Great People Family" Good luck supporting yourself on 15 hrs a week.

I was just past my 10th year at Kroger when I quit. I had full time and top rate, which is insanely hard to get and I still had enough. If your thinking of working for retail, please keep reading. I'm only 31 and I feel 50, almost all my joints pot and crack when I move them and can barely move at all when there's a weather change. My knees are the worst, walking is painful and the thought of running is a nightmare, all this because of stocking shelves at Kroger and other retail jobs. Your enemy is the store managers, who mostly have no idea what the job takes to achieve, all they see are numbers, which you are to them. They will question your work ethic, and debate the same numbers they use when thrown back at them, you always lose. In hindsight I could complain all day, just make sure your retail career is a short one.

Working for any retail stores are the same. I work for Walmart. We're understaff. Especially the second shift 2pm to 11pm. I was hired to work the home department. Since they're understaff. The team leads from other departments make you work at other departments. We have to zone items in there right location. Only have some stupid customers to mess it up. Have to do it over. Not only that we have something called reshop. Have to return all the returns back to the shelves.

When I graduated last year from college I went into store management. I do agree with you on the part time but I went full time when I got out of high school. I like being in store management, its a good job.

The grocery business is hard. Years ago it was a career path for people. I work at frys food and drug here in Tucson Arizona which is owned by Kroger. My experience with the company has been positive and it's understandable that it is not for everyone. This industry is not a guaranteed weekly hours business and is based on sales and seniority. And they make it clear when they hire people that's the way it is. But unfortunately the economy here in Tucson is horrible and trust me there is worse places to work.

I started at City Market, one of Kroger's companies. 1986, as a meat clean up, ended up cleaning bakery, seafood, deli. Worked into deli nite production, then to meat cutter apprentice, then to meat cutter. Left for a year in 1992, came back a year later, 1993, went into meat manager, was a manager until 2012. Transferred to Frys division in 2012 ,stepped out of management. (Assistant manager). I'm retiring in 2020, there has been a lot of changes in the years I've worked here. I've worked with a lot of nice people in this company, and I don't regret working with the company. I would recommend anyone to work for Kroger. As far as money goes, I think it depends on the location you work at.

Working at Kroger had its ups and downs, my department manager was a total bitch and she would be very rude, short tempered and aggressive towards me whenever I asked her if I could go on break (I have been on the clock for over 2 and a half hours at that point) or if I could clock out on my scheduled shift, I mainly got the opening shifts, I didn't like how I was not only doing my tasks I was supposed to be doing but I had to do the tasks that the closing employees didn't get done the previous night, I did try reporting it to my manager, she arrogantly responded to not worry about what they're doing and only to focus on what I can do about it, she even told me that the main reason why she has me open is because she knows I'm capable of picking up the slack, there was another incident where she threatened to fire me if I don't cover somebody's shift because I had plans that evening, fortunately most of the other managers were cool, relaxed people who were easy to get along with, fortunately later on I started getting more later shifts because I was getting tired and worn out having to work the opening shifts all the time.

I just quit Kroger a week ago because the managers there are very rude idk if I’m in the union ive been there for 3 months first they told me I’ll be in the union in 60 days and then they said 90 before I was getting ready to quit . It was just a whole bunch of mess going on. But I just applied to the Kroger by my house they said they want to hire me so hopefully they don’t say nothing if they see me in the system, Kroger pay every week so that’s why I’m trying to keep this job while I’m in college lmao and if not then I’m just going to do Uber and Lyft 😆💀 but I plan on doing that anyway to earn extra money so 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I feel ya dude! Unless you get lucky with your store being good it's really not worth it and awful for mental health! Here is my whole Kroger experience; Kroger is the worst job I've ever had hands down and it's not even a contest. They do not respect you as a person or human being and don't adhere to their own values of being so-called 'inclusive'. I have autism and other disabilities (Some of which are very serious health-wise due to stress) and they continue to schedule me for the worst most stressful and overly demanding shifts.
I also got repeatedly verbally abused and yelled out and mischaracterized by my HR person and management in front of co-workers and while I loved 99.9% of my fellow co-workers who were awesome and kind to me given my conditions I had a couple that were straight up bullying and antagonistic to me. The union seems toothless at best and at worst might be in bed with them these days. It felt like high school all over again with the toxicity and gossip but from adults acting like high school kids when I just try to do my job and keep my head down while trying to keep my health in order. I'm ready to quit when I find a better job which is hopefully sooner than later. You can be the most loyal person there but the company will not be loyal back and will replace you the next day if you died. It's just not worth it.

  • @maxdslr

What happened to you, Alan, happens because America is controlled by ultra-rich sociopaths who don't want to give working class Americans a decent quality of life. No paid parental leave. No easily affordable healthcare. No livable wages to afford buying a home, building your family of three, or quality education. No paid vacation time. Those things are why America is known for maternal mortality, mental illnesses, suicides, and other things representing dystopian working environments. So, America's culture doesn't care about people's well-being. It only benefits greedy men who are sociopaths. America has become a feudal country with increasing wealth inequality for decades where politically disempowered working class Americans are serfs controlled by their abusive landlords and ruling class. America is no longer the greatest country anymore. Cut-throat corporations like Kroger are controlled by greedy sociopaths who are making America collapse by ruining everything they control. Upper management from Kroger is controlled by greedy bullies who are doing union busting to bully working class Americans further. All of this tyranny has been getting for many decades. It's just getting more apparent to people in America because things have gotten worse. People who mainly control Kroger are not nice people. They don't treat part-time workers with respect. They prefer full-time worker drones who stroke their elitist egos. Like I said. America is not the greatest country anymore. Some people have left America because of greedy bullies who control it. All of that gluttony contributing to global warming, junk food contributing to health issues, alcohol contributing to liver cancer, smoking contributing to lung cancer, selling out to corporations that bully working class workers, promoting a military culture that kills innocent children, religious grifting, and other things do not make you a good person. It makes you corrupt. That's what American culture does. It corrupts people. It doesn't make the world be a better place. Also, America's culture is rooted in white men who raped and pillaged natives' land. America's culture is still benefitting white men who rape and pillage lands overseas with their military-industrial complex. So, nothing has changed to make this world be a place free from abusive men. Kroger is promoting America's military that benefits toxic masculinity. So, Kroger cares about money more than protecting people from abusive men. Like I said. Nothing has changed.

Oh trust me..... You won't be thinking $9 an hour is a lot when you start having bills to pay and when you have to pay for your rent or mortgage. And ON TOP OF THAT money for food, clothes, shoes, toiletries, transportation, etc..... It's NO JOKE out here, girl. I know this is an old comment and all but I hope you are enjoying your day today and I wish you all the best.

@@IMMAMASTER44 I wasn't trying to be rude or anything. You seem like a hard worker and there are so many jobs where hardworking people are cherished and paid what they should be. I was just trying to speak words of motivation. People our age do not understand the importance of hard work and how it affects our generation so when I see someone with that good work ethic I cant help but to try and motivate them to apply apply apply and use what God has gifted them. Sorry if I seemed hostile it was only meant for encouragement.
