Excellent read! Thank you very much. I've read the book several times now and every time I more and more see the irony and humour in so many scenes. This book is truly well written. Also in my opinion it's far superior to any movie about it.
Karen reads some Anne of Green Gables books without a British accent. She was born in Britain, lives in the USA, spent time in South America. She reads some Spanish books too. I love her, but slow her down a little so I can savor her voice and the books last longer too.
@@mosart7025 i listen at .75 speed and it is just a perfectly normal speech pattern. The "normal" speed pattern is much too unrealisticly fast paced! I listen to this each night and fall asleep to marvelous Jane Austen (and only at .75 lol) 📖💕
I agree. To listen to this narrated by an American is almost a tragedy ( it just absolutely doesn't work. It would me like casting Robert Redford as the Godfather.
Absolutely wonderful! I love Karen Savage's reading. So enjoyable to listen to. 1:24:02 "As soon as Nicholls has made up white soup enough." I couldn't understand it at first so had to look up what the line actually was. White soup is a chicken soup made with veal bone stock and ground sugared almonds. Also 6:50:44 "They entered the woods, and bidding adieu to the *river* for a while..." I couldn't make out "river" at first and looked it up also.
Wait... you couldn't hear the word "river" or you didn't know what it meant? Is English not your first language? Thanks for posting what white soup is. It sounds yummy!
@@mosart7025 I understand what river means. =D I had to look up the text in the book in order to see that the word being said was "river" - the diction wasn't great at that point.
@@barbaralamson7450 my apologies, I can not post a photo on here. You can always search on TH-cam "book folding" and see other people's creations and channels.
Do check out some of the other Jane Austen novels on the channel, Mansfield Park, Sense and Sensibility, and Northanger Abbey. I'm still editing the audio for Emma and Persuasion but there are a couple of novels by Emily Eden I'm releasing in the next few days that you might like too.
I relate to Elizabeth. It's like when you get a bill in the mail and you swear it's wrong and you call them and yell and they say, "Well, it doesn't say you OWE $335, it says you have a CREDIT". And you mutter "Sorry" and hang up and feel really, really stupid.

The woman who does the reading is wonderful. She makes the book so interesting.
Karen Savage is her name. She does many readings.
Thank god an audiobook version with a British accent. Perfect

I agree. I'm American and yet I believe American marrators should banned from narrating English classics; it's usually too dreadful.
@@mimi31268tried it .75 speed. I just can't do it, lol. She sounds so drunk that you could pour her into a wine glass.

I was surprised how well this was read for a free classic on TH-cam. I'm enjoying it, thank you!
Karen Savage is a legend
Your voice really embodies the characters well! Thanks for this wonderful reading ❤
Thank you, Karen Savage! I listen to Pride and Prejudice every night to help me relax to go to sleep. You are such a talented reader!
The Kids Healthy exactly what I’m doing.. you have to find the right narrator tho and I think Karen reads it perfectly.
The Kids Healthy - I also listen to this recording and her sense and sensability too
Karen Savage is an amazing reader 👍
I thought I was the only one who does this......
I do the same
I do too!
I enjoyed listening to this thoroughly. Thank you for bringing this story to life

Thank you for the upload. Listening to this, while sewing face masks in the middle of the pandemic. Certainly calmed my nerves.
Quarantine put me listening pride and prejudice to sleep because I miss listening human voice...

I listen to one of Jane Austin novels every nite. They put me to sleep. Love this one Emma and Sense and Sensibility. I’m wearing them out
Have you listened to the others; Northanger Abbey, persuasion and Mansfield park?
My favorite book. Now I can listen at work. Thank you so much.

The reading is bordering on gibberish. The narrator has a lovely voice but she's going 100mph. Slow down and let us enjoy the story.
Deryck Trahair play it at a slower speed
Andrea Deagon, that's a good idea. "Gibberish" was a bit severe & I regret using it. At that Tempo I couldn't relax & enjoy the beauty of the language. I'm not really a cranky old bloke. Thanks for making me think of WHY I didn't enjoy it. The lady has an excellent voice.& I'd like hear more of her.
Deryck Trahair I had the same problem with the 2005 movie version. I kept thinking, just slow down! Finally I went to closed captions.

Why on earth does the narrator ***read so fast***? I find this unbearable.
You can slow down the speed in settings
53:03
Chapter 32 - 4:48:05
5:32:39 / 10:34:25 Chapter 36
The Narrator speaks far too fast. This makes listening not as enjoyable as it would be if the Narrator had spoken at a slower and gentler pace. ☹️
Just decrease the playback speed from the settings if you find it's to fast for your liking....
I always slow the playback speed 1 down from “Normal” to 0.75, it’s perfect.
