if you want to FD burgers. Get the Pre cooked burgers from Sam's or Costco and just take them out of the package and right into the FD. When you want to use them. Just pore boiling water over them in a bowl. cover them all the way with water, and let sit for 2 min. use tongs, shack and place on the bun....works and tasted great. You don't have to cook while your camping!
I make my own sourdough bread usually 36 loafs a week right now and as for burgers they come out great I rehydrate with beef bullion, when I freeze dry burgers I line my treys with paper towels and lay paper towels on top for the splatter, it helps with clean up.
Yes to sourdough video! Just a suggestion, cook your burgers then freeze dry and reconstitute with beef broth (quick, easy and delicious), beef is one of my favorite things to freeze dry. Also, ALWAYS write "cooked" or "raw" on your burgers and chicken
Thank you!!! Someone else suggested cooking first too so I tried that and it worked so good!! Gonna do more for sure. And I have a sourdough video all set for Saturday 😄😄😄
Oh weird I didn’t notice grease when I did cheese! But yes, There was a layer of grease on my freeze dryer door - I haven’t evaluated the shelving unit yet 😖
I freeze dry brisket and that is a fatty meat - it turns out great. Maybe wouldn’t last 20+ years but it would a few years. I have rehydrated the brisket in Chili and it was so good.
Yes I’m sure you’re right about that. I wasn’t super worried bc both pieces were partially frozen but the hotdogs less than the burgers. Definitely would have beem Best to just re freeze them before putting them in the machine 😆
When I replaced my screen/usb drive it came with new updated software. And it had different basic settings than or older one did and I keep forgetting about it! Whenever I hit reset, it goes automatically to 0 freeze temp and 1 hour extra freeze time. I’ve been forgetting to adjust it for different things 😆
@ thank you. I’m thinking…I might try boiling them first. The meat sticks he loves are so expensive. My freeze dryer has yet to arrive. I’m so excited.
Might I suggest labeling it as "raw" burger so when you go to use it you know it needs to be cooked and not just reconstituted. You may only do raw now but if you happen to do cooked meat in the future there won't be any confusion.
Don’t know why your thumbnail says “flop” when your burger turned out just fine. I knew what to expect with the hot dogs having seen another Tuber do multiple types of meat and getting the same result with hotdogs (and bacon). I don’t subscribe to his channel, I don’t like him (whereas I do like you😍), but he’s been FD’ing for over 6 years. I suggest checking out those that have done these things before ruining your own food. I wonder about your Mylar bags… hopefully they’re good product and not a cheap rip-off. The guy I mentioned makes and sells freezedryingsupplies and his bags are a little thinner than HarvestRight’s 7mil bags, his are 5mil, but I have some of his and they do well. He warns against other non-descript companies that cut corners. Are they “true” Mylar or similar? Only Mylar bags are proven because they have aluminum surrounded by polypropylene. If there’s no polypropylene and just aluminum they may leak. I’m not an expert, but have been dealing with Mylar for decades (I put my comic collection in Mylar comic bags due to their archival quality). I’d rehydrate the burgers before going camping. What fun is camping if you’re not cooking the burgers above the campfire? Bringing water to rehydrate once there is an added weight to carry … assuming you go hiking. If you’re driving to a campsite for an outdoor cookout that’s a whole other experience. 😉
@@DIYfreezedry Really? was it a baby? I was thinking deer but that usually darker. I've seen moose up close as I got paid one winter to drive a pickup loaded with household goods from Seattle to Homer and the moose were THICK on the road between Whitehorse and Haines Junction. it's crazy to think that an animal that large has such small kibbles!
@@jamesyoung7560 it definitely could have been a young moose - we never saw the animal but saw the tracks in the snow which were definitely hooves. We don’t have deer/elk in our area, just moose & bears mostly! We may come across a Lynx or fox but definitely more rare. Porcupines too. But the most common friends we get in the neighborhood are moose and bear, the bears should be waking up soon 😆😆
Yes to a sour dough demo! Guessing Moose?
Moose you got it!

Such a good idea!!! Even better morning cook them! I’ll definitely try that
Yes pre cook them or buy cooked them freeze dry. Also who has time to cook in survival situations 😂 lol
@@shastafahnestockstyers2407 haha so true !!!
yes to the sourdough,
Awesome I’ll do one sometime!

The paper towels is a great idea! There is a grease mess in my freezer dryer now 😖 and now you make a ton of sourdough! Do you sell your loafs?
@@DIYfreezedryyes, I own Roses cafe in Healy, AK
@@davidsmith3325 oh that's awesome! If we are ever traveling through I'll be sure to stop by!
Great tip on the weighing and weighing the 2nd time. I was wondering how to do this
Awesome thanks, it is a nice tool to use!
Yes to the sourdough bread
Awesome I’ll start working on it!

Do you make your own sourdough starter? I'd love to see a sourdough video!!!!!
I got my starter from my In-Laws so I didn’t make it from scratch, but it’s been going well for me for about 3 years now!
Did you have a log of grease to clean off everything. I just did cheese slices from Costco and was amazed at how much grease I had to clean.
Oh weird I didn’t notice grease when I did cheese! But yes, There was a layer of grease on my freeze dryer door - I haven’t evaluated the shelving unit yet 😖
Love sourdough would love to learn how it do it

Here’s the new video 😁
thanks
Of course - thanks for watching!
Yes, I would love to se a sourdough video from you!!!
Can you freeze dry flat cut corned beef ? I know it can be a really fatty meat .
I freeze dry brisket and that is a fatty meat - it turns out great. Maybe wouldn’t last 20+ years but it would a few years. I have rehydrated the brisket in Chili and it was so good.
I love sour dough bread. I would love to hear your recipe
Awesome!! It’s so good. I’ll make a video sometime soon 😁
Love sourdough! I thought you shouldn’t put already frozen food with unfrozen food in FD together.
Yes I’m sure you’re right about that. I wasn’t super worried bc both pieces were partially frozen but the hotdogs less than the burgers. Definitely would have beem
Best to just re freeze them before putting them in the machine 😆
Most people rehydrate meat with a marinade of some sort vs just water.
Thanks for sharing that is smart! That would make it better 👏
I have tried and tried to make the starter. Always a total disaster. Help😂
We’ve done hot dogs before too and they were a FLOP! Lol even tried “veggie ones” our hamburgers did great though
Ok well I’m glad it wasn’t just me doing something wrong 😆😆😆 so glad the burgers worked though! I’ll definitely be doing more
AND….. You can use the lids to freeze dry on!👍
Thats another huge perk!!!
Do you know your initial freeze time is still off from doing candy?
Is it supposed to be off?

Our hamburgers did great
Oh awesome! I’m excited to do more
Definitely moose nuggets!
Yes you got it!!!
That is moose. I’m here in Idaho and I have the same thing in my yard.
You got it!!
Masha Allah so beautyfull video Allah Apko boht barkat de sister Ameen summa Ameen ❤️❤️❤️❤️💯💯💯👌👌👌👌👌😘😘😘😘😘

Would the hot dogs be ok for meat sticks? I’ve got a little autistic guy loves the meat sticks you buy.
@@T_Barb they’re edible but so greasy were not pleasant 😩
