my favorite part is how it starts as an awe inspiring moment kind of sound, like “wow look at the beauty of this crazy thing” (there’s a flock of birds flying on screen when it comes out of the clouds too, to drive home the majesty of the arsenal bird) but them the note carries for just a little too long, and then bends to a lower tone as it cuts to a closer look at the arsenal bird, giving the moment a really unsettling/disturbing feeling by the time you remember that you’re actually facing this monster. Really well done reveal
Fun fact: the flock of birds doesn’t despawn after the cutscene, it stays in the mission area. You can fly alongside it, it circles over one of the craters lakes IIRC.

Yeah, I love how alien and soulles at every way drones are in Ace Combat. They posses a hive mind in their movements, it's very sharp and not organic, it's like they are creating mathematical chaos only they can understand. On top of that, their engine sound is so alien! They really nailed it

Chills went down my spine upon the appearance of the Arsenal Bird. This is easily one of the best tracks of the game for the mood it's trying to convey.
First time unplayed this mission I was using the F14. Then that thing flies out of the clouds and drops 80 drones out from itself. Me: "Ah shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit"
I won't lie, the Arsenal Bird is one of the more realistic super weapons in Ace Combat. As an engineer myself, I can see this coming online in the near future as a good load of its tech exists. Ok fine, that bubble shield won't exist, but the rest of it is a concept the Air Force has explored, and an Arsenal Bird could very well be a thing. In order of how realistic I think the superweapons are: Hrimfaxi/Scinfaxi, Stongehenge, Arsenal Bird, Megalith, Solg, Arkbird, Excaliber, XB-0/Aiagon/other super planes.
Interesting you put Megalith so low, it's basically a multi-launch nuclear silo. Tactically it's not very feasable but as a piece of engineering it doesn't seem too farfetched, much less so than Scinfaxi which is a submerged aircraft carrier. (Hrimfaxi pretty much already exists as it had no aircraft launch facility). And Stonehenge? While railgun technology is working and fitted to some ships, a railgun which fires airburst projectiles (as opposed to inert rounds) over a full continent seems a huge leap?
Perhaps I feel that it probably easier to build Stonehenge than Megalith, but you are right. Perhaps Megalith and Stonehenge should be switched. The Hrimfaxi with aircraft is very much within the realm of engineering possibility. Even if it's not very... Uh practical. I'll admit I messed that part up. Though Railgun tech is certainly advancing quickly... You're right... Airburst rounds are probably not really possible.
I disagree about the Arkbird. I don't see any realistic way to keep something that big and complicated flying in the air nonstop for weeks without maintenance. Corrosion, worn gaskets, foreign debris would force that thing to the ground sooner or later. I'm not an engineer but I am an aircraft mechanic, and would be extremely impressed by any kind of engineering that would come anywhere close to accomplishing maintenance-free flight time the arkbird does, perhaps even more than pulse lasers and energy shields

It actually reminds me of the music that plays when the AIs lose their shit at the end of MGS2, now that i think about it. Actually, Arsenal Bird, Arsenal Gear, holy shit, i’ve found a connection XD
Trigger watched as the last bandit's plane was destroyed and breathed a sigh of relief. This mission was pretty easy. Almost... a little too easy. He heard all his Mage squadron members celebrating about the victory, boasting that it was too simple for them. But Trigger just frowned. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. His suspicions were confirmed as he heard a missile warning go off with his wingmen also yelling to evade. Pulling his plane downwards, he narrowly avoided the missile as it zoomed past him. He looked at his radar frantically but couldn't see anymore bandits. Then, Sky Keeper's voice filled his ears. "Caution! A large aircraft is approaching. All aircraft, stay alert." And then Trigger saw it; and his blood went cold. A giant plane flew out from behind a group of clouds, like a predator stalking its prey. Its sheer size was awe inspiring, with hardly any noise coming from it, other than the whirring of its contra-rotating propellers. Trigger knew what this silent menace was without a doubt. Sky Keeper then confirmed what he was thinking shortly after. "The Erusians are utilizing the power of the Arsenal Bird. Those bastards! They had it combat ready this whole time!" Despite knowing of its existence, Trigger still couldn't believe what he was seeing. He had heard about it beforehand, mostly through idle talk... but seeing it up this close was something else. Then, he noticed it started to drop multiple pod-like objects from beneath it's wings, not unlike a bombing run. But these were far from ordinary bombs, as evidenced when they flipped over, revealing their wings and ascended upwards. Trigger's HUD soon became littered with multiple target outlines, all bearing the same name: MQ-101. He surmised they were drones, seeing as no ordinary piloted aircraft could pull that off. It was insane how many had just been deployed at once; 20 of them, at the very least. He felt a chill go down his spine, but quickly shook it off as he knew he had his fellow wingmen to protect. Checking his weapon supply, he narrowed his eyes and applied full thrust, diving right into that swarm of mechanical monstrosities.

I can hear AC3 and AC6 on this one for sure, but this sounds more like Metal Gear Solid 2 than your usual Ace Combat music. Specifically MGS2's Arsenal Guts. It's kind of funny to think that Arsenal Gear and the Arsenal Bird presents really well as a menacing instrument of war- wait they both start with arsenal
Yeah a lot of the AC soundtracks reminds me of soundtracks in the MGS series. Possibly because both franchises are made in Japan, could be the same artists and studios.
Well, Arsenal Bird is named after an "arsenal plane" which was a concept the Pentagon announced in 2015 to carry additional weapons for stealth fighters. Beyond that, though, the concept appears to have been abandoned since there has been no further news on it.
The drone techno reminds me of Malebolge from AC6 - the Pasternak dogfight track. Also Ace Combat is just Metal Gear with planes, so similar vibes are a given.

I've listened through the complete soundtrack on Zap's channel many times. The more I listen to "Two-Pronged Strategy", the more it becomes my favorite. It's so different compared to the other songs in the OST. Plus it has those Electrosphere vibes. Thanks for the tunes, Hiroshi Okubo. And thank you for making them easy to listen to, Zaptroxix.

I don't think that in a million years I'd forget the first time I saw the Arsenal Bird with this music, those massive invincible monsters. That made destroying one of the Arsenal Birds at Stonehenge, and of course in Mission 19, feel so amazing.
I was replaying this mission a second time with the X-02s Strike Wyvern. I managed to take out all the Arsenal Bird’s propellers with the EML, and it just kept flyin’ like nothing ever happened. Darn.
I think its able to glide while the onboard self-repair works on its main props. Hell, in the Stonehenge mission, you have to keep shooting its main props because they keep coming back online

Up until that moment, I was a little bored from all the easy targets that were the previous planes. The moment I saw the Arsenal Bird arrive and deploy its drones, all I could think was "A real challenge. Now the party's gonna start for real."

I saw this thing the first time in my gameplay and was shocked that we were up against it so early in the game, as the fight continued I started losing hope, and this song didn't help.
I cannot describes the tingles this sends down my spine. When I first played Skies Unknown, I was alone in my house, at 3 in the morning. Already trying to decompress from an extremely long essay I had to write. Having had experience with superweapons from being a fan of the series, (Aigaion is best boi,) I wasn't too worried when I heard about the new arsenal bird. Then, the music stops, the house goes silent, and this long, discordant, low note starts. However, it doesn't stop. It just goes on, and on, and on. Only pausing to let you realize that this isn't just one mission. This is more than just a campaign. The threat that this beast poses is REAL.
It's not but I would like to believe it is Really it's a reference to Ace Combat 3, because Ace Combat 7 is about entering completely new age, and coincidentally AC3 timeline Also one of the arsenal birds is named Liberty
The Arsenal bird is one of the most interesting vehicles in the franchise in my opinion because of how it was first revealed in the game, it was glorious and intimidating as well how a gigantic aircraft which side is more than a kilometer that can carry 80 drones that are programmed to fly as the legendary ace pilot that took down thousands of enemy aircrafts Mihaly A. Shirage just imagine how terrifying it would be to see such a monster of an aircraft that will always stay in he air as it gets constantly resupplied with new weapons and fuel, the arsenal bird is in my opinion one of the most terrifying bosses of ace combat of course there are far worse but I think this is the one that humanity is closer to develop, hell maybe we can already make it that’s what terrifies me the most

The battle against Justice was harder, Liberty is a cakewalk. If you've never played before I can understand that sentiment, though. The AAM's are annoying as hell the first time you have to deal with them.
@@56bturn The only real threatening thing from the Arsenal Bird is the huge amount of AAMs it has, even the drones hardly bother you while you tail it. Meanwhile Aigaion had supports , had the Stigron team, had Nimbus Missles , Flak cannons, and was just larger and more imposing overall. AB has it's shield ... but it gets taken out by plot (not even by you) so it hardly counts.
Agaion and its supports could be taken out by RCLs. Its engines also seemed to come back online. Plus, the Strigon team wasn't all that threatening compared to other elite Squadrons. Not to mention, you can hear the crew of the Agaion and its support shitting themselves and getting desperate. The Arsenal Bird doesn't have that. It doesn't panic, you don't hear desperate chatter on the radio... it's silent. It's a machine. Its support are machines. Even when it sustains heavy damage, it doesn't panic. It doesn't express any fear. It's silent. Unfeeling. Fighting until the very end not out of desperation but because that's what it _does_. It won't run, it won't panic, it won't surrender and it certainly won't feel any pity for you.
Cyberlisk technically you wouldn’t be able to take the shield by yourself, which make it deadlier, as a result, if it wasn’t because the plot involved, you wouldn’t stand a chance against it.
The way this theme has a long, drawn-out keyed-low note repeatedly and it's for an "Arsenal-" enemy makes me wonder if this theme has any inspiration from the MGS2 Arsenal Gear theme.
Yeah, it's 100% a throwback to the Arsenal Gear theme. It's effectively an updated version of that theme from MGS2 and a wonderful little easter egg in another paramilitary-themed gaming franchise.

I can hear AC3 and AC6 on this one for sure, but this sounds more like Metal Gear Solid 2 than your usual Ace Combat music. Specifically MGS2's Arsenal Guts. It's kind of funny to think that Arsenal Gear and the Arsenal Bird presents really well as a menacing instrument of war-

Well, Arsenal Bird is named after an "arsenal plane" which was a concept the Pentagon announced in 2015 to carry additional weapons for stealth fighters. Beyond that, though, the concept appears to have been abandoned since there has been no further news on it.
The drone techno reminds me of Malebolge from AC6 - the Pasternak dogfight track.
Also Ace Combat is just Metal Gear with planes, so similar vibes are a given.
I definitely hear a lot of AC6s Aigaion battle in this track. It's fitting.
When I played this mission for the first time and this music kicked in when the Arsenal Bird showed up, it freaked me out and I'm like "Oh crap, shizzle just got real. WE GONNA DIE!"

I've listened through the complete soundtrack on Zap's channel many times. The more I listen to "Two-Pronged Strategy", the more it becomes my favorite. It's so different compared to the other songs in the OST. Plus it has those Electrosphere vibes.

I don't think that in a million years I'd forget the first time I saw the Arsenal Bird with this music, those massive invincible monsters. That made destroying one of the Arsenal Birds at Stonehenge, and of course in Mission 19, feel so amazing.

I was replaying this mission a second time with the X-02s Strike Wyvern. I managed to take out all the Arsenal Bird’s propellers with the EML, and it just kept flyin’ like nothing ever happened.
Darn.

I think its able to glide while the onboard self-repair works on its main props. Hell, in the Stonehenge mission, you have to keep shooting its main props because they keep coming back online

I cannot describes the tingles this sends down my spine. When I first played Skies Unknown, I was alone in my house, at 3 in the morning. Already trying to decompress from an extremely long essay I had to write. Having had experience with superweapons from being a fan of the series, (Aigaion is best boi,) I wasn't too worried when I heard about the new arsenal bird. Then, the music stops, the house goes silent, and this long, discordant, low note starts. However, it doesn't stop. It just goes on, and on, and on. Only pausing to let you realize that this isn't just one mission. This is more than just a campaign. The threat that this beast poses is REAL.

This is just metal gear music and I love it.
The Arsenal bird is one of the most interesting vehicles in the franchise in my opinion because of how it was first revealed in the game, it was glorious and intimidating as well how a gigantic aircraft which side is more than a kilometer that can carry 80 drones that are programmed to fly as the legendary ace pilot that took down thousands of enemy aircrafts Mihaly A. Shirage just imagine how terrifying it would be to see such a monster of an aircraft that will always stay in he air as it gets constantly resupplied with new weapons and fuel, the arsenal bird is in my opinion one of the most terrifying bosses of ace combat of course there are far worse but I think this is the one that humanity is closer to develop, hell maybe we can already make it that’s what terrifies me the most

The battle against Justice was harder, Liberty is a cakewalk. If you've never played before I can understand that sentiment, though. The AAM's are annoying as hell the first time you have to deal with them.

@@56bturn The only real threatening thing from the Arsenal Bird is the huge amount of AAMs it has, even the drones hardly bother you while you tail it. Meanwhile Aigaion had supports , had the Stigron team, had Nimbus Missles , Flak cannons, and was just larger and more imposing overall.
AB has it's shield ... but it gets taken out by plot (not even by you) so it hardly counts.
Agaion and its supports could be taken out by RCLs. Its engines also seemed to come back online.
Plus, the Strigon team wasn't all that threatening compared to other elite Squadrons.
Not to mention, you can hear the crew of the Agaion and its support shitting themselves and getting desperate.
The Arsenal Bird doesn't have that.
It doesn't panic, you don't hear desperate chatter on the radio... it's silent.
It's a machine. Its support are machines. Even when it sustains heavy damage, it doesn't panic. It doesn't express any fear.
It's silent. Unfeeling. Fighting until the very end not out of desperation but because that's what it _does_. It won't run, it won't panic, it won't surrender and it certainly won't feel any pity for you.
Cyberlisk technically you wouldn’t be able to take the shield by yourself, which make it deadlier, as a result, if it wasn’t because the plot involved, you wouldn’t stand a chance against it.

The way this theme has a long, drawn-out keyed-low note repeatedly and it's for an "Arsenal-" enemy makes me wonder if this theme has any inspiration from the MGS2 Arsenal Gear theme.
Yeah, it's 100% a throwback to the Arsenal Gear theme. It's effectively an updated version of that theme from MGS2 and a wonderful little easter egg in another paramilitary-themed gaming franchise.
