She really didn't go well singing alive, but in all songs she recorded with Wings her voice sounds very nice, very in tune and she had a very beautiful voice. Surely as time passed by she learned so much and got a large experience! I love her voice!

Paul said she was in the band before him and he loves her and she was going nowhere, he said it was never spoken about again. He had some interesting insights and clearly regretted walking out of the band. He only had good things to say about Paul.

Good that Paul persuaded Linda to stick with Denny on the more subtle backing vocals for the recording. Good also that Henry came up with that stunning structured guitar solo, rather than aimlessly noodling around.

I'm a linda fan all the way but this is terrible and before anyone says anything, would you go out and buy the single as it sounds with her singing, and play it over and over. Its terrible and an insult to the experienced musicians at hand who spent hours practicing at home to learn their craft, missing out on alot of life while doing so.

Paul has monitoring equipment right by his side but linda and Denny are far from any speaker in a really noisy environment as a crude rehearsal situation almost always is. Even close to the monitors, sometimes is not easy to hear our own voice in these situations. Not only this but she is obviously unsecure about what to do at that point in the development of the song, she’s trying to find her role in the arrangement.
Honestly, I think they were just messing around with the song to see if anything fell out that they could use in the final product. Obviously, a lot of what we hear in this rendition did not make it to the final cut, and a lot of things from the final cut are missing in this rendition.

You just need to listen RAM for appreciate harmonies' Linda. Since McCartney to Flaming Pie, you can listen her sweet beautiful harmonies. This' just a rehearsal! Even, Paul doesn't sing pretty good, you can see how Paul, in some moments, he can't sing high notes, different in the studio version where Paul sounds so melodic and he has a beautiful voice.
I got to hear Wings when they turned up at York University unannounced on 10 February 1972. The university couldn't make available the Central Hall for them to play in as it was already being used for something else so they made the decision to cancel the evening meal in Goodricke College dining room and they played there that evening. They were still very much in their infancy and had it not been for who Paul was the concert would have been most forgettable. They were still very rough and ready. Paul was wanting to get away from his Beatles songs at the time and so the only Beatles number they did was Long Tall Sally. Before singing it Paul said that this would have to be their last number as after singing it his voice would be done (or words to that effect)

My Dad was a natural misogynist. He was born in 41 & will have had an affinity with the Beatles. An audiophile, guitar player & owner of (now fabled) 70s record shops, we used to listen to music & talk about it a bit. He came out with, one time suddenly, Paul McCartneys put his wife/ gf in Wings/ his band. She can't do anything- play- nothing. All she's doing is jangling a tambourine + she can't sing. Seeing this has given me a laugh. Made me see what he might have meant, the f*cker 😂

Seen McCartney live several times over the year's including a rehearsal at the Playhouse Theatre London for his Flowers In The Dirt Tour. Also had my photo taken at the gates of his Windmill recording studio in Icklesham East Sussex. Known as the Hog Hill Windmill. Took us AGES to find it. Nearly gave up and went home. Went inside AR Studio 2 in 1983. Still got my photos on my wall taken in studio 2. I'm looking at them now "as I write this letter". Went up on the Apple rooftop in 2003 and 2009 also.

With Henry not playing the real guitar solo can i assume they had not recorded the song yet? I would think if they had made the record then he would have played his great guitar solo note for note, with Paul wanting him too.
Henry played pretty sloppy.. And according to concert records of that period Henry didn't play solos "note for note". I don't know if Paul demanded that he played accurately or not, but knowing Paul's perfectionism I can assume this. Even during their 1973 tour when "My Love" single had been already released Henry played the solo sloppy, expressionless... nothing to do with the original record. Unfortunately. Maybe, that's one of the reasons they soon divorced

Wow! I'm glad they didn't do this version when I saw Wings at Wembley arena back in 77.
Wings didn't play live at Wembley Arena (or live anywhere else for that matter) in 1977 nor 1978. Just saying....
@@bfquiroga I checked my ticket stubb. Wings played the Empire Pool Wembley on Wednesday October 20th, 1976. I was there. I sat on the West Terrace. Row H seat 40. Ticket cost was £3.50. Back in 1976 I was earning about £30 a week.
@@wanderer1955 oh, the lovely tour from the year before (1976). I wish I had been there like you were. A live Wings show in 1977 would have been amazing, but Linda's pregnancy meant it was not possible.
@@bfquiroga Yes it was my first ever rock concert, I was 21 yrs old. Been following the Beatles since 1963. Seen McCartney live several times over the year's including a rehearsal at the Playhouse Theatre London for his Flowers In The Dirt Tour.
Also had my photo taken at the gates of his Windmill recording studio in Icklesham East Sussex. Known as the Hog Hill Windmill. Took us AGES to find it. Nearly gave up and went home. Went inside AR Studio 2 in 1983. Still got my photos on my wall taken in studio 2. I'm looking at them now "as I write this letter". Went up on the Apple rooftop in 2003 and 2009 also.

I would guess here that Linda couldn't really hear herself. It was probably deafening. I know her vocals on the Wings recordings were spot on. Oh, and they're all stoned AF!
Thanks for posting. Always liked Linda as a person, but her singing here is fingernails on the chalkboard. Imagine this with a professional female singer in the band? What happened to the "perfectionist Paul" who drove John and George mad with endless takes of Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da? I suppose love can make anyone make silly decisions like allowing a tone deaf amateur sing on a splendid song like this.

@@potroatlantes True, but even in rehearsal, it's surprising to find a professional singing so poorly. And she was a professional in that she was by then making records and performing live.
This performance is awful, but some of her and Denny's combined vocals on record are sublime. They really added to the Wings sound. I think they'd all had a smoke before this, as the whole thing sounds a bit lacklustre and tired.

Linda would have sung way way way better if she would have been hearing herself at all, as she did from Ram to all the rest of studio and live records she got to sing on.
I’ve been on same situations in rehearsals all my life and I can assure you that EVERYONE, even the greatest accomplished singers will do shit if they can’t hear themselves properly.
Paul has monitoring equipment right by his side but linda and Denny are far from any speaker in a really noisy environment as is crude rehearsal situation.
Even close to the monitors, sometimes is not easy to hear our own voice in these situations.
Not only this but she is obviously unsecure about what to do at that point in the development of the song, she’s trying to find her role in the arrangement.

With Henry not playing the real guitar solo can i assume they had not recorded the song yet? I would think if they had made the record then he would have played his great guitar solo note for note, with Paul wanting him too.
Henry played pretty sloppy.. And according to concert records of that period Henry didn't play solos "note for note". I don't know if Paul demanded that he played accurately or not, but knowing Paul's perfectionism I can assume this. Even during their 1973 tour when "My Love" single had been already released Henry played the solo sloppy, expressionless... nothing to do with the original record. Unfortunately. Maybe, that's one of the reasons they soon divorced
During the rehearsals, Henry had played what McCartney told him to. But just before the final take with the orchestra, Henry asked Paul if he could try something different, and thankfully he agreed, and the rest is history!
