I was at Winterland for that show. The talk box blew everybody away. The band that came on before him was Man, a band from Wales. They knocked my socks off. They did so well Bill Graham brought them back the next week. I saw that show also. They were a truly inovative band.
Even if you never bought one, you had one. I think I have two. I don't know to this day where they came from. I never bought one. I heard someone say, if you moved to the suburbs you were issued a copy.
I just love Peter Frampton, a fine player and songwriter. I spent my childhood listening to Frampton Comes Alive then later on did a deeper dive. I discovered the studio version of All I Want To Be (Is By Your Side). The vibe is fantastic. It's really stony and goes deeper than the simple acoustic version on the live album. And of course, there is Humble Pie "Rockin' The Fillmore". He rips on that album. Very underrated player in my estimation.
I don't either. My sister has some of his albums, so I've heard some if them. They didn't sound as good as the live album. Some bands just don't make good studio albums, but really shine live. The J Geils band was the same. The live stuff is great. The studio stuff has no magic at all.
To think that the 2 greatest Rock concerts of the Rock era were performed at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco , just months apart , is to me unbelievably mind boggling ! Frampton Comes Alive and The Last Waltz ...The final concert by The Band where the cream of the 70's Rock world turned up to play and to wish them a fond farewell are the concerts and the rest is History as they say ! Music and musicianship of the finest grade possible , but only one was captured on film . Did the late Bill Graham film the Frampton concert for his personal collection I wonder , as he was famous for ? Someone must have some kind of film footage for Frampton Comes Alive .. surely ?
peter deserved to be in hall of fame years ago hopefully his induction opens the door for artists like billy squier who i think deserves to be in also. yeah yeah the video i know lol but billy is a great artist
I usually tend to pick up on things which most otherwise ignore - like what makes a band tick. Maybe this is why I got good at bass. The drums start it all and Stanley Sheldon’s bass playing on this record is a sparkling attribute of what made it great. Especially speaking, on Do You Feel Like We Do. It’s just SO good…and played on Fretless Fender Precision Bass.
The 70’s era had several double live albums that were very good. RUSH,FRAMPTON,REO,TED NUGENT,KISS,LYNYRD SKYNYRD,LED ZEPPLIN,J.GIELS ,BOB SEGER and FOGHAT. THEN PINK FLOYD the WALL. I miss Cobo Hall. Seen hundreds of concerts there
Peter Frampton’s use of the talk box was not groundbreaking. First of all, Joe Walsh was the guitarist who taught Frampton how to use the talk box. Joe had been using the talk box since late 1972. Jeff Beck was using a talk bag that he got from Stevie Wonder since 1973. The talk box and talk bag have different applications with the same result. Jeff used the talk bag in his group BBA. He would even speak to the audience with it. There are some much lesser named guitar players that were using the talk box even before Jeff and Joe and Stevie Wonder was using the talk bag with his keyboards in 1970.
Just because it wasn't the first doesn't mean it wasn't groundbreaking. People still hold Eddie Van Halen up as this groundbreaking tapping genius.. despite the fact itbhad been done by countless others previously.
Yuck ,It Was an LP for Teenaged Girls ,No Guy I knew Would Listen to it .Frampton is a Great Gtrist ,I listen to Humble Pie Rocking the Fillmore instead .
FYI, This is NOT a true live album! The reason it sounds so good is BECAUSE Frampton did numerous over dubs in the studio to the original live taped recording that was pressed to the finished vinyl record sold in the stores! Just like KISS did on their so called live album. So let's STOP with greatest live album ever nonsense!
So what is it then? If it was even partly recorded live then its not a studio album. No one is saying ita a completely live album, just a live album. You sound like you need to get some issues out of your system.

That live album is one of the best ever. Long live Frampton Comes Alive.
When he came out on stage, his performance was top of the line music in the 70s. ❤
Everybody had that album!!
& The Girls had the poster
I never did, because I heard it on the radio 24/7. But I did have his first two solo albums and he signed my original Frampton's Camel album!

One of the most enjoyable albums ever.
I can remember the day and where I was at when it first hit the radio waves. It’s still one of my favorite walking playlists

I loved PF in humble pie, too! Check out 'I Dont Need No Doctor,' with Steve Marriott. The live version is pure fire🔥
Thanks Peter and VRP for such an interesting discussion of creativity, recording and the famous talk box of fame.
It was pleasant music when we needed something pleasant in our lives.
I listened to the album obsessively in '76 when I was 10. I'm not even sure how I obtained it. It's no doubt etched in my deep memory.
It was shocking. Everyone just froze and became overwhelmed.
I don’t remember hearing anything from Peter Frampton solo material on the radio until the live album was released!

WOW!!..I've watched Alvino Rey before thinking that he must have been an influence to Peter Frampton. Check out Alvino Rey. He was insanely talented.

Some of us would know those bricks in that wall on Peter's t-shirt anywhere! Somewhere close to 520 M.L. King Blvd in Macon, GA.

If you went to a party at the time, Frampton Comes Alive, was playing.

77 concert with Lynyrd skynyrd
Feast your eyes on "Stringy" from 1944 -> th-cam.com/video/jPd9cxqKCVg/w-d-xo.html ( As Peter said, it's a bit odd )
All I wanna be.....
Swooped in to steal the fame Todd Rundgren had earned

Peter also said as much.

I hated this record it was a nightmare everyday on the radio in 1976 , Boston to
Too
The most over rated album in the history of L.P.s.

I always assumed it was entirely done in the studio with added crowd noise.
So what is it then? If it was even partly recorded live then its not a studio album. No one is saying ita a completely live album, just a live album. You sound like you need to get some issues out of your system.
Greatest live album, Bob segers. Live bullet. Cobo arena Detroit is the best o
Frampton himself disagrees with you...
Name one live album that is truly live. Probably isn't one.
