Jon, I love the discussion. One thing I noticed is that you and Flo keep talking about adding or changing the rules. The thing that you guys keep orerlooking is that the NCAA and all conferences cannot enforce restrictions that have not either been collectively bargained with the student athletes or passed into law by Congress granting the NCAA and the conferences to run a cartel dictating all the rules. The conversation here needs to be about negotiation with the student athletes. That’s the starting point for the rules of student athletes.
Jon, you cannot restrict student athletes from transferring. They are students first as no athlete can play collegiate sports without being a student first. I don’t understand the obsession people have to control players transferring simply because they want things to be the way they used to be. The way it used to be was entirely illegal as the NCAA has lost every lawsuit and told it can not operate as a cartel. The fact that this is collegiate sports matters none. There needs to be a collectively bargained agreement just like every professional sports league has. They can't dictate rules without an agreement unless passed by Congress and neither can any conference.
The NIL deals are for the year/season. Wisconsin 2024/25 season is over. It still doesn't matter! Once, he says, he wants to transfer. The school athletic department must submit his paperwork to the NCAA!
I don’t have a problem with him going to Miami, but I do have a problem with him breaking his contract. It sets a bad precedent. A regular student can can drop out of a school mid semester to transfer to another school, say they drop the classes mid way thru the fall semester, but they’ll have to wait to the following fall to enroll at the new school, AND they’ll have to re-take the classes he dropped. But we all know they’re not really going to class……
Great News JOHN, GO CANES 🙌🏼

My question is did he have an NIL deal while enrolled at Wisconsin and if so, what happens then?

According to the Wisconsin sites, he had a 2 year contract. Wisconsin may take him to court, where they probably would lose.
@ That 2 year contract was no good! It was signed before congress had vote this into law which is still a few months away!

@ are you a judge? Contracts are binding. That’s why they’ll probably take him to court to find out.
The pipeline stops today
