- Twisted Colossus is the Rocky Mountain Construction hybrid conversion of the former Colossus wood coaster. This RMC was designed by Alan Schilke and it features a unique quasi mobius design, as riders get two laps. While it doesn't duel as often as enthusiasts may like, this is still an elite coaster with a long duration, great airtime, and deceptive laterals.

I’d say Twisted Colossus is now markedly underrated among enthusiasts. For me it’s in the second-to-top tier of RMCs, which means it’s incredible.
I agree people underrate this one.
It does get frustrating to see guests taking 5 minutes to set their 14 suitcases of luggage off to the side, knowing we now have no chance at a duel. Out of my 30 laps over 15 rides, I've gotten a duel on a lap 3 times. I considered 10% an amazingly high percentage from all I was seeing. But I agree with you. Even when it doesn't duel, it's such an amazing ride. I have it in my top 15 overall, along with 7 other RMCs.
When it runs 3 trains, I usually can get a half duel roughly half the time.

Yeah, this is the best ride in the park. So underrated. The racing aspect is important for the best ride, but the airtime is insane nonetheless.
The airtime makes this ride regardless.
With the Six Flags and Cedar Fair merger, it is more likely that this coaster will duel. As Cedar Fair is now in charge, they will probably update all the Six Flags policies to fall in line with theirs. And this will positively impact the operations. Especially considering Magic Mountain is now their flagship park, we are likely to see a great improvement in operations here which will almost certainly include a strict loose article policy for Twisted Colossus.
I hope they can get this to duel consistently.
There was a certain ride op, I believe his name was Joseph, and he made it duel constantly, his crew was literally running to dispatch the train fast enough, loved that guy.

With SFMM being my home park, I kinda expected Iron Rattler to dethrone this as my favorite RMC when I took a Texas road trip back in March, but TC is still my favorite, it just has so many amazing airtime moments and, when off the lift hills, has amazing pacing
Iron Rattler has a few better moments, but Twisted Colossus has far more quality moments.
4:55 Yup, always blows my mind how.... inefficient people are with their movements. How lacking in awareness in their surroundings. Like, you're sitting there behind air gates waiting for your ride for at least a few cycles. Yet, it's mind blowing how many people are just clueless or slow when it comes to storing their bags and getting back in ride. Then add in the "don't pull down restraints" thing, ughhh maddening. I work myself up too much with that stuff; bad habit I got from my father haha. To be fair, that's a terrible system where you can't pull down restraint until it's locked. Like, it should just not lock and pop right back up until then. Love the video as always; been binging them.
That's why the moving stations are godsends. It gives people a sense of urgency.
Thanks for giving Twisted Colossus the props it deserved. I was in love with the classic version and although it took me a while I am now in love with the twisted version

I honestly don’t care if this thing duels or not it’s still great. The green wave turn is is my favorite part of the ride.
I honestly prefer the blue wave turn, but the green one is snappier.
Twisted Colossus is the best coaster at magic mountain and my favorite coaster in the world.. period. And it’s SOOOO amazing, the AIRTIME, EJECTORS, THE DROP, everything about this ride is ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! Hopefully they fix the problem in the near future about the dueling problem like they have for WCR! 🥰
I doubt they will ever fix the dueling issue on Twisted Colossus but the ride itself more than makes up for it.
Twisted Colossus is the coaster I have ridden more than any other. I have it just outside my Top 10 overall. It is my 5th favorite RMC of the 15 I've been on. I use to prefer it to X2 but I slightly prefer X2 right now. You are dead on with the fact that you can lap it at the start of the day. The best method to attack SFMM is Full Throttle once and then head over to Twisted Colossus and lap it for a good 60-90 minutes.
I sometimes start with X2 over Twisted Colossus, but you can't go wrong lapping either to start the day.
It was so exciting when this coaster opened. California (and the West Coast in general) finally got a strong airtime machine with powerful, forceful airtime. We had a plethora of inversion coasters but nothing that launches you out of your seat. The park, state, and region NEEDED this ride desperately! Can't believe it's already over 6 years old.
I'm glad SoCal finally got a true airtime machine.
I used to ride the original Colossus as a teenager in the 80's. Several summers they had it running backwards, and I remember marathoning this with friends. I haven't tried twisted Colossus yet though.
I only rode the original Colossus backwards oddly enough.
Personally I think enthusiests would rate this higher if the lifts faced opposite directions so they never dueled nor had dueling as an option. I also appreciate that you didn't blame the ops on not dueling. They're trying their hardest and it really bugs me when people complain that they are being slow when the issue is park policies on bags, park policies on ADA, Lap bar checks, and how strong the midcourse breaks are that day.
Even with instant restraint checks, duels wouldn't always be guaranteed if people take a while to get seated.
This was the first rmc I rode and it’s still my favorite out of the 4 I’ve ridden, my favorite moment is the ejector from the backseat you get on the drop below the green double down in the blue side

man i could talk about this coaster all day. i think a lot of people mistake tc for being a smaller coaster on first glance since its right up against a hypercoaster, but this this thing is a monster. every drop is perfect, the drops into the headchoppers are terrifying, even the prelift is super fun. this is a coaster i love riding dueling or not, going slow or fast. the hangtime on the inversions is great when its slow, but it pummels you with back to back ejector when its hauling. theres always a new standout moment on every ride you get. the ops are super passionate about this ride and on a good day they'll do everything they can to get the right dispatch times. and there is no greater dopamine hit than chilling on the green lift hill and seeing the blue side's train hauling up to meet you.
dueling rides are so interesting too, cuz on a regular ride im never focusing away from the track or the car ahead of me. but on a duel, youre always watching how the other train is going through the course, and youre getting hit with all the elements youre on, it makes it all the more chaotic. hanging upside down on the stall and seeing riders getting ejected up into you is so insane. ahh man i love this ride. it is such a masterpiece and im blessed to have it at my home park.
I agree it gets dwarfed by Goliath, but it is still a big ride. I do the same thing when it duels.
I agree 100% with you! On all points! But I've only been on 6 rmcs and this is definitely top tier!
Top Gun stall is my favorite inversion and makes the Green side better (splitting hairs as both sides are awesome). I do feel bad for larger guests as those trains are tight and there are a lot of delays because of riders to big for the ride slowing dispatches. The best inversion for any steel coaster is the Drop on X2 because of the uniqueness that you can't experience anywhere else at least in the states.
I agree that stall is amazing. It's one of my favorite inversions.

I have heard great things about this coaster and wanted to learn more about how the quasi mobius design (I wanted to see the exact point where the side switch happens out of fun and curiosity.
I knew Canobie Coaster would be the best place to find out. Definitely on my top 20 Bucket List rides.
I love the color scheme, especially with Scream and it's beautiful paint job next to it (reminds me of a college football battle of my two fave squads back in the day - Gators & and Canes Unit)

I rode this close to when the park opened, and we got the first ride on it for that day. What was funny was that I was riding in the very front seat, and 2 other people were riding in the very back seat (for that airtime). That was a fun birthday adventure.

The second lift hill is a bit of a pacing killer for me (especially when not racing another train), but the rest of the ride is fantastic. And when the stars align and you get a perfect duel on both sides, it truly is one of the best coasters out there!
i went 3 days in a row and i didnt get a duel :(
@@MaverickX2TC Ouch! Sorry to hear that! I was lucky in that the crew was really hustling the day I went. They were actively encouraging guests to load and unload quickly so that they could get more dueling rides out.

I definitely wish the green lift could speed up if there's zero shot at a duel, but it always crawls which can get a little frustrating.

I rode this a few months ago and was blown away by the airtime. I didn't care in the slightest that it didn't duel.

It has some great airtime.
I just rode this for the first time this weekend. It's my 2nd favorite RMC behind Steel Vengeance and ahead of Outlaw Run and Iron Rattler. The abundance of airtime, laterals, and whip was incredible. I did have a slight preference for X2 in the same park, but they're both top 5 coasters for me out of nearly 250. Both are absolutely elite.

Man I thought it was just refurbished like The Revolution but nope Twisted Colossus is a whole new beast and I loved it , totally worth it .

Colossus was really cool. When I was a kid it terrified me but by the mid 90s I had the courage to ride it. I honestly think it was one of the best coasters in the park. I had not yet ridden New Texas Giant when I heard about them making Colossus a steel coaster and I had not heard all of the praise that has now become standard for RMC. So I was honestly not happy in hearing that they had killed Colossus (in my mind anyway.) But it turns out I was wrong. Twisted Colossus is phenomenal.
It also serves as a prime example of the other reason why I love RMC. Not only does RMC make world classes coasters but they also serve as a nod to the fans of the original wooden coaster. That's why I actually like the fact that RMC coasters often reuse the previous name. I loved riding up to Magic Mountain and seeing Colossus. The structure was a spectacle. And since the structure is sort of still there and the color is still white I feel like Colossus isn't gone. It's just become more extreme and a bit twisted.
All the conversions have only improved the ride.
I love this coaster. It’s my number 1 overall. Sitting in the very back row is the best way to ride, as you get ripped over the first drop.
It's fantastic in any row, but especially the back.
I rode this for my 10th time last Monday and is by far the best coaster in California

I’m excited because I’m going in two weeks for the first time since 2016. I don’t remember much other than this being insane and bummed x2 was close. Hopefully it shoots up my rankings again

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Starfall Racers when it opens. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being even better than Twisted Colossus, especially since you should get a guaranteed race/duel every time & it will probably have a similar level of theming to VelociCoaster.

This an X2 make this park a fantastic 1 2 punch. Its an RMC so of corse its fantastic. It has ejector airtime, inversions, and a dueling aspect. It is so cool how 1 side interacts with the other. I just wished it would always duel. But even when it doesn't, it still is great going around the other track.
I personally think that the second punch at the park along with Twisted Colossus is Superman. Twisted Colossus has airtime, inversions, and a long ride length. Superman isn’t a long ride, but it has height, speed, and a fun launch, albeit forceless. X2 was way too rough for me to put it at #2 in the park
I wish it was programmed like West Coast Racers to wait for the next train so it could always duel, but it's great regardless.
@@justiceleaguebattleformetr9239 Have you tried in inside seats Rows 1-5 much less rough and enjoyable. Outside seats and rows 6-7 are not for the faint of heart that's for sure. But really there is no experience like X2 and the forces it brings.

Interesting you only rode the original once. in 98 I rode Colossus so many times with my bestie we wore it out LOL. I don't know what it was as it really was an average coaster but we just totally enjoyed it and also got a midnight ride, the very last on a Saturday night (or maybe it was 11pm but damn it was late). But only forwards! we never got a backwards ride..Believe it or not it was smooth as anything too. TC is more than a fitting replacement, it is exactly what anyone could have hoped for and then some. So good.
I'm glad I got to ride the old one even if the RMC conversion is way better.

I talked to employees who work this ride and they said that pushing these heavy brick lap bars down is quite a bit workout and they said they will staple people so they can get a duel also to get the maximum success rate for a duel ride at night
I encourage anything to get the duels.
I mean it I treat when you get the opportunity to duel but sometimes dueling can be scary especially if your have to swear at somebody to put their phone away on the other times and as a person who visits every 1 to 2 months I regularly see phones flying and from past experiences I have nearly gotten hit with glasses phones or wallets
What I don't get is why they don't stop the train before the second half (or make the second lift slow down even more to ensure dueling) if the dispatch takes too long. At least when running three trains this should not slow down operations considerably if I'm not mistaken - if the dispatch is too slow you will have to wait anyways and it does not matter much whether you're waiting at the bottom of the lifthill or on the final brake run. And since the dispatch after you was too slow, it is highly likely that you willreach the station before the crew finished that next dispatch, so you'll have to wait on the final brakerun without having dueled the other train.
I wish they did that stop.
absolutely, tho it's RMC's first and only dueling coaster so I do give them some slack
Before watching: TC is still the 2nd of only 2 RMC's I ridden to this day. I rode it in late November 2019 (the 1st and only other RMC being Steel Vengeance in late May 2018.) I managed to ride in every car of TW and discovered I prefer the back car (row 11 or 12). On SV I only rode it in row 9 (car 5) once; row 7 (car 3) once and all eight other times in either row 11 or 12 (car six).
So far: The only coasters I've ridden I'd rank higher than TC are six: #1: Steel Vengeance; #2: Behemoth; #3: Millennium Force; #4: Ghostrider; #5: Coaster at Playland; and #6: Leviathan. Twisted Colossus comes in as being the 7th best coaster I've ridden IMO. #8: X2; #9: Gatekeeper, #10: Riddler's Revenge; #11: Top Thrill Dragster, #12: Raptor; #13: Maverick; #14: The Smiler; #15: Icon; and #16: Yukon Striker. I was just there last weekend and I am love with this coaster just as I was with the classic version. I actually called out to everyone loading “c’mon you guys move your a$$es or we won’t get to duel!” I was half kidding but for some reason a lot of people took me seriously and threw their bags in the cubbies and ran and jumped in the train. We got a sort of duel the first time around but got a full duel the second time around! Why was I afraid if this version before? I don’t know

It's very close, but I prefer this ride. There's more to Twisted Colossus.

No doubt Twisted Colossus has some perfect RMC elements, but since it didn’t race when I rode, the second lift hill was just a buzzkill. After all, we’re not talking about a mine train here. This is why I have X2 as my favorite in the park

I can’t stand when people try and lower the restraints before hand I don’t notice it much on roller coasters but I notice it quite a bit on Twister
A lot of rides don't have a problem if riders do that. RMCs do.

That's entirely fair. Technically Voyage is longer too and that's a hybrid. But Six Flags claimed it was the longest.

The original was a classic, I get the need to improve, but was sad to see it go. I like this revision, except for the restraint system and lack of any handlebar. That really bugged me.

The ops on this coaster (and park as a whole) need a lot of work. I was there in September. The park was super crowded most of the time, long lines, and they were consistently dispatching trains at 60-70% capacity, with no effort being made to fill in empty seats. None, whatsoever, at all. I love this coaster, but I hate this park, and won't be giving Six Flags any of my money for many, many years to come.
I have to disagree with the back being the best seat. My first ride was in the back, and then I never sat there again. Best seat is row 3. Row 1 is good, but row 3 is best.
I'm tall, 6'3", so maybe that is a factor, but I get barely any air time in the back. However, I get tossed around in the front and row 3. On the first drops, I like to shift my body weight all the way forward so I'm basically doing a swan dive out of the seat on the drops. Then the rest of the ride, I flex at the hip so my feet and legs are lifted off of the seat, and use my forearms to wedge myself between the seat and the lap bar. Basically makes it so I'm just kind of floating, instead of sitting.
Zero g roll is very violent. If you ride like I described above, and have a package, be smart and protect said package during the zero g roll. It's a dick-clipper.
I know this park's operations can be spotty. I usually visit on quiet days, so that isn't a major issue for me. I agree the zero-G roll is violent.
Thsi is probaly the 2nd best Hybrid coaster after Steel Vengeance.
I prefer Untamed as well, but Twisted Colossus is up there.

I went during this spring break on a sunday and the crew was hustling and i got duels on all 3 rides. Prob because spring break idk.
Used to be my number 1 but now tatsu replaced it lol

If TC did what X2 does about loose articles it would race 100% of the time. Its like they have no brains....SFMM trains their employees to hustle on TC but dont understand that doing what they do on X2 would solve the "sorry maybe next time you'll duel" problem....
