    This brings a tear to my eye, A PROUD TEAR! I'm proud to be born and raised here. This is OKC!! This is just a tip of the iceberg what we offer. There is so much happening here and we offer so much diversity it's difficult to touch on all the growth. Thank You for doing this, it was done very well!! I'm have always been proud to be an OKIE, now even more.

      Bruce Lee my goodness. Where do live? We don’t get hurricanes, snow rarely happens and we have the most eco systems of any states outside of California and Texas.
      You want hills and trees/forrest? We have that on east side of OKC/Edmond/MWC/Norman areas. Like flat? West side of the city. OKC has a ton to offer and why it’s still one of the fastest growing cities in US to this day.

    This was just awesome! It brought back good memories. :) I remember when I was 12 I loved going to the climbing gym...the adrenaline rush I got from climbing then jumping off those walls was great! Okc is a great place and I'm so happy someone else sees the good things here and not just bad! Thanks so much for this!

    I'm from Argentina, I am 13 years old, I love the Thunder so I became interested in OKC and it's culture. I would like to live there one day, and I tell my parent I want to go on holidays, however they do not let me.

      I am from Uruguay and I want to go there too. It looks like a cool city. I would like to go to a Thunder's match to appreciate a NBA team playing.
      I don't know why I have written this in English because we both speak Spanish but it is good to me to practice English haha.
      Saludos desde Uruguay!

    Thank You for this video, and the look at Startup Culture in Oklahoma City.
    I actually find it rather funny that the video opens with mention of Portland, Oregon. I am in the process now of preparing for a relocation to Oklahoma City from Portland, Oregon at the end of this Summer.
    Portland has become quite expensive and inhospitable to small business, with even more policies that will negatively impact small businesses and their employees currently on the table. ("Sidewalk tax," Additional taxes for businesses that stay open after 10pm...Sheesh!)
    As someone self-employed with multiple e-commerce outlets, and dreams of brick-and-mortar, Oklahoma City caught my eye, due in part to all the glowing press, recommendations from friends who have lived there, and the incredibly low (Comparative) cost-of-living.
    My partner, also an entrepreneur, and I will be moving in September to see how it works out for us. I'm very excited to experience Oklahoma City, and get to networking!

    Wonderful to see my city shared like this. I've been away for years now, hoping to one day return. There have ALWAYS been great things about the city, but they were hidden and small bootstrapped affairs. Those same people that made do with nothing and made great (but small ) things, are the ones that pushed and guided the development of these big things that are going on today. Couldn't be prouder of the folks of OKC.

    this is my beloved OKC. this is the only place i can call my home town after my birth place in islamabad, pakistan. i lived there for 18 years and loved it every single day. i hope one of these days i will find my way back. i must say, oklahoma city was in ruins under frank keating and town was only good for GOOD OLD BOYS, but after that in early 2000s it started a transformation. i hope and pray that oklahoma keep growing and become best of the best.

    Dude, do a part two...you missed H&8th, Dead Center Film Festival and others. You really should have talked to Mick Cornett (current mayor), Kirk Humphries and Ron Norick who really sold MAPS to help make OKC what it is today. But all in all, a fair representation about OKC and where we are headed!

    • @Thecoolist
      @Thecoolist  10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for chiming in, OKCgal1! We were pretty upset that we weren't in town during an H&8th fest, that would have been a pretty ideal fit for our show. Time was very tight when we were in town, and I'm happy with what we were able to cover in the short time we were there. More would have been merrier, but with the resources we had, I hope we came as close to the bullseye as possible!

    I have driven an 18 wheeler over the road for 36 years in all 48 states, and can also say, people in Oklahoma are friendly-unlike the folks in some states. OKC drivers could be a bit more considerate to big trucks-please? We bring everything to OKC. All in all, friendly people all over the state.

    I call Hogwash on the city mowing the ditch 3 times a year. I use to raft down this river (North Canadian) as a kid. Granted, they made a part of it nice, but made upstream pretty much useless as far as kayaking and such. I feel they could do soooo much more along the banks of the river, not just in the boat house district.

    I'm an okc native and you missed some of my favorite parts of the city! There is an art group called factor obscura building collaborative art experiences that mirror larger works like meowwolf in Santa Fe. The okc underground is a network of artsy tunnels that house coffee shops, restaurants, etc all below downtown.

    Amazing how its all changed down there. 35 years ago it was a ghost town. No bricktown. No canal. Downtown shut down after 5. Parking garages all empty after 5. Nothing along the river that you wanted to see. Now something new every month.

    excellent video, thank you. I have been offered a position at.....one of the colleges in OKC. everything makes sense from a cost of living standpoint, growth, commute times!!, etc. I am very nervous, I visited, and it is an amazing place, beautiful, and extremely kind people (in comparison). What it is like to relocate to OKC from a large area? anyone have that experience? tips? great opportunity but also a huge decision leaving family and everything I know....thank you in advance

    • @nursy7523
      @nursy7523 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recently relocated from the NY area to Oklahoma this past December for a better work opportunity as well. I agree that the people are much kinder although I did leave behind some pretty amazing people. It definitely is a bit of an adjustment since I was used to all the advantages of a bigger city -- miss my NY pizza at 2 am. I am not sure where you are looking to live but the Bricktown area has a pretty decent nightlife and it is close to museums and the Civic Center. Good Luck in your transition and hope you enjoy it as much as I have been.

  • @Thefatveganchef
    @Thefatveganchef 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very cool. Would have loved to see more. There are other areas growing and expanding. OKC is at least trying to get with the modern times. If only the taxpayers would bring in more capital and there were loans that could be made especially on the infrastructure A lot of the roads and designs are still from the 50s and that is going at a snails pace to improve and expand, and even then it is just a band-aid on a gushing wound.

    • @Thecoolist
      @Thecoolist  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for weighing in! I agree with you that there was more to see than we could have hoped to cover in one visit. I would have loved to have covered events like H&8th, that could have made for some great video. We saw a bit of Midtown and the Plaza District, but we didn't have time to film in Film Row, Automobile Alley, Paseo, Deep Deuce, even Bricktown. I'm pleased at what we covered in the time allotted, but there's a wider story to be told there. I'm eager to watch it play out in the years ahead from afar.

      Have you been downtown lately veganchef? Complete traffic and pedestrian redesign. Maybe you missed the crosstown I-40 bridge that has been demolished and replaced by a sexy 5 lane section that is below grade. Not sure where you are driving, but it is a far cry from the way it used to be and it has all happened in the last 5-10 years. Hardly a snails pace.

    • @Thefatveganchef
      @Thefatveganchef 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HyperBlueZYZ I am downtown very often. I-40 and the bridge is a good start and long overdue. You should see the ODOT 8 year plan for the highways.
      www.okladot.state.ok.us/cwp-8-year-plan/cwp_ffy2014-ffy2021/cwp_ffy2014-ffy2021_OCARTS.pdf
      240/I35 should have been redone 10+ years ago, their plan for it is just a baindaid and unimpressive. The plan for 235/44 is going to take 7-10 years to complete which is another headache and accident prone area. The bottleneck in Norman is a year and a half into getting taken care of and it is another area that should have been done 10 years ago. Believe me, compared to other cities that will actually spend money and take out loans OKC is slow and does not spend nearly enough on infrastructure.

    • @HyperBlueZYZ
      @HyperBlueZYZ 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OKDOT is a state agency. 1)This video was about Oklahoma City, which has little to no say in what the state agency does with highways. You'd need to look to state government for that. 2)Norman is not Oklahoma City. 3)You're right about 235/44 being a traffic nightmare, but let's see you come up with a better plan to address it without causing even worse traffic for commuters in the process. 4)None of these are OKC infrastructure issues.

      Hi Carol! Seamus Payne here. I certainly didn't want to be irreverent to the sanctity of the monument. When the crew and I arrived, there about a hundred or so visitors walking up and down the rows of chairs, looking at the names inscribed in each one. I followed along, reading each name as I explored the site. Had these chairs been sectioned off, or the visitors stayed entirely on the inner path, I would have followed suit. In short, the crew and I approached this place with honor and respect, and I certainly hope I didn't tarnish it!
