Until I retired, I worked at a job (over 41 years) where I was paid the next to last day of the month. I paid everything in my budget, all bills and savings. What was left was what I had for the month for anything else. It worked great. Retired now - I get 3 pay checks, SS and 2 retirement funds, all on different days of the month. It is more of a challenge for me to know when I have extra money I can put in savings or possibly buy something we want (updating house, etc). There are benefits to both ways. WIth 1 payday, I knew what I had left. With 3, I always have some money coming in. I think I prefer 1 pay day and no, I can't change any of the days I get paid on.
Can I just say we don't hear enough about the new parent overwhelm, lack of sleep - that's the chaos first and foremost, know that, then move forward with that knowledge with your budget. Peace will come from feeling into the new parent saddle, breaking it in everyday. Seriously, when you don't get enough sleep, everything can get really whacky in reactivity. When you know that, you'll have a little more compassion for your state, you'll find some humor, you'll know it will pass. We were able to move forward with step 2 in that time of life, with recognition of this.
My opinion too. His bonus or commission check whatever it actually is, covers every debt he just stated. He wants to buy something big and pay cash for it. The check is already burning a hole in his pocket.

$200k joint income with 2 kids in Boston is actually not much. Boston has some of the highest childcare cost in the country and the cost of living is incredibly high. Although agree that a $3200 deductible isn't that bad especially since you have a 9mo runway to save for that.
Trust me you have to do the poor man's tax shelter. Taxes will eat that up. I got a raise and make six figures I put a large amount in 401k to avoid giving it away in taxes
First, $200K total household income is NOT a lot in Taxachusetts, esp. if you own a home near Boston. Second, does no one understand how health insurance works? They have to pay 100% of the bills up to $3200. Then insurance steps in and pays probably 80% up until they incur $6800 out-of-pocket for the year. So their total debt is going to be $11,800. $6800 is not insurmountable but is a sizable chunk if you don't plan for it. With a nearly 9 month warning period, you might think they'd prepare a little better but........
Even with insurance you would be suprised we had bad insurance we paid like 30k in one year in medical... deductible isn't all you pay... however yes this guy makes crazy money and is an idiot
80/20 for in-network, $3K max out of pocket 60/40 for out of network, NO max out of pocket. In-network $100K>> reduced to $50K>> $10K. $3k max out of pocket. Out of network $100K>> NO reduction>>no out of pocket max>>$40K owed. Wife got sick, in network, 140 miles away

Sell it. You already lost the 4k regardless. Go debt free, save 1k, then save 3-6 months of expenses. Finally then work towards that corvette in the future paying cash along side investing.
do you love the vette? or do you just love how much you saved or lost on it? money wins and losses come and go every day. if you love the vette, keep it. if you dont, cut your loss. use most or all of your savings to pay down your jeep. keep back maybe 1k or 2k for emergencies. then set up a plan to pay off your debts and you'll know the end date. then get creative and smash it down. or in a few months if it still burdens you pay it all off. you'll definitely see savings with no debt dragging you backwards.
First reply about eating the loss on the Vette is spot-on. In business it’s called sunk-cost: it’s money that’s gone no matter what decision you make, so it shouldn’t influence the decision at all. That said, if you love the Vette, it’s not worth letting it go over five grand. $15,000 is chump-change compared to what a lot of Ramsey callers are facing. Cut back your spending dramatically until the end of the year and pay the Jeep off as a Christmas gift to yourself. Since you asked what Dave would say, I’ll add that he’d probably chew you out and make you swear never to finance a car again 😊
That is WILD tye American health care system is wild . . . I had a baby last year, know what I paid out of pocket? $130 CAN, and that's only because I had a private room and stayed more than 3 days. If I would have opted for semi private I would have paid nothing. Or if I'd had needed to stay one less day I would have paid nothing.
Yeah this isn’t making sense to me. He said they are on BS2, which means they should be down to a very strict budget and paying off debt. He then says they were putting $1000/month into the credit card debt and that’s good, but with no other debt it should be way more. They must be bringing home north of $10k/month, which should leave them with several thousand leftover to pay off debt. They aren’t serious enough about the program.
Canada has the best healthcare system designed healthcare for all so no one goes without it so does Europe. Just a recent case mother last her son it was a brain aneurism took the kid had surgery and died at the operation table. He had no medical as parents are making above poverty line. Mom works as a caregiver They both make above minimum wage but son did not qualify for medical. Mom’s work doesn’t offer medical dad’s work insurance charges $500 per family individual which was big portion of his paycheck. Not only they lost their son but now the bill came for $230 k for few days of hospital stay.
If you pay private, you get seen to quicker. But I can tell you as somebody living in the UK, we don't need insurance and we don't pay extortionate amounts for health care. And in fact, you may just find that our national health service performs better than hospitals in the US. You have to pay just to hold your baby in some hospitals in the US! Are you crazy?!
Are you telling US healthcare system if they are crazy? They are smart they know how to make money off of general population who by life’s tragedy end up in their trap. I spoke with a nurse who last her life savings after she was diagnosed with a terrible disease. She last her house and now is starting from button up. Thanks to the system. Is that crazy or what?
This guy makes ZERO sense. The money is already spent before he HOPES to make $200K a year with both incomes. Living above your means makes even upper income households feel broke.
Another reason to pay off debt so you don’t have to worry about a bunch of “What Ifs” If your water pump does go, if you have no debt, you can throw money at it without worrying about other bills!
For anyone confused the home she sold was not 1.6 million. It was valued at way less and she managed to sell it for way more. Also if you don’t do well financially it is probably difficult to fathom someone paying 60k a year when you yourself have never made that. This is not a man who would be paying $50 a week in child support. He would probably be paying $2000 a week or more in child support based on his income. For her to be awarded 60k yearly that means he A. Makes a great income and B. She did not work and was a stay at home mom for the benefit of the family and children and therefore has no career, would be living in poverty and has no way to make a decent living due to giving up all of her good work years. Not to factor in I don’t know who caused the divorce but if a man cheats or is physically abusive and the woman divorced him or if a man chooses to divorce a lady for whatever reason and she now has no career, what should she do? The courts are working in her favor for a reason. Clearly whatever the situation was, it makes sense to the court that she should be able to live comfortably. She is even still choosing to work what she can (babysitting) to earn. Imagine if she was just a babysitter now. How long could she even do that at her age? She probably has no retirement, no 401k. She would be loving terribly when elderly with no job etc
How do they have any debt at all when they earn $200,000 a year? They spent over a year paying $1,000 a month toward credit card debt and nothing toward medical debt? They make almost $17,000 a month and he hasn't paid off either of these debts? He either doesn't make $200k or he lacks common sense.
I wish Dave would’ve let John handle most of this call. There was obviously something emotional going on here. Yes he did say he didn’t want to not have cash on hand but John would’ve delved into the why
My wife and I make $87k gross a year. I save on a perfect month $1,125. My written budget is so air tight. The 4th week of every month I save 100% of that entire paycheck. I sacrifice a lot to save money to attack our debt. I have no credit card debt. Problem with this caller is, he has no money to fall back on to pay off his debts. He feels the people he owes to. Are coming after him. Stressing him out. It's really all in his head. You have to change the way you view money. That starts with looking in the mirror with telling yourself to control your behavior. I would love to make $200k a year like this guy makes. Im finding many of these high income callers. Just know how to do their occupation well. And have no clue what to do with their money. Let ‘em figure it out on their own.
I hope the caller takes the advice. He sounds like he feels trapped but folks with high incomes need budgets too.
This guy lives above his means like most people. He just happens to make a lot. It’s that simple.
Yes ! Well said, Dave 😂 Have yourself a plan !
No health insurance but great incomes,,,that is the first purchase when you start a family bro.
Yes, a nice new BMW is $1,500 to service.
1500$ may be the dealer price but take to a more qualified independent shop like me be half that remember most dealers only got one certified employee and 5 flunkies
New BMWs come with free maintenance so idk lol
@@Mwap439 Said a car salesman. The first few years of minimal coverage is just a hook to get you on board.
No it's not.
@@Mwap439yea, just oil changes nothing else
Our baby cost like 20k 😅 this guy
Same! Right????
Mom’s deductible, then babies deductible! Those damn hospitals.
There’s something else going on, otherwise this was a really weird call.
My opinion too. His bonus or commission check whatever it actually is, covers every debt he just stated. He wants to buy something big and pay cash for it. The check is already burning a hole in his pocket.
Probably young and exaggerated his income. Living on commission can be very stressful, lots of ups and downs. He needs a budget and an emergency fund to get baseline and manage.
Not necessarily. Some people are just anxious. My best friend and her hubby work for themselves. Taxable income of 200K+, 1.2M in portfolio, more than $100k in savings. They are constantly worried they don't have enough for the future and will never be able to retire. It's a mental issue.
Bro doesn't even know what real problems are
He is the problem
Funny seeing you here, didn’t figure the guy who recommends 3 different rifle a week is also financially responsible 😂
Ain’t no such thing as real problems. If it’s real to him it’s a real problem
@@claytonmarkin7863 I didn't use to be but I kinda am now lol... I grew up on Dave but had 10 surgeries and 5 diagnosed health conditions before 35 so I know what struggle is and debt.
No I never got a penny from anyone but I built several businesses in the last 3-4 years and got out of medical debt so I go nuts on spoiled ppl lol. I used to go in debt just to buy a rifle to do content on only to be put down. I feel bad for people with low income working hard that have crap medical luck like i did. However, people who have little real emergencies and or make good money piss me off when they cry. Also people who live off the government or litigation piss me off that can work just fine.
14 years ago I was making $7.25 an hour with no benefits working some of the worst jobs in the United States living in Flint Michigan so most peoples excuses don't work on me. Lived in 800 sq/ft rentals until 2 years ago. Worked in Law Enforcement.

200k, but have no savings?
It makes no sense. There are people earning $50k who have more financial smarts than this guy.
Dave is absolutely right! If I had all the interest money that I paid on house, car, and especially charge cards…we would have an extra million in savings. Just do it and don’t do what we did.
Had almost 9 months to get the wife's insurance lined up but didn't get it done
I was married to someone like this. No matter what, he'll find a reason to be stressed about money. We had no debt and hundreds of thousands of dollars and he'd be trying to convince me to let him get rid of the above ground pool that the kids loved because of the water bill. Then...make a 20k deposit on next year's snow mobile
Best Title Ever.
How can someone be bright enough to earn good income be so clueless?
You don't have to be necessarily bright to make that much in sales.😂
Income has nothing to do with intelligence.
He's 100% right. As soon as I made a budget for myself, I felt like I got a raise. Also, I have a bonus check coming and I have plans for it, too. It's going towards my debt. 100% of that bonus will be paying off as much and as far as I can stretch the money. The 'old' me would've been thinking about all of the new tech I could purchase.
Making a budget does not give you a rasie.
@@jimmymcgill6778 Reading is fundamental... Obviously, I KNOW I didn't get a raise... I said it feels like it, meaning that I actually have more money in the bank after paying the bills. You missed the point.
3:14 Dave says the guys $200K salary should have a $15K a month take home pay and $18K a month total without taxes. Correct me if my math is wrong but isn't $200K divided by 12 months = $16,666 and not $18K? Am I missing something with how Dave is calculating that?
He misspoke but the take home pay should be 5000 or more per check semimonthly thats assuming there are things being taken out of their check. 3200 shouldn't make you stress out
How can someone make so much money and have no clue about finances?
The ability to make money doesn’t make you intelligent especially if it’s a sales job.
Lifestyle inflation is very real. The more they make, the more they spend. They have a consumer’s mindset.
Maybe because that person has no money at all!!!! And that person thinks that money is not out there and there’s nothing that person can do about it?!!!!! And people don’t care about finances at all!!
If being completely mathematically incompetent can make 200K a year, I can use a calculator even...no wonder I'm broke !!..
hes probably in sales.
I like the teacher reference as if they don’t make much. Which some don’t. But nearly all teachers are millionaires they day they are hired by virtue of the value of their pensions in retirement.
200,000 a year and 4500 bucks has him talking like he’s buried alive
I wanted him to tell John that he can't breathe.
Adhd probably
times r hard lol
$200k joint income with 2 kids in Boston is actually not much. Boston has some of the highest childcare cost in the country and the cost of living is incredibly high. Although agree that a $3200 deductible isn't that bad especially since you have a 9mo runway to save for that.
We’re paying off $10,000 in debt and made $80,000 gross in the last year. There’s no excuse to make 200k and can’t pay off a few thousand 😭
If I made $200,000 annually, I'd be saving $160,000 of it annually. What a fabulous income.
LOL - no you wouldn’t - there’s this thing called taxes.
Trust me you have to do the poor man's tax shelter. Taxes will eat that up. I got a raise and make six figures I put a large amount in 401k to avoid giving it away in taxes
I love these calls, he didn't even know what his take home pay is.😊 double 6 figure salary and no savings..wild!
3200-8000 bucks is nomal out of pocket labor delivery.
I think there is a natural feeling of panic when you go through the baby steps. That being said he needs to MAN UP!
$1500 for a car service 😮 Throwing money into chaos!
What's the market got to do with it? ????????????????????????????????????????
Didn’t notice how tall John is till this video. I’d like to hear about what happened with his wife and the health insurance
I heard that on the purple podcast app the next day it was on and I was like bro just pay it off while being in baby step 2 as well 😂
4:38 "I'm aghast" 😂😂😂
$200k gross is $100k in the People's Republic of NY after tax.
Still, making 6 figures 3k shouldn’t be a problem lmao
No, it's not.
It's 150k. You know you can just Google this stuff, right?
80/20 for in-network, $3K max out of pocket
60/40 for out of network, NO max out of pocket.
In-network $100K>> reduced to $50K>> $10K. $3k max out of pocket.
Out of network $100K>> NO reduction>>no out of pocket max>>$40K owed.

Can anybody give me advice… I bought a 1980 corvette back in 2017 for $9000 people have offered me $5000 cash.. the only debt I have is my Jeep which I owe $15,000 on it… i have $10,000 saved if I sell the corvette that’ll give me enough to pay it off… only thing holding me back, is because I bought it for “$9,000” and I’ll be losing “$4,000” on it but I’ll be debt free… what would Dave Tell me to do.??
This caller IS NUTS!!! Period.
😢
Master Card be your master and American Distress Dave is spot on
With what you are making after paying off all debt you can then build up an emergency fund very quick.
reminds me of the spider i rescued yesterday. he wouldn't come out of the shoebox.
Poor planning, and no control equals chaos.
If they don't have an emergency fund, they're not on Baby Step #2...
John is gonna ask are you scared to Pay off Debt..
John: "Are you safe???"

Not only they lost their son but now the bill came for $230 k for few days of hospital stay.
canada puts people down like dogs
Yeah, it's so great that Canadians flee to America to get medical treatment in a timely manner.
Of course they do they run away from US and openly discuss how terrible is it in US.
This guy makes ZERO sense. The money is already spent before he HOPES to make $200K a year with both incomes. Living above your means makes even upper income households feel broke.
There's more to it... What's his mortgage payment, where else is the rest of his money going? Something doesn't add up.
Just goes to show you, lots of income does not mean you have your crap together.
Another reason to pay off debt so you don’t have to worry about a bunch of “What Ifs” If your water pump does go, if you have no debt, you can throw money at it without worrying about other bills!
Just goes to show: it doesn't matter how much you make a year, it's how you use it.
Does Dave think insurance covers all birthing costs? We had to pay $10,000 out of pocket even with insurance.
First he needs to get out of Massachusetts!
The guy is in sales, he moves to bfe Alabama he will make less than 100k.
Did he really say this is the reason too many people have too much month at the end of the money.
How do they have any debt at all when they earn $200,000 a year? They spent over a year paying $1,000 a month toward credit card debt and nothing toward medical debt? They make almost $17,000 a month and he hasn't paid off either of these debts? He either doesn't make $200k or he lacks common sense.
What the hell does he spend his money on? I honestly dont know how a household that can make 200k per year can be so stupid.
I wish Dave would’ve let John handle most of this call. There was obviously something emotional going on here. Yes he did say he didn’t want to not have cash on hand but John would’ve delved into the why
Why don’t you ask Josh Benson from tiktok on your show?
A lot of us are the opposite.
Doesn't see the forest for the trees. This isn't a financial problem it's psychological, he has trouble letting go.
Bro, we make the same money, I'm 32 and we have 120k in the bank. You're not doing the money stuff right.
In today's world cutting up your credit card is a bad idea. The least cards you have the system lowers your credit score.
I always told my kids to not assume people with money are smart.
He makes a lot. I don’t understand why he even called.
Id be embarrassed to call in...
We make the same amount as this guy and we're putting 3800/mo into 401/403 plus whatever amount per month to max 2 HSAs, and our checking account still grows. Lol this guy.
