Having lived in both, here is my summary - Thailand is safer and finding furnished apartments that are cheap is 10X easier in Thailand which makes cost of living cheaper in Thailand. Food is also 10X better in Thailand. Colombia has a better climate, closer to the US and similar time zone, and longer tourist visa. Overall, I would live in Thailand if it was closer but it is not so Colombia wins.

Colombia is being over-ran by mongers. At least the security issues keep it under control. No one wants to be around that level of mongering. ruins it!

*Colombia is the Most Bio-diverse Country in the World by Km², and 2nd. by extension, after Brazil.* Colombian landscaping is incomparable. Paradise on Earth.
*Colombia is called the Country of 1000 Rhythms, because it has 1,025.* Very rich musical culture.
Colombia has over 500 dishes in its gastronomy assets. It is not as popular, because Colombia has been growing just recently, since it had been hidden due to internal issues.
Colombia has the most beautiful women in the world. And the list goes on and on.

There are several factors that contribute to the low crime rate in Thailand, including:
    1. Strict law enforcement
    2. Cultural values that emphasize respect for authority and social harmony
    3. High levels of poverty reduction, reducing the incentive for criminal activity
    4. A strong economy, providing opportunities for citizens
    5. A robust education system, fostering a culture of respect and civic responsibility.

Excellent comparison review Carlton. One other plus for Thailand that you would have discovered with more time for analysis is the Real Estate difference. I used to criticize Thailand for not selling an entire property (land included) to foreigners, but now I understand why they don't, it would destroy their economy of scale. I'm currently looking into moving to Cartagena, but the costs and lack of a regulated real estate market presents problems. The influx of young gringos with extra money looking to make their millions has already produced a negative shift in housing costs/rents for those of us looking to be Ex-Pats. I saw a TH-cam post yesterday where a young Black gringo saw a property in Cartegena and he immediately began visualizing and explaining how he would repurpose it into $100/night rooms to place on Airbnb. There are already $100/night hotels! Just like Costa Rica and Panama, the cost of Cartagena and Medellin will become unaffordable for retirees. Central and South American economies of scale are destroyed by their proximity to the USA. In other words, ignorant people looking to get rich place American prices on the basic goods and services because they don't understand that the infrastructure is not in place in these countries to support these inflated costs by the local/indigenous populations, thus forcing an overdependence upon tourism. Countries like Thailand got it right when it comes to foreigners trying to buy their real estate, never let them buy the underlying land, and only lease to them for a set term. I prefer women with non-boy bodies too! Damn, always a dilemma!

Safety...its not even close comparison. Its a shame really. Colombia was just getting to be very popular tourist destination, similar to Thailand. But the safety is killing off the tourist industry now in colombia quickly. Colombia had some amazing potential. But most people have crossed it off the list now.

Colombian food is the best, the fresher. Americans are too mexicanized where everything has to taste of hot spices. Colombians don't like to overpower the real flavors.
Colombia has over 500 dishes in its gastronomy assets. It is not as popular, because Colombia has been growing just recently, since it had been hidden due to internal issues.
Each region of Colombia has its own dishes. So, all you have to do is to carry a bottle of Tabasco sauce and pour it over and there you have your spicy food.

Carlton thanks for the video. Your videos, and your experiences traveling are always good to watch. Curious if you’re in the same place in CTG that you were in before? The apt rentals here in Medellin have gone up, however living near the water is so much better. Can’t stand how Medellin has no fresh seafood, it’s only a one hour flight to the coast.

It's tough. It's funny. The safety you feel with your phone is how I USED to feel in Cartagena. But the tough thing is those decisions you mentioned. I reckon I will get tired of any country I try to expat in. I had my hard set on Colombia but between visa difficulty, long term renting difficulty, and rising crime... it's as if Colombia is TRYING to take itself off the table. I think I will more likely rotate between multiple countries but even that is not a perfect setup. Decisions decisions. If I ever get up the gumption I'd love to just bite the bullet and expat in Colombia.
