    Thanks for the video. I've had my '19 i3 for 2 1/2 years, and there were a couple of features I didn't know ( tilting out mirror, I do use my blinkers, trunk release, and motion IR disable). 👍👊✌🖖

    Very useful video! Learned about the infrared sensor (handy due to dogs setting off alarm) and window up/down function

    Pull the turn signal stalk as if to flash the high beams after the car is shut off (double press of power button) and the low beams will illuminate for 30 seconds or so. You can close windows/sunroof by pressing and holding the ridges on the door handle.

      Thanks for the feedback- the "30 sec light" feature is a good one!

    I am so thankful as I noticed my mirror was not tilting in reverse and had not clue what had happened.

    Long-press on the keyfob will also open/close the sunroof if you have one, and fold/unfold the mirrors. Very useful when you are walking up to a car that has been baking in the sun all day.

      Thanks for the adding the sunroof info... I don't have one so I didn't know about the feature!

    Great videos! It looks like you added a sew-on leather steering wheel cover. I’m thinking of doing the same. Would you recommend it? Also, do you have a link to the one you have?

    • @bmwi3diy782
      @bmwi3diy782  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, definitely. 1) Proactively protects the existing steering wheel from wear & tear, especially around the seams if someone wears rings, 2) The white steering wheel shows dirt / oil stains from hands easily, 3) In USA, no one has a TJA sensor in the wheel so no worry about blocking signal & 4) I think the black steering wheel looks better(?) I just got a low cost leather one from Amazon, www.amazon.com/dp/B01F6S8YL2/ref=twister_B01EA0QP5E?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 Small size fits.
      FYI put seat covers and steering wheel cover on a 20 yr old MB when it was new, I just took them off 2 yrs ago and the wheel/seats still look brand new! Thanks for watching.

    You can program the “square” button on the key fob to air conditioning/heating which is really handy on hot/cold days. It also pre heats the battery on cold days, making the battery last longer.

    • @bmwi3diy782
      @bmwi3diy782  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. WIth the older 3G network cellular connection, it allows for another way to precondition. I did make a video on how to activate the button on fob, in case anyone needs help on doing this (no square button in US versions). Thanks for the feedback!

      Actually, battery pre-heating doesn't occur with this - only cabin. To pre-heat/cool the battery you need to 1) have a departure time set, 2) the departure time must be at least 3 hours from when you set it up, and 3) the vehicle has to be plugged into an EVSE with (I think) a minimum output of 3kW.

    Great clip as I didn’t know some features. However, I could not pick up where is the emergency boot release button. Please clarify?

      Facing the rear latch from the inside, it is a small "knob' object on the face, just above some lettering about mid way up on the right. Pause at 0:34 to get a better view. Good luck!

    Def all doors open! Also you can disable the lock/unlocked chirp via idrive.

      Thanks for the comment! Disabling chirp in idrive ... maybe I should add into a future video.

    Any issues with exterior door handles falling off?

    • @bmwi3diy782
      @bmwi3diy782  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a loose passenger door handle when I bought the car, but I was able to tighten it up easily. I would be careful not to over tighten and strip the set screw though. That was over 4 years ago and it has not happened again. You can buy a cheap E4 torx socket set at Harbor Freight inexpensively. Here is an example : th-cam.com/video/khK592vCEsA/w-d-xo.html It it has fallen completely off, it may be a bit more complicated. Good Luck!

    Wait do you make the mirror tilt when indicating the right turn?!?

    • @bmwi3diy782
      @bmwi3diy782  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep- happens automatically, right mirror tilting out. check out the video at ~1:48 to see it. Thanks for the question, & don't forget to subscribe & check out the channel for more videos...

    Does anyone know of a way to force reset the iDrive unit? Sometimes the screen will blank during video playback, and the only fix is to wait until the unit shuts down on its own after the idle timeout.

    • @bmwi3diy782
      @bmwi3diy782  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've only found reference to holding the 'mute' button when in ready mode for 15-30 sec, but that does not work on my car either. It appears that the reset may require the mute & CD eject buttons pushed simultaneously (except the I3 doesn't have an EJECT button!). Maybe another button was mapped to the 'eject', but I haven't discovered it yet - if it exists. This is not a solution, but one suggestion is to review the video formatting in case there's a problem on the file side. I came across this reference: www.goingelectric.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=11874. I'll keep looking and post any useful information. Thanks for the question!

    • @Magendanz
      @Magendanz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bmwi3diy782 Thanks for the response! I found that same reference and went through a bunch of combinations, hoping to find a button they'd substituted for the EJECT button on the i3....but no luck. As for the video formatting, the problem files always have 16:9 aspect ratio with subtitles and the screen will blank on a single color, not necessarily always black. Switching to other videos doesn't solve the problem, and the only effective reset I've found is to wait for the unit to shut down on idle. At this point, I'm not holding my breath for a firmware update to fix the bug and would be happy with a workaround that doesn't involve leaving the vehicle.
